Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb

I think Linda means haplogroup.
The haplogroup identifies the person's major population group and provides
information about the ancient origin of the male line.

My Mother was a Colmon. My brother had his DNA done for the Stateler line.
Does that matter?

Marva,
Popular Family Tree DNA tests only produce information going back along the
all-male line or, for mitochondrial testing, the all-female line. No
information about your mother's Coleman line would be produced by testing a
male child of hers. No information about your mother's father would be
produced by the mitochondrial testing of you or your mother.

Joan Coleman,
I assume you are relating to Essex County, Virginia not Essex County, New York, thought I would check with you anyway.
Researching information on my gg grandfather Oliver Coleman born abt. 1825 in New York. Earliest known information on Oliver is 1850 living in Elbridge, New York.
Thank You,
Richard Mitchell

Linda, I have to send for my brothers DNA. We did it for the Stateler line
and the lady who took care of it was and is so secretive that we got no
information. I can send to the company who did the DNA and get the papers. I
don't know how long that will take but I will send for it this week.

I descend from Coleman's from Germany, at the time Prussia, they came from
Britten, Rheinland, Phalz. I know I am forgetting something in the name of
the place but somehow when they came to America the K in Kollman and other
ways of spelling was changed to a C. I don't know if it was intentional or
perhaps accidental by the way other Americans spelled it. My Coleman's
settled in Clermont Co. Ohio so if any descend from that Coleman family,
they are from Germany. I do have info on that family if any one is
interested. They lived in Cincinnati first.Roberta in Cincinnati."
Without a doubt, many US Colemans are of the Kollman, Kohlmann, etc.
families of Germany.
In the case of my wife's Coleman ancestors who are found in Laurens Co., SC
from 1830 on, the place of birth is shown as Belfast, Northern Ireland. Her
earliest documented ancestor was Robert Coleman born abt. 1795 in NI. He
married Sarah Moore. He applied for naturalization 10 Apr 1815 and was
admitted as a citizen on 4 Jun 1818.. So I presume he was one of the many
Ulster Scots who are commonly referred to as Scotch-Irish in this country.
Have any of your Coleman males done a Y-chromosome test? I'm curious - my
remote Smiths may have come from the Rhineland Pfalz area and they test
haplotype I1a.

Looking for Henry and Elizabeth (Unk
maiden) Coleman in PA in 1745
Philadelphia, spouse born 1750 PA
possibly also of Philadelphia.
He was said to be a "Hatter" or someone
who makes hats.
Son Philip Coleman born 1771
Montgomery Co PA married Ann Kelly/Kelley 1794-5.
Unknown anything further on my Colemans'.
Does anyone descend from this Coleman branch? Who were Henrys' people?
Who was Elizabeth? Who were her
people? Did Henry & Elizabeth have any
other children?
I am interested in the Coleman DNA project since my brother has participated
in the DNA project for our surname and the results have linked us with
unexpected families and at the same time refuted our speculation about our
links with other families.
Our Coleman's can be traced to Samuel Coleman born 1800 in PA (Mercer
County). He and his wife, Sarah Albin, moved to Knox County, IL in the
early 1850s and they lived out their lives.
To date, I have not identified any of Samuel's ancestors or siblings. Is it
possible that they are descended from one of the families that have been
identified in the DNA project? I would appreciate any help regarding this
family.
