It is time for my annual query to see if anyone has turned up that knows my
line of KOHLMAN/COLEMAN. My line seems to be like hens' teeth...hard to find.
I know that my line was KOHLMAN, Jacobi who came over from Germany with his
sons according to another researcher. My son was Phillip. They lived in MD,
went to Brother's Valley in Bedford Co., PA. Then it becomes a little muddy.
Some of them returned to MD, one went to NY and I think mine stayed in PA and
moved on to OH. He may have been in Warren Co. north of Cincinnati for a short
period of time, he may have traveled the OH River w/ BOWSER, Henry and he may
have traveled on his own. I would like to know who his wife Susanna was
originally? They lived on a poor farm, as stated in tax records in Perry Co., OH
where Phillip, Sr. died. There was a JOhn COLEMAN buried there also. Phillip,
Jr. was my line; he married Nancy HORN and had four children, daughter
Harriet being my line. Phillip died young leaving Nancy to fare for herself. She
did well for not being an educated woman. She married Henry BOWSER and had one
baby after another losing most of them before she managed to keep one son who
may have not really been worth the effort. I was told that she did not trust
him so she fixed her will, etc. so that his children could inherit but not
him. Smart lady! She and Henry managed the money/land left to the COLEMAN
children and returned the same to them when they came of age to handle matters.
Does anyone know anything about PHillip Sr. and his wife, Susanna? I suspect
that she was from PA where he appears to have spent most of his time prior to
coming to OH. They are buried in a poorly kept lot w/ stones broken and
missing in MT. Perry M.E. Church in Clayton Tp., Perry Co., OH.There is an
unidentified John Coleman who died as a young man who is buried with the two Phillips
and others. Susanna is buried there also I think he is most probably a son
born to Phillip Sr. and Susanna who died young afterthe family came to
Perry Co., OH. sometime around 1815.

Mike,
I had Coleman's in Ohio, my great grandfather, James D. Mitchell, married
Mary A. Coleman 25 December 1878.
Mary A. Coleman born 1856 in Ohio and died 1934 in Freemont, Michigan.
Mary's father, Oliver Coleman born abt. 1825 in New York.
1860, Mary her father, Oliver, mother Phoebe born abt. 1832 in New York, &
brother, William born abt. 1852, lived in Brooklyn, Ohio; Cuyahoga County.
I have tracked the family in Ohio after 1860, except lost track of Oliver,
may have died in the Civil War?
Regards,
Richard

Coleman/Coalman Winchester lived and died in Rockingham Co., NC. We have
always assumed this could be a tracer name for his mother's name. Anyone having
any knowledge of this connection please let me know. Coleman's father was
John.

Sarah Bostick is not living with parents in 1870. by 1880 her father is dead
and her mother is a widow.
According to 1900 Census in Kaufman County, Texas Robert A. Coleman was
married 24 years so he would have married Sarah Bostick about 1876 since
most of their children were born in Arkansas and that's where Sarah Was in
1860, I believe they married in Arkansas as well.
