The post roads are still in existence today. If you have a copy of The
Handybook for Genealogists, there is a map of all the trails and post roads
in the back.

In 1794, one of my ancestors owned a residence on half an acre of property,
the location of which he described as:
"lying in the town of Southbury, half a mile from the Meeting House, north
on the post road from Litchfield to Derby and New Haven"
Can anyone hazard a guess where this might have been in relation to today's
roads and landmarks? I cannot find any map reference to a post road in the
vicinity of Southbury.
