Ruth,
There was actually two John J. Coleman's both born about 1814. My John J.
Coleman was the son of Benjamin Coleman and was born in Mecklenburg County, VA.
He eventually wound up in Fayette County, VA, now WV and married Isabella
Carnefix in 1849. He was the great grandson of Cluverius Coleman, also of
Mecklenburg County. I am the second great granddaughter of John J. and Isabella.
Anita McClung

I didn't get the card. I could not pull it up. I am the g grandson of
JOHN J. COLEMAN born 1814 in nelson county Virginia. He married LAURANNIE
MCDONALD born 1820 in Tenn. They had the following children; WILLIAM D. b 1840,
JESSE b, 1842, MARGARET b. 1846, MARTHA b. 1850, JOHN C. b. 11853, these were
all born in Tenn. and the last child was born in Sugar Grove, Butler county,
Ky. in 1857. He was my grandfather. I have hit a brick wall. Can you help
me with this ? I need to know who JOHJN J. COLEMAN'S parents were. Thanks

I am looking for anyone connected to Marshall L. Coleman. He was born December of 1894 in Flushing, Queens to William J. Coleman and Martha Marshall. He was the only male child in the family and had one sister Mildred Coleman Barto (wife of Edward)
He worked at one time for the Standard Oil Co. and traveled abroad a number of times in relation to his employment. Somehow during WWII he was on Manila on the Philippine Island and became one of the many civilians captured there when the Japanese took over the Islands. Soon after the massacre of Manila and the eventual liberation of Manila by the American forces he is listed in the NY Times (Mar. 1945) as being freed.
I am trying to find out a little more about his life. In the estate papers for his father William Coleman in 1832 are listed three Coleman grandchildren, which suggests to me that Marshall might have been married. The grandchildren were William, Barbara and Patricia. These children were probably very small at the time that they were included in their grandfathers estate papers and could be still living.
If anyone has info. on this person I would love to hear from you. I have done extensive research on the mother's side of the family and I am willing to share.
Thanks,
Joan

Dear Ruth,
I saved your email from back in October thinking I would look up some info
and ask you a question.
First let me tell you about my Coleman line. My GG Grandfather was John
Coleman born in Edgefield Sc
in 1815 and he married Amanda Eleanor Keenan. I have never been able to
determine who his Father was.
I have old family letters that state his Dad's name was Francis and there
was a Francis on the 1790 Census in SC. The name Francis on you email got my
attention, although it is not in the right time frame.
If you can connect any of my info, I would appreciate anything you can tell
me.
