I am hoping to find information on my great grandfather James COLEMAN's
family.
James was born about 1880 in Liverpool. He was a member of the Canadian
Over-Seas Expeditionary Force in World War I. His attestation paper says
that he was born January 7, 1880.
A while back, I came across a James COLEMAN, 8 months old, son of James
COLEMAN, living at 102 Tatlock St in Liverpool, England in the 1881 census.
However, I still do not know 100% that this is the same James COLEMAN.
Story goes that my great great grandfather James died when the children
were young and my great grandfather James eventually ended up in an
orphanage for boys. Him and 3 or 4 other teenage boys were taken from the
orphanage by possibly a member of the HARLING or EAVES family and were used
as gardeners/laborers on the property. That is where he met Fanny HARLING.
My grandfather married Fanny HARLING on December 1, 1906 in Thornton,
England. His father is listed as James COLEMAN on the marriage certificate.
Fanny was the daughter of John HARLING and Annie EAVES. James and Fanny's
children, before leaving England for Philadelphia, PA in 1910, were Anna
Mary married Samuel FEE, John/Jack Aloysius married Margaret CHRISTALDI
(these were my grandparents). The other children were all born in
Philadelphia...Margaret William married William O'ROURKE, Charles Francis
married Edna HEDWIG ?, Katherine Mary married Walter MARKOWSKI, Patrick
James married Susan D. MURRAY and Francis James married Jean LASKEY.
The SSDI shows that my grandfather's birth date was January 17, 1881 and he
died June 1973.
I'd love to hear from anyone with even a possible connection or information
to share!
Ella
