In his application for a pension based on his service during the American Revolution my great(4)-grandfather Miles OAKLEY stated
He was born 7th April 1757
in Fairfield Fairfield County Connecticut. He has a
record of his age in his Bible transcribed from the fam
ily Bible of his Father his birth is also recorded by the then
Town Clerk of sd Fairfield
about the year 1801 he removed to Alfred Alleghany Coun
ty N. York. in 1806 he removed to Belpre, Wash
ington County Ohio from thence in 1811 to the Neigh
borhood where he now resides then in Athens County
Ohio but now Olive Township Meigs County, Ohio
Do the town records for Fairfield in 1757 still exist? Have they been microfilmed or have abstracts been published?
I believe that Miles Oakley married Eunice Bennett in Connecticut but have not found documentation of this marriage. (I've read the entry for Miles Oakley in History andGenealogy of the Families of Old Fairfield, vol. 2, but think there are mistakes. In particular Miles and Eunice Oakley are named in the abstracted records of the First Congregational Church of Marietta, Ohio, in 1811-1812.)
