Rev. Benjamin P. Coleman, was a one of the kind. While researching Henry, Carroll, & Trimble Co., Ky., I came up with a story & picture of Rev. Ben's grave, and his wife, Sarah. The Corn Creek Baptist Church, minutes, doesn't, or cut Rev. Ben from it's history, well I came on to one document at the clerks office, showing differently. I will share these pictures with you for free, no charge!

So far my search has taken me all over the world.
So in my travels I will keep an eye out for you.
If any thing shows up I let you know.
I am currently looking into some military stuff
that is heading into Africa.
You never know what might show up.

Thanks Jim, I'd sure appreciate it. Her parent's are my biggest brick wall
and it's in my main line. If you do find yourself heading into SA, check out
the archive for the Rootsweb eastern cape mailing list - I saw a few Coleman
messages there last night that may help you.
Kindest regards
Shelly

Some of the variations I have come across in Wales are:
coolman, colman, coalman, coallman, coleman
I hope this helps a bit.

I kive in Wales.
Coleman or Colman isn't a common name here at all.
I think alot of the spellings where put in place in the past when people
couldn't spell very well and registrars and census enumerators couldn't
understand Irish accents either.

PS The Irish varient is different again

I am researching Irish Colemans.
My 2X Great Grandfather James Coleman was born c 1828.
He moved to Manchester UK where he was a shoemaker. He married Catherine
O'Brien.
They lived in Ancoats for over 50 years, He died in 1907 and is buried in
Ancoats. This side of the family then moved to Wales.
My Mother was told that they came from Dublin but I'm not sure. I had Mayo
in mind based on somethings I found.
Dublin's a fantastic city but research is hard.
I go over to Ireland alot as it's so near to the ferry where I live.
I might go again to June/July.
Irelands a great place but being spoilt alot now by modern development of
'kit' type houses

Pat,
My line spells it COLEMAN but I have seen it spelled COALMAN as well as with
a K.
Not sure where my line originated, but I can trace them back to Cluvrius
Coleman who fought in the Rev. War. He was from Virginia.

Anybody have these folks, originally from New York?
According to LDS, my Coleman ancestors from NY were Nathaniel Coleman (m. Martha Howell), Merrit Coleman d.1875 (m. Mary Smith), William Harvey Coleman 1813-1871 (m. Lucretia Merritt, 1837 in Battle Creek, MI), and my great-grandfather Harrison Horton Coleman, b. 1842 (m. Charlotte Rebecca Flowers, 1872, in Winona, MS).

Our emigrant, Robert Coleman of Laurens Co., SC, married Sarah "Sally"
Moore.
In the 1850 census he is shown as born in Ireland, and the name is spelled
COALMAN.
It took several attempts to find him with the pre-ancestry.com indexes.
Next generation, Samuel Coleman, moved to TX, and married Sarah Jane Boyd.

Hello Listers,
The question of how to spell a particular name comes up on most Mailing
List, no matter what name it is.
It all seems to hinge on how people pronounce the name and how the person
filling in the registers and certificates worked out how to spell the name.
Many people didn't know how to read or write and had to depend on others to
fill in details. I don't think that there is an Irish way to spell the name
Coleman as I have seen it spelled, Coleman, Colman and Coalman in the Irish
records. My family always had it Coleman and my grandfather's family came from
Ireland. Pat
Sonny, you and I spoke by phone a couple of years ago. My Coleman family
was in Georgia, and apparently go there from Virginia. Have you ever
figured out from where your Coleman family came to Kentucky?

Hello John,
I'm sure you will enjoy going to Ireland. I have had a holiday for the last
two years there but I have only to travel from England. I am planning to go
to Dublin at the end of July so its not likely I would pass you in the
street. The thing about the Irish records is that they don't go back very far.
So if you are after anything earlier than 1800 then its not available. Have a
good time in Dublin everyone says its a good city to visit. Pat
Hello Irish Coleman's
I married an Irish Coleman whose family was from Cork-where I don't know but
my family is originally from Dundalk and my aunt told me that my great great
uncle(Goslin(g)) married into the Coleman family of Dundalk. I have the
family tree from this side and I know that there are Coleman's from this family
buried in the local Dundalk Catholic graveyard. Dundalk records go back earlier
than other places in Ireland. My aunt got back to around 1800 on one side
and 1850 on the other. Good Luck.
