Gregg,
I can't help with your basic question but can provide some insight.
My line is the DA-8 shown on the chart. My birth name is Coleman and the
line from me thru Daniel, born 1768, is documented through official records
between Pittsylvania County, VA and Washington County, VA. Before Daniel,
the family was very prominent and their history is well documented so I am
very confident the tree is accurate.
I hope you get someone who can answer your question and that this data is
helpful.

Subject: [COLEMAN] Mobjack line DNA analysis
Hi Folks,
{New subscriber here. I sent this previously, and I guess it didn't get
through because I hadn't completed the subscription process. Sorry for any
duplication. GGB}
I believe I descend from the Colemans of Mobjack Bay. In looking at the DNA
page for participants who claim this line, it is immediately obvious that
there is too much genetic variability to be explained by common descent from
the same man surnamed Coleman within the last several thousand years. Some
of the men are I1a and some R1b, with one G2a. And the results cannot be
easily explained by a single error of claimed descent. By my count, there is
a minimum of three errors, and they are perhaps ALL in error. But which are
errors, and which line (if any) represents bona fide descent of the eldest
Robert Coleman shown?
My descent is closest to that of Robert (1), Daniel (2), Daniel (3), and
thus sample DA-8 and haplo R1b. Sample 164880 (haplo G2a) is the lone one of
its type, and thus likely an error, unless ALL the other samples are in
error. That leaves samples from (Robert's) sons Robert, Daniel, and John as
possible "true" lines. The line of John Coleman is polyphyletic, and thus
contains at least one error.
The simple solution is that SMGF-4 and the line of Daniel are in error, and
that the true haplo is I1a. Are there other descendants of Daniel who have
tested?
Has anyone else done a more careful analysis of this Mobjack DNA to
determine where the error(s) likely are? Which lines have the strongest
evidence to support descent from eldest Robert? Which the weakest?
I'd like to see another DNA sample from Daniel II Coleman's son Thomas, or
otherwise Grizzell.
I base what I have said on this file (I have not investigated any of the
claims of descent personally):
