Wow...I forgot to mention that I had that. I do indeed have a birth
certificate for that James COLEMAN. He was born July 8, 1880 and his mother's name
was Ann KILPATRICK. They lived at 102 Tatlock Street. His father James was
a house pianter. I will keep your email in my possible file...you just never
know.
Good luck!
Ella
Hello all,
It's been a while so I'll try this again. Hopefully there is someone
new on the list who might be able to make a connection since I'm stuck.
My great grandfather was James COLEMAN. I have one document that shows he
was born in 1880 in Liverpool, England. If he was born born about 1880 then
there is only one possible family that he belongs to but I have no way of
proving it in the 1881 England Census.
His marriage certificate shows that his father was named James COLEMAN and
was deceased. The family story goes that his father died when he was very
young and my great grandfather was raised in an orphanage. He was taken out of
the orphanage at about 18 years of age with about 4 other boys and taken to
the home of either an EAVES or a HARLING. There he met Fanny HARLING, they
fell in love and married on December 1st 1906 in the Parish Church in the
Parish of Thornton in the county of Lancaster. Registration District...Fylde

Does anyone have a connection or knowledge of this Coleman family living in the Town of Thompson, Sullivan County, New York - information taken from the 1850 US Federal Census:
Coleman, Hannah - age 54 - Born VA - est yr of birth 1795
Coleman, Thos - age 26 - Born NY - est yr of birth 1823 - Carpenter*
Coleman, Harriet - age 27 - Born NY - est yr of birth 1822
Coleman, Theo (Theodore R.)- age 21 - Born NY - est yr of birth 1828 - Wagon Maker (my great-grandfather)
Coleman, Robert - age 19 - Born NY - est yr of birth 1830 - Carpenter
Coleman, Sarah L. - age 16 - Born NY - est yr of bith 1833
Coleman, Robert W. - age 1 - Born NY - est yr of birth 1848
I found one portion of this Coleman family in the 1860 Census living in Cochecton, Sullivan Co., NY:
*Coleman, Theodore - age 38 - est yr of birth 1821 - Carpenter (I believe this is an error, I think Theodore is
actually the Thos Coleman from the 1850 Census due to age and occupation) also see **Theodore Coleman below
Coleman, Harriet - age 38 - est yr of birth 1821
Coleman, Robert W. - age 11 - est yr of birth 1848
Coleman, Samuel - age 9 - est yr of birth 1850
Coleman, Frank - age 7 - est yr of birth 1852
Coleman, Thomas - age 5 - est yr of birth 1854
Coleman, Edith L. - age 2 - est yr of birth 1857
Also found in the 1860 Census in New York City:
Coleman, Hannah - age 63 - born NY (1850 Census says she was born VA)
Coleman, Theodore (R.) - age 30 - born NY - est yr of birth 1829 - Wagon Maker (my great-grandfather)
Coleman, Sarah - age 20 - born NY - est yr of birth 1839 (I believe this Theodore's bride, the former Sarah Palmer, not his sister, Sarah L. of the 1850 Census)
Coleman, Amelia - age 17 - born NY - est yr of birth 1842 (no idea who she is, not listed in the 1850 Census)
Theodore R. Coleman and his wife Sarah Palmer have the following known children:
Charles Coleman - b. abt 1862 - NYC (believe he died young)
Theodore Wallace Coleman - b. 1866 - NYC (my grandfather)
Carrie Amelia Coleman - b. 1868 - NYC
R. William Coleman - btn. 1870 - 1874
Theodore R. Coleman died in 1874 - his widow and children are found in the 1880 Census living in Port Jervis, Orange County, NY - not far from Sullivan County, NY where the Coleman's and Palmer's formerly lived. Any information on this Coleman line would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

I am looking for Sally Coleman. Her full name is Sarah Anne Matilda Eugenia Idella Harriet Rosetta Esther Victoria "Sally" COLEMAN. With a name like that you'd think she'd be easy to track lol. She was born May 22, 1859, and died April 20, 1920. I do not have a birthplace nor deathplace. I believe Mississippi to be her final resting place. Family lore has it that she ran away at 16 or 17 years old. She had a step mother she did not get along with. She bound her clothes up and hid them in a ditch, then snuck out at nightfall to meet the wagon train headed for Mississippi. She perhaps rode with the LANN family. Sarah LANN was married to David Zachariah PALMER, and Sally married their son Henry Joseph on 10-18-1882, just a few months before Sarah Lann Palmer passed away in December of that same year.
Sally and Henry had a daughter, Effie Pauline who Married Belton Burton SULLIVAN, and they are the parents of my maternal grandmother who was born 1922 in Greenwood Springs, Monroe County, MS.
This is the first time I have tried to really research this side of the family, most of my efforts have concentrated on the SULLIVAN side. I appreciate any help anyone might be able to give me.

Hello to the KNIGHT, LEWIS, ELLZEY, COLEMAN, AND BRIGHT LISTS:

md: Spencer B. PARKER of Rankin County, Mississippi and later

# 2: Re: Mary COLLINS?, thought to be the wife of Evan ELLZEY, b: late

prob. in Jones County, Mississippi, George W. ELLZEY, b: 1810 in South Carolina,
and Irvin E./Evan? ELLZEY, b: 1821 in either South Carolina or Jones County,

#3: Re: ? COLEMAN?, possible 1st husband for Rachael Moranda/Marinda
"Randa/Randy" LEWIS whom is said to have married both known husbands, John Wesley
BRIGHT and Spencer B. PARKER, under the name of Moranda COLEMAN......why?????
I am revisiting an old question with # 1 since finding that one of my
paternal great grandmother's half-sister's granddaughters whom I recently heard from
online has some of the same divergent information in her family group as I had
in mine. It may be a result of a simple earlier mistake in assigning and
pronouncing family names but then, again, it may be something else.
Our mutual great grandmother was Rachael Moranda/Marinda "Randa/Randy" LEWIS
born in 1851 in Jones County, MS, whom is usually seen as the daughter of
Harriett ELLZEY and John LEWIS in other branches connecting information but, so
far, in the past 10 years each time I have connected with another family branch
descended from my great grandmother, Rachael Moranda LEWIS, I have found the
name of her father as John LEWIS but her mother's name shows up as
Carrie/Karrie KNIGHT. And Rachael Moranda LEWIS is said to have married both known
husband's, John Wesley BRIGHT and Spencer B. PARKER, my great grandfather, under the
name of Moranda COLEMAN but we still don't know where the COLEMAN name came
from. There are connecting KNIGHT families to this family group in Jones
County, MS and lots of of KNIGHT individuals but still have not uncovered any
direct connection with a Carrie/Karrie KNIGHT and John LEWIS who was married to
Harriet ELLZEY as another wife/etc..
Could this name of Carrie/Karrie KNIGHT have been a simple confused entry for
Harriet ELLZEY and the BRIGHT family name that Rachael Moranda married into
and had children by including one daughter named
Rachael Moranda/Marinda "Randa/Randy" LEWIS
born: 1851 in Jones County, Mississippi
died: Aft. 1894 in Simpson County, Mississippi
(does anyone have the date and cause of her death?)
mother: Harriett ELLZEY
born: 1824 in Jones County, MS
or possibly South Carolina
mother: Mary COLLINS?
(The # 2 Re: Mary COLLINS?....this info is said
to be in an ELLZEY - LEWIS family Bible...is Mary a COLLINS?)
father: Evan ELLZEY
father: John LEWIS
born: Abt. 1820 in Jones County, MS
mother: Nancy COPELAND
mother: Rachael TUCKER
father: Ripley COPELAND, Sr., (RS)
father: Howell LEWIS, Sr.
md: poss. a ? COLEMAN?
md: John Wesley BRIGHT
md: Spencer B. PARKER
Can anyone shed any tiny amount of light on the situation involving the name
of Carrie/Karrie KNIGHT continually resurfacing as the mother of Rachael
Moranda/Marinda "Randa/Randy" LEWIS/aka Moranda COLEMAN?/aka Mrs. Rachel Moranda
LEWIS BRIGHT PARKER?
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Bellinda Myrick-Barnett
