I'm responding an old post of yours. You may have found your answers by now but
I'm clearing my mailbox and just thought I would pass this along.
There is a book called "Ye Historie of ye Town of Greenwich, County of Fairfield and
State of Connecticut by, Spencer P. Mead. It might be of help to you. There are 5 Israel
Knapps and sever John Knapps. The book has genealogy sections on many of the early
families who settled Greenwich and military information on the men who fought. It's a
great reference book for Fairfield County and the Knapp's have a large genealogy
section. The book attempts to trace the first settlers family tree down.
The book was a great help to me with my research. I'm not sure if it's still
available but I think it's online, possibly on genweb or webroots.
The best way to predict your future is to create it!

Subject: [CTFAIRFI] Israel Knapp/John Knapp of Fairfield, 1700s
I'm trying to track down an ancestor of mine who may have ties to
Fairfield County. His name was Israel Knapp, and he lived in
Philipstown, in the Hudson Highlands region, in what is now Putnam
County New York. We think he was born about 1726/7, and we know he
died in 1789.
Edith M. Wicks' "Genealogical References in Stamford Ct. Land Records"
lists two deeds that may refer to him, both from 1772. They name an
Israel Knapp of Highlands, Dutchess County, N.Y., (Putnam hadn't yet
split off from Dutchess) with a deceased father named John Knapp, a
sister named Mary Webb and a brother named Samuel.
Does anyone know of a John Knapp from Stamford or elsewhere who had
sons named Israel and Samuel and a daughter named Mary? And can anyone
suggest avenues for further research? I am told the original deeds,
which I'd hoped might give a town of residence for Mary Webb, John
Knapp and Samuel Knapp, were destroyed in a flood.
