Hello,
Re: 1600's Old Rappahannock Co., VA families of WATSON, KELLY, NORTON,
SULLIVAN/S(W)I/ELLIVAN(T,) COLEMAN, and MASCALL/MASKILL
Looking for any information on these aforementioned families in 1600's Old
Rappahannock County, Virginia or any connecting counties beginning with the
WATSON family that had a daughter named Sarah WATSON who married John KELLY/aka
O'KELL(E)Y, parents of Matthew KELLY who married Penelope "Nelly" NORTON. I
descend from their son (Captain) John KELLY who married Amy DONIPHAN, (d/o
(Captain) Alexander DONIPHAN, Sr. and his 1st wife, Amiee PARTRIDGE. (These
families were, also, in Lancaster, Northumberland/ Westmoreland, and other VA
counties.)
I am also looking for any information on the William O'KELLY/aka O'KELL(E)Y
and
who may have been born abt. 1600 in England or Ireland and immigrated in the
early 1600s to Virginia possibly into Old Rappahannock County. This William
O'KELLY was the father of the aforementioned John KELLY, Sr. who married
Sarah WATSON. No information on the names of Sarah WATSON's parents nor her
siblings. All I have regarding information for John KELLY and Sarah WATSON is
their names and that they were the parents of the aforementioned Matthew
KELLY, Sr. who married Penelope "Nelly" NORTON, daughter of Patrick NORTON and his
wife, Margaret, whom I believe was named Margaret SWILLIVANT/SWELLIVANT/ aka
OSHEELIVAN/SILIVANT/SULLIVAN(T,) whom I have pieced information together for
with the help of others researching the same and believe was the daughter
of Cornelius SWILLIVANT/etc., immigrant, and his wife, ? COLEMAN, sister of
Margaret COLEMAN who married Daniel DISKIN(S.)
My understanding is that Margaret COLEMAN, whom appears to have married
Cornelius SWILLIVANT/etc., and her sister, Mary?/? COLEMAN, who married Daniel
DISKINS, were the daughters of Susan MASCELL, (aka MASCALL and MASKILL,) and
Robert COLEMAN, born before 1620 in England. He died_ 3_
(http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~rbarry4145/colc01.htm#491C3) in 1678 in Westmoreland
County,Virginia. Richard bought land in 1651 in Old Rappahannock County,
Virginia. Robert COLEMAN also appears to have married a woman named Margaret ?.
My descent from this family group continues with marrying into the ROBINSON
- PAYNE - JENNINGS and, possibly, WILLOUGHBY families that were, also, in
1600's Virginia in the counties of Old Rappahannock County,
Northumberland/Westmoreland County, and the Tidewater area that became Norfolk County.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Bellinda Myrick-Barnett

Permelia Age 64
Lucy, single, age 30
Eliza, single, age 26
Nancy single, age 23

Hello to the DICKENS, GRAVES, HERRINGTON, HARRINGTON, MYRICK, LOTT, STUCKEY,
GRANTHAM, BARLOW, MARKEL, and MIDDLETON lists,
(and, also, sending this to the MARKEL list in case there is validity to the
marriage of David DICKENS and Nancy MARKEL as a 2nd wife or as a 1st wife,
as shown below, or to eliminate,)
(Sending to the LOTT and MIDDLETON and McRANEY and BARLOW lists though they
are not primaries, so far, in this particular group but there is a
possibility of lineage in a GRAVES marriage shown shortly below as well as there is
MYRICK descent from the DICKENS, GRAVES, and HERRINGTON families shown and the
McRANEY/McCRANEY family married into these groups with multiple marriages
between all of these so there may be more here to be uncovered.
I am interested in finding out if anyone else is researching the following
David DICKENS whom I believe married Catherine GRAVES, (seen as Catherine
DICKINS in the 1850 Covington County, MS Census.)
David DICKENS, born: 1784 in Warren County, Georgia, whom appears to have
died before 1840 probably in Covington County, Mississippi and, perhaps, in
the area of Williamsburg where he is found in the 1820 Covington County,
Mississippi Census along with a John DICKENS and David DICKENS lived in the
Williamsburg area where Enoch HERRINGTON was a member of the Masonic Lodge in
Williamsburg, Covington County, Mississippi from 1843 to 1844 before moving to
Attala County, Mississippi.
In some information online, this David DICKENS is seen as married to Nancy
MARKEL who might possibly have been a 2nd wife but this may be incorrect, we
don't know yet, which Curtis DICKENS and I have been separately researching up
until now and we have just started communicating with each other and trying
to uncover more information. It appears that this is probably the same David
DICKENS as the one who married Catherine GRAVES, as mentioned further below,
that were the parents of Rebecca Jane "Jane" DICKENS who married Isham/Isom
Daniel HERRINGTON, s/o Harriet STUCKEY and Enoch HERRINGTON, brother of
William HERRINGTON, Jr. who married Cynthia "Sina" GRANTHAM, with William, Jr. and
Enoch, being sons of William HERRINGTON, Sr., born: abt. 1755 in Craven
County, North Carolina.
Immediately below is a list of the children of David DICKENS and, possibly,
this Nancy MARKEL and/or maybe Catherine GRAVES whom is shown listed further
below with different children for Catherine GRAVES and David DICKENS. We're
trying to sort it all out.
Maybe there are bits and pieces of information floating around in the
different family groups that we can put together.
In previous information, this David DICKENS and Nancy MARKEL, (again not
sure if she was a 2nd wife or if she is incorrect altogether,) are shown as
having children per information from Curtis DICKENS:

I have, for about 15 years, been trying to ascertain precisely which David
DICKENS it was that married Catherine GRAVES, born: abt. 1792 in Georgia,
probably in Lincoln County, who was the daughter of Nancy ?/LOTT?/MIDDLETON? and
husband, William W. GRAVES.
Catherine DICKINS, (aka GRAVES,) and her father, William W. GRAVES, were
both found in the 1850 Covington County, Mississippi Census just a couple of
lines from Jane DICKINS, (aka Rebecca Jane "Jane" DICKENS,) and all of them just
a couple of lines from Isham/Isom Daniel HERRINGTON, (aka HARRINGTON,) at age
19 years old living in the home of a relative, John McRANEY, (aka McCRANEY,)
whose family also married into the GRAVES and DICKENS families as did the
HERRINGTON family.
Isham/Isom Daniel HERRINGTON married Rebecca Jane "Jane" DICKENS as his 1st
wife and then later on married 2nd wife, Mrs. Sarah ?/COLEMAN? COLEMAN.
Isham/Isom Daniel HERRINGTON was the son of Harriet STUCKEY and husband, Enoch
HERRINGTON, son of William HERRINGTON, Sr.. Also Enoch was the brother of
William HERRINGTON, Jr. who married Cynthia "Sina" GRANTHAM. I descend from both
brothers, Enoch and William, Jr.. Enoch HERRINGTON was the father of the
aforementioned Isham/Isom Daniel HERRINGTON and this Enoch HERRINGTON is also
found in Williamsburg, Covington County, Mississippi in 1843 and 1844 as a
member of the Masons there before moving to Attala County, Mississippi in 1844.
Immediately below in GRAVES information, it shows the Catherine GRAVES and
husband, David DICKENS, as well as Catherine's twin, John GRAVES, being married
to Marian F. DICKENS, (who may have been named Miriam,) as well as John and
Catherine's brother, Middleton GRAVES marriage to Matilda HERRINGTON and then
2 COOK marriages for 2 other brothers. I think that this Marian/Miriam F.
DICKENS is probably closely related to this David DICKENS but still can't find
out how as well as both of them being related to/descended from some of the
DICKENS that are mentioned repeatedly in the GRAVES information at the GRAVES
ORGANIZATION website connected to the families in Culpeper/Spotsylvania
Counties, Virginia including the John GRAVES, (RS,) and Mary COPELAND who were
the parents of the aforementioned William W. GRAVES. In addition, I have LOTT
lineage that I think may connect with this COPELAND and possible LOTT
lineage for the Nancy ?/LOTT?/MIDDLETON? who married William W. GRAVES as they
named 2 of their sons, Lott GRAVES and Middleton GRAVES. The LOTTs married into
many of the families mentioned above as did the BARLOW, AINSWORTH, and other
connecting families.
From the GRAVES ORGANIZATION website:

William W. Graves (9) was born about 1769 in GA, and died in Covington Co.,
GA. He married Nancy ‑‑‑‑‑‑. She was born about 1775 in VA, and died

Hiram GRAVES, born: abt. 1783, who married a Celia Ann "Seley" DICKENS,
born: abt. 1784 in NC or GA, daughter of Jack Walker DICKENS.
The aforementioned Catherine GRAVES and David DICKENS are believed to have
been the parents of the following: (in its entirety this is from the GRAVES
ORGANIZATION list, also.)
<<
Catherine Graves (24) was born about 1792 in GA. She married David Dickens
(or Dickins). He was born 1780-1790 and died 1830-1840. All their
children were born in MS, probably Copiah Co. They were in the 1830 census for
Copiah Co., MS, page 130. They were in the 1840 and 1850 censuses for Covington
Co., MS, with Catherine listed as head of household, since David apparently
died before 1840. In 1850, daughter Jane was living next door to Catherine
Dickens with the family headed by Sarah Wilson, and also next door to her uncle
Humphrey Graves. (R‑31)
