Hello!
I can go back as far as my great-great-grandfather, William Coleman. He was
born ca 1802 in Tennessee and married 1. Sarah Ogden, daughter of Daniel
Ogden and Mary Sapp, in Tattnall Co., Georgia.
The family moved into Alabama and lived there for several years, then into
Mississippi for a few years. Their youngest, great-grandmother, Eugenia
Coleman (md Jeremiah Vail, Jr.) was born there in 1849.
In 1850, they were in Bienville Parish, Louisiana for the census. Their
name was misspelled Coalman. Sarah died after several years and William md 2.
Emoline Cox, a widow with a child. They had a son; listed in 1870 Red River
Parish, LA.
I have listed my family on _www.findagrave.com_ (http://www.findagrave.com) .

I am looking for an unknown first name male Coleman who was married to
Hannah Ross b. 8 June 1771 in SC, daughter of Reuben Ross and Priscilla Green.
Priscilla Green was the daughter of Isaac Green and unknown. Isaac died in St.
Mark's Parish, Craven Co, SC about May 1772. Issac's children: Robert,
George, John, Moses, Sarah Ann (married a Norman), Alse (married a Lansdale), and
my Priscilla who married Reuben Ross about 1760/1761.
Children of Reuben Ross and Priscilla Green were Moses, Elizabeth (married
Jesse Hilton), Benjamin (married Saphira Frizzell), Hannah (m. 1st unknown
Coleman, 2nd Nathaniel Wickham Marion), Solomon A., Priscilla, and Stephen (m.
1st Sarah Baxter, 2nd widow Elizabeth Anderson)
This unknown Coleman husband of Hannah Ross' was deceased before 1812 when
Hannah married Nathaniel Wickham Marion** and they lived in Abbeville Co,SC.
Her brother Stephen Ross moved to Edgefield/Abbeville area about 1820 and
died about Dec 1842 -a
(Thomas) T. L. Coleman was one of the administrators of his estate:
ROSS, Stephen and Elizabeth---Box 133, Pack 3568:
Est. of Stephen Ross admnr. Jan. 1, 1849 by John R. Tarrant, R. M. White, T.
L. Coleman bound to David Lesly Ord. Abbeville Dist. sum $4,000.00 Est. of
Elizabeth Ross admnr. same time in sum $1,500.00. Sett. made Jan. 7, 1851.
Present, John R. Tarrant admnr. Moses G. Ross aged 20 yrs. 9 mo. and Henry M.
Quattlebum who married Jane a distributee, Isabella Ann a minor.
I believe it likely that Hannah Ross probably had children by her first
marriage,
but I can't yet prove it. Was Thomas L. Coleman related to Stephen Ross? a
nephew? I don't know but sure would like to.
I am also interested in a Reuben Ross Coleman b. abt 1811 in Fairfield Co,
SC and apparently died sometime after 1880 in same...he married a Lucy Harris
who was born abt 1840 in Burke Co, NC where another of my Ross line lived
and died- Benjamin Ross b. 4-10-1766 in SC (also a son of Reuben Ross and
Priscilla Green) .....is that just a bunch of coincidence? This Reuben Ross
Coleman was a son of John Coleman and Mary Rainey. John apparently a son of
William Coleman and Nancy Butler. William apparently a brother to Robert R.Coleman
(Halifax Co,NC to SC) - sons of a Francis Coleman and unknown.
Reuben Ross Coleman married Lucy Harris in Jan 1860 in Caldwell Co, NC (her
family was still living in Burke Co, NC then). In the 1860 census of Lenoir,
Caldwell Co, NC is a R.P. (that P could be an A) Coleman age 54 carpenter b.
NC and the only person living with him is a Richard Coleman age 16 b. NC
In 1850 the family is in Lower Creek, Caldwell Co, NC (census says that
they were all born in Rowan Co, NC)
Richmond Coleman age 48 Carpenter
Nancy 15
John 8
Richard 7
in the household of Azor Shell, a few doors away, is an Elizabeth Coleman
age 16 ((Azor Shell was a descendant branch of my McCall line- also tied to my
Ross family)) Elizabeth Coleman ended up marrying Azor Shell 27 FEB 1866 in
Caldwell Co, NC
There had been a Thomas Coleman in Burke Co, NC in 1800 but I don't know
what happened to him after that. and a Phillip Coleman in Rowan Co, NC
1810 There were John, Phillip and William Coleman in Rowan Co, NC.
1820 John Coleman is gone from the area...could he have gone to SC?
Reuben Ross and his father in law, Isaac Green had also been in the
Halifax/Edgecombe Co, and Northampton Co,NC area before coming to SC but there is
about a 8 year gap where I can't account for there whereabouts before I find
them in SC in 1769 then Isaac Green died in St. Mark's Parish, Craven Co, SC
before May 1772. Reuben Ross was apparently dead before 1788 in about the same
area...one Priscilla Ross was head of household on the 1788 tax list of what
was then Clarendon Co, SC.
Any connections?

I am interested in information on Edward and Elizabeth"Betsey Long Coleman. I might descend from their son William A. Coleman who was born in 1804 in Harrison co. Ky. and might be the same man who married in Shelby co. Ind. on January 25, 1839 to Sarah Tindall and died in Noble Township, Shelby co. Ind. on July 9, 1860 and is buried in the Winchester Methodist Cemetery in Noble or Washington Township in Shelby co. Ind. I would like to hear from anyone who would have information on this Coleman family. Duane McKenzie. dmckenze(a)hutchtel.net
