Kathy,
Nathan Sherwood, b. 16 MAY 1720, Ridgefield, Fairfield Co, CT, was a son of
Daniel SHERWOOD (b. 1686, Fairfield, Fairfield Co, CT; d. 28 AUG 1749,
Ridgefield, CT; bur. Titicus Cem., Ridgefield, CT) and Ruth BRADLEY (b. 1690,
bap. 21 SEP 1701 - she and three siblings were baptized on the same day; d. 11
DEC 1748, Ridgefield, CT).
Daniel was a miller and carpenter. In 1712 he moved inland from Fairfield to
become Ridgefield's 29th and last original proprietor, and first miller. In 1716
he built Ridgefield's first mill. In January 1716 a Mill Covenant was contracted
between Daniel and the town of Ridgefield. The covenant continued in effect
until 1779 (his son, Daniel Jr., had taken over the covenant after his father's
death). The mill was built at the outlet of "Mamanasco Lake". Daniel's
will
refers to it as "Mamphrenasque Mill Pond" (Danbury Probate Records, Vol. 1, p.
34). After the mill was built he appropriated a home lot immediately north of
Benjamin BURT's.
Daniel was a son of Isaac SHERWOOD (b. c1645, d. after 1733) and Elizabeth
JACKSON (dau. of John JACKSON and Elizabeth SMITH).
Isaac was the youngest son of Thomas SHERWOOD the Immigrant (1585-1655) and his
second wife, Mary (unknown surname), about whom much has been written (See
Jacobus, Orcutt, etc.).
Ruth BRADLEY was a dau. of John BRADLEY (b. c1664, d. 1703; son of Francis
BRADLEY and Ruth BARLOW) and Hannah SHERWOOD (dau. of Thomas SHERWOOD and Ann
TURNEY; Some say this Thomas was a son of Thomas the Immigrant, others that he
was his grandson, son of Thomas Jr.). Ann TURNEY was a dau. of Benjamin TURNEY
(b. Salford, Bedfordshire, ENG) and Mary ODELL (b. 10 NOV 1605, Salford,
Bedfordshire, ENG).
Coincidentally, this is my Sherwood line. I am descended from Thomas, Isaac,
Daniel, Nathan, and on through Nathan's son Zadock.
My source, other than those already mentioned, is the William Lounsbury Sherwood
collection, in the New York Public Library, main branch, 5th Ave., Manhattan,
microfilm #1 of 4.
Kind Regards,
Geoff

Does anyone know who the parents of Nathan SHERWOOD, b. 16 May 1720
were?
Were his parents Daniel and Ruth (BRADLEY) SHERWOOD. If so, who were the
parents of Daniel and who were the parents of Ruth? I have both of them in my
database but think I have the wrong parents for them?
