Welcome Message
The Connecticut River Valley list is dedicated to the research and discussion of genealogy, as well as the history of the Connecticut River Valley area, encompassing the states of: Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont. The Connecticut River covers 410 miles from its source at the Canadian border to Long Island Sound. Migrations from the early settlements of eastern Massachusetts followed the Atlantic shoreline south from Massachusetts Bay Colony and Plymouth Colony, to the Connecticut River to Hartford, CT {1635}, New Haven, CT {1638}, Windsor, CT {1633}, Springfield, MA {1635}, Northampton, MA {1656}, Vernon (Fort Dummer) VT {1672}, Westminster, VT by 1750, Keene, NH {1730}, and all the way to northern Vermont and Coos County, New Hampshire. There were also migrations to and from Canada along the Connecticut River. Many of the early settlers of these areas had children and grandchildren who migrated from these areas to New York, Ohio, and beyond. We're delighted to have you join us. I think you will find the members quite knowledgeable and eager to help you in your search. If you have any special resources you can share with the group, please, when time allows, let us know. In the meantime, please feel free to post your interests along with some details to capture the attention of our members. If you ever have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to contact me privately, at CT-RIVER-VALLEY-admin@rootsweb.com
