Thanks for your reply, but due to dates on his will and dates on bible, I
don't think that works out. M.E.

Hi M. E.,
I cannot say this is correct, but if you are looking for your Cluverious Coleman's ancestry, I have seen others who have in their family tree, a Joseph Coleman born circa 1715 who married Grace Cluverious.? Joseph is son of Thomas Coleman who is son of Robert Coleman who married Mary Clayton.? Hope this will prove helpful.

Yes, I've heard that Polly could be Mary, but the dates don't fit. Plus.
Cluverious refers to his wife as Massy or Marcey in his will and those dates
and names also fit.. Should tell you that Cluverious and Massey or Marsey
had a daughter Ann who married Abraham Green in 1799 in Mecklenburg Va. She
was my grgrgrgrandmother.M E

I've been reading all these Coleman request. I know that my ancestor was Cluverious Coleman of Mecklenburg Va. I have copy of his will. All names and dates are correct. However, I sent to DAR for the bible record of Cluverious Coleman. It's very difficult to read, but dates and names of children all seem to fit as well as I can read it. Here's the puzzle. In his will he mentions his wife Marcey or Massy Coleman. The DAR bible record at the top of the page reads very clearly, Children of Cluverious and Polly Cleaver Coleman. There again names and dates seem to fit. All are in the 1700's. Cluverious died 1799 in Va. Does anyone have any idea who Polly Cleaver was? M.E. jsorensen4(a)cfl.rr.com
Could that first name be Mary? Polly was a nickname for Mary.

Hello List,
Does anyone have any information they will share with me on William Coleman
and Millie Sasser in early Tattnall Co., Georgia? He could be the father of
my great-great-grandfather, William Coleman born 1802 Tennessee died after
1880 Red River Parish, Louisiana. Millie Sasser could be my William's
step-mother.
Thank you,

So when I switch to Flat Creek TN and met on line several Cousins that were in search of the same family of J Colemans. I read the Gowen Papers and confirm I was in the right area but since my family used the same names every generation it is still easy to get lost. I know Joshua C. Does anyone have info on any Colemans in Tattnall Co., Georgia, Butler Co.,
Alabama or Clarke Co., Mississippi they will share with me? For years, I
have tried to tie my William Coleman born 1802 Tennessee and have been unable to
do so. It is possible his line was from South Carolina to Tennessee to
Georgia. William and Sarah Ogden Coleman settled in Bienville Parish, Louisiana
by census time in 1850, where their name was spelled Coalman.
Thank you,
Shirley

Sue,
Are you on ancestry? I swear that while researching I ran across a Coleman
wedding at sea. I found it in the Marriage Index. It wasn't my subject who
I was searching for so just left it. I ran into it several times though.
I would search there.

I have enjoyed reading the current conversation regarding the VA/NC/SC/TN/TX
Coleman Family and cannot help but think that my Coleman Family information
must be out there somewhere. I am descended from Samuel Coleman (b.1800) in
Mercer Creek, PA, moved to Knox County, IL in 1856 where he died in 1875.
He was married to Sarah Albin (b.1804) possibly at sea in route from Ireland
to America. Sarah's parents were John and ? Albin. Does anyone have any
information regarding this Coleman family? I am especially interested in
Samuel's ancestors.
Thank you,

I think that my John Coleman was the son of Joseph Coleman Sr., and Elizabeth
and brother to Nathaniel, Sr.
John was a blacksmith in Fayette Co. and once shoed the horse of George
Washington. He put the shoes on backwards so the British couldn't follow him.
Nathaniel and Abigail Coleman's children are:

I don't have very much on Elijah either but I do remember reading that he had
built a fort around his home. I will try and find that in my notes and

Have Elijah's deed extract upon his death and an orphans court record plus a couple of early census, not much else. Seeking any other sources and knowledge which would be greatly appreciated.

Hello cousins I am putting our garden of family trees on cds. I have a name from England and Wales 3 times in the USA they family used Coleman but in Great Britain they used Coultman, any of you have this name? Also located an Obediah Preston Coleman doesn't match the time line but could be a clue. This is a Coleman line from VA-TN-TX I am still needing help with the family verbal history that this family came from Ireland and Wales. My line is from Flat Creek Bedford CO TN to TX in 1873. Family was in TN by 1809. ~~~~AM~~~~
I would like to correspond with descendants of Andrew Womack Coleman
married Mary; Mary's surname probably Ringgold. This is a collection of
a data from various cousins. All has not been confirmed. Currently
working on the family of Theodore Coleman. Would love to obtain family

My great-great grandfather was William Coleman born 1802 Tennessee. He
married 1. Sarah Ogden born 1806 Tattnall Co., Georgia. The family lived
in
Butler Co., Alabama, Clarke Co., Mississippi and settled in Bienville
Parish,
Louisiana. After Sarah's death, he remarried. William died after the 1880
census and is buried in Hickory Grove Cemetery in Red River Parish,
Louisiana.
William's father could have been Robert Coleman of Tattnall Co., Georgia.
Any connections?
Thank you,
Shirley
