My COLEMAN'S came from Nelson County Virginia. My g grandfather JOHN J.
COLEMAN was born 1813 or 1814 ( I have info for both years,but I think that 1814
is likely correct) Nelson county, Va. I have no info on Isabella
Coleman, but I think my g g grandfather may have been Hawes COLEMAN from Nelson county
VA., though I have no proof of this. Any info you may have about Hawes
Coleman would help me greatly. Hays Coleman _Wildcatter3(a)aol.com_

Ms. Wireman,
I have records on my colemans back to 1815. John Coleman born 1815
Edgefield, SC.
I have stories from relatives that his Father was named Francis and another
one that is Father's name was John.
The story goes that some Colemans moved from Va to Ky. Then our Ancestor
moved from Ky to SC.
Thus my line starts that we have real records on. I have never been able to
get back to John's Parents.
There is a Francis Coleman on the Census in 1790 SC. However cannot connect
to my John Coleman.

To anyone who may be interested,
I have a book that I bought several years ago in ky called (Abraham Coleman & their neighbor), . According to this book there were 4 boys that lived in eastern Kentucky and southwest Virginia. also live in rowan county, North Carolina when the 1790 census Federal census was taken. some of the later moved to Grayson county Virginia. The parents of Peter Coleman are unknown to us, but it is probably that he is descended from the Virginia Colemans. It is thought that the four Coleman brothers came to Virginia between 1640 and 1650. They were William, Thomas, Nicholas and Robert. They were said to have come from Essex county in southern England. ( I am quoting from the book) As far back as I can trace for my ancestor in the Coleman brothers are my Great great great grandfather was Peter Coleman, no birth date but he was from Tazewell Virginia, he had a son named Daniel my great great grandfather, Daniel setteled on Peter Creek Ky and stayed there the rest of his life with his wife Sarah.
Daniels son Moses was my great grandfather 1st married Louisa May dau of James and Nancy May. Louisa died Feb 16, 1853. Moses Louise had a son named Daniel. Moses then married Rachel Dotson my great grandmother. Moses and Rachel had my grandfather William Green Coleman who married Rosie Belle Dotson
and had my mother Gladys Marie Coleman born 1920, married Willard Ramey born 1916. then they had me.
Wilma Jean (Ramey) Wireman. I know this may not be of any help to you but I thought I would through this in.

Hello Ms. Wireman;
I understand that you have a Coleman ancestor from the Va. area. Would you know from which county they may have migrated from?
My line of Coleman's came from Halifax Co.,Va. to Knox Co., Tn. in the early 1800's. I have been attempting to connect them to other lines of Coleman's.
Any info. appreciated.
Regards, Jack L. Coleman
No, one of Joseph's children was named Brady. I don't know where the name

Handwritten lower-case R may look like an S. So the name you saw may
indeed be "Marry". Since Polly is a common nickname for Mary, this
might make sense.
Note that although Polly was a common nickname for Mary, it's quite
possible that "Polly" could be a given name or could be a nickname
for "Paula" or "Pollyanna".

Elsi
