Found something very interesting when I
was doing a Google search on my EWING
Family.
Younger, Robert Ewing
B: 1853 MO
D: I can not recall date died of TB
brother Coleman "Cole" Younger
Tried locating information on Rootsweb to
see if I could find family names of EWING
and COLEMAN connected to this bunch,
So far I have located nothing as to why they named their children
Surnames either that I have (my surname is Coleman) but I have a line of
EWING's
connected to my mothers' family as my
Lorena Ewing married Wm P Graham.
Lorena daughter of my Robert and Elizabeth (Milton) Ewing.
Hi all - James Coleman, born in Ohio in 1821 and married Frances Murray in
Grandview, Iowa in 1845 is my gggrandfather. James and Fannie and oldest
daughter and her father, Barney Murray, came West on the Oregon Trail in
1846 and settled first in Muddy Valley. Barney died and James and Fanny and
family moved to a farm in St. Paul, Marion County, Oregon in the Willamette
Valley. He is buried in St. Paul. Helen Hitchcock

One of the Cole Youngers of course was Jesse James's partner in crime during
and after the Civil War. James was from Clay County, MO, just north of
Kansas City. On I-35 there's a sign for Jesse James's birthplace at
Kearney, MO. I believe Cole Younger was from somewhere close by.
See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cole_Younger.
Interesting you mention the Daltons of Montgomery Co., KS. That was another
notorious post-Civil War gang. They had also come from Clay Co., MO and
moved to Coffeyville, KS, which is in Montgomery Co. See
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dalton_gang.
(I'm from Kansas and have been learning a lot about its early history ever
since my wife and I bought a 2nd home in Lawrence. My Colemans, however,
were in Iowa.)
