With so much research done on the Benedict line, thought it would be interesting to share
what i have found on the Gilmore/ Howland lines. This is a much condensed list, but all
has been thoroughly verified by myself as well as others. This is a listing only of the
straight linear line for Ellen Gilmore Benedict Gallus.
John Howland b 1481 Manor at Newport Pond, Essex, England d aft 8Nov1546 Manor at Newport

Essex, England. Note: Baptism name was Agnet Howland.
Born during the early reign of Henry VIII, John Howland and Anne Greenway had eleven sons
and one daughter and all historians agree that all Howlands in England were descended from
this pair. The eldest son , Richard Howland, Doctor of Divinity and Archbishop of
Peterborough, was granted the Family Coat of Arms June 10, 1584. Historians say he
delivered the funeral sermon of Mary Queen of Scots.
John's will was proven April 1550. The name Howland is found only in Essex England and
was originally found only in Newport, Wicken, Essex, England. Both George and Humphrey
Howland died before 1653, as Humphrey's widow Annie was executrix of both their wills.
She died December 20, 1653. Humphrey was a draper of London. George lived at St. Donstons,

Henry and Alice had 3 sons that sailed to the new world. John was on the Mayflower 1620,
Henry J was on the tax list in 1633, then Arthur came over last. First mention of Arthur
was in 1640, described as a planter in Duxbury

Plymouth at least as early as 25 March 1633, when his name appears on the tax list, and he
was also on the original freeman list.

It took quite a few years and a lot of digging to find the maiden name of Rhoda Ann. Her
name cropped up, but without a maiden name, had no way to connect her line, and when i
did, was very surprised about the family heritage. Hope this helps others.
