I'm trying to track down the Fairfield County tax lists from the 1798 Direct Tax. Is
anyone aware where these tax lists may be located?
Each town should have three lists: Form A, Particular List of Dwelling Houses valued at
over $100; Form B, Particular List of Lands, Lots, Buildings, and Wharves; and Form C,
Particular List of Slaves.
Each assessment district was supposed to have had three General Lists: Form D, General
List of Dwelling Houses valued at over $100; Form E, General List of Lands, Lots,
Buildings, and Wharves; and Form F, General List of Slaves.
Possibly the General Lists may be located among the papers of William Heron of Redding; he
was the Commissioner who represented Fairfield County on the US Board of Commissioners for
the Valuation of Land and Dwelling Houses, and the Enumeration of Slaves in CT. Does
anyone know where his papers can be found?
Any help would be appreciated!
