I haven't anything on the given names you have listed as of yet. I'm having
the same problem, their are Coleman's with the same given name as my Coleman's
in New York, it's a madder of sorting them out.
I've been concentrating on my Mitchell side at the present time. If and
when I can get them back to New York, I plan on concentrating my time in that
part of the country. Besides having my Coleman's back to New York, I also have
my Davis and Wangeman ancestors back to New York.
Hopping to have some luck with my Mitchell ancestors this summer....

I wonder if either one of you (L.J. Masters and Mitchell Ancestry) have any
information on the following Colemans? The earliest info I have on my
husband's Coleman family is DANIEL COLEMAN and wife, PAULINE W. HASTINGS (no
further info) and their son (a twin - nothing further known of a second
twin), ENOCH C. COLEMAN, b. 1825, Colchester, New London Co., CT. and wife,
SARAH M. DIMMOCK/DIMICK, b. 1827, NY (her parents names not currently
known).
To date I've only found seven children's births for Enoch and Sarah:
1. FEMALE COLEMAN, b. 19 Dec 1852, Mansfield, Tolland Co., CT.
2. CHILD COLEMAN, b. ca 1854, West Ashford, Windham Co., CT.
3. Child Coleman, b. ca 1856, W. Ashford, Windham Co., CT.
4. GEORGIANA E. COLEMAN, b. 16 Mar 1861, W. Ashford, Windham Co., CT.
5. GEORGE BRINTON McCLELLAN COLEMAN, b. 4 Nov 1864, W. Ashford, Windham
Co., CT., d. 25 Dec 1928, Brockton, Plymouth Co., MA. and wife, INEZ ESTELLA
THOMPSON. According to my husband's sister, Millicent Coleman, GEORGIANA
might be a twin to GEORGE but with the birthdates I have, it doesn't seem
likely.
6. FEMALE COLEMAN, b. Apr. 13, 1870, W. Ashford, Windham Co., CT.
7. Male Coleman, b. January 15, 1872, W. Ashford, Windham Co., CT.
On info I have, George B. McC. Coleman seems to be the only one to have
married and had children.....I have this info.

Hello all,
Is anyone else out there researching Coleman's in Devon, England?
Pam
I am still trying to connect with descendants related to my Philip Coleman, born ca. 1808 in S.C. then moved to possibly Hall, Forsyth and/or Gwinnett CO.s, GA. I think Philip was the son or nephew of either Abner Coleman or Philip Coleman, Sr. My Philip and family passed through Coffee CO.,TN. around 1855-1860. I think he may have had a son that married in TN. and stayed behind with his family as the others traveled on to Izard CO., AR. According to the 1860 TN. Census, Warren CO.: J..J. Coleman, 28, wife, Ruth 30, son, Nicholdson, da.Mary, 8, da. Victoria, 6. These 3 children show up in Izard CO. later on. Does any one have the research on either Abner or Philip Coleman, Sr.? Thank you, Sue Shell Chrisco
Zelda,
My interest is Greene County Alabama Colemans, but Pickens lies just
Northwest of it, so I plunged into this little mystery of yours.
Coincidentally, Lamar County lies just north of Pickens, and your family may
be connected to one I found in the Vail precinct of Lamar or another I found
in Vails of Pickens County. Lamar was formed from part of three counties,
one of them Pickens, in Feb 4, 1867. So, it may be the two families are in
the same area of Vail which may straddle the county line. I didn't find any
potential connection to my Colemans in Greene County, just based on what I
know today.
http://www.familysearch.org/ Search result has a family in the 1880 U.S.
Census of Beat 3 of Pickens County, (Vails), AL.
Is this him? What more can you tell about your T. J. Coleman? To whom was
he married? What child or children did they have and when and where?

In 1860, The U.S. Census for 1st Division of Montgomery County, Post Office
of Montgomery, shows T. J. 20 yrs old and Martha 18 yrs old in the household
of A. P. Smith, family group 1267, page 283.
[Microfilm Series M653, Roll 19]
The 1900 U.S. Census for Lamar County, AL, Vail Precinct lists a Martha
Coleman as 56:
Martha A. Coleman Head White Female b. Oct 1844, 56 yrs old
Nancy A Davis Daughter W F b. July 1867, 32 yrs
old
Estel M. Coleman Daughter W F b. Nov 1874, 26 yrs old

Charlie G. Davis Grandson W Male b. June 1886, 13 yrs
Arch (C.?) Davis Grandson W M b. Dec? 1892?, 8? yrs
I had thought this to be the same family as that of the 1880 group above,
but the similar name of Mattie in both groups would require the 5 month old
in 1880 to be listed as about 20 yrs old in 1900, not 15 yrs as shown. In
1880, Nancy would have been 12, the age of Thomas B., and Estel M. would
have been just 6 yrs, between Marshal and Joseph, where she does not appear.
So, these are not the same group, which means I was unsuccessful in finding
either T J or Martha in 1900.
The 1910 U.S. Census for Lamar County, AL Precinct 13, Vail, has Martha
listed as age 65 years, probably the same as that one from the 1900 group.
County formation information from
http://www.rootsweb.com/~algenweb/county.html
Lamar county formed 4 Feb 1867 from parts of Cherokee, Chickasaw, and
Pickens.
Pickens county formed 18 Dec 1819 from Tuscaloosa County.

Does anyone have any COLMANs that settled around the Pickens County area? I
would appreciate any help with this as I am completely stuck. T. J. Coleman
was born in AL, not sure where, bout 1840 and died in Pickens County about 1911
or 1914. It is possiable that he was born around the Montgomery area. Thanks
for any help you can give me.

Dear Barb,
My mother once told me that we had a grandmother named Isabelle. So far you
are the only person that has mentioned an Isabelle. My G-Grandfather was
harrison coleman from New Jersey. My grandmother was Anna Coleman born in 1873.
Do you have a Harrison in the family> Melva from Fl
Joann,
Thanks for the reply!
None of the Coleman's that I have been able to find or know of moved to VA.
They came from VA in the 1800 sometime -but none went back that I know of.
Thanks again,
Donna

Rebecca,
Thank you so very much for your reply!!
I don't know for sure but I'm thinking they are not the same. After my great grandmother died (before 1910) George W. Coleman remarried a Minnie Bell Darby in Mississippi County, AR (just over the border of Missouri) and in the 1910 census they have been married 1 year. In 1920 census she (Minnie Bell Coleman) is listed as a widow. George must have died sometime after 1910 and before 1920. I can find no record of that and no burial information from Mississippi County. The funeral home doesn't have anything on him either - Yes, another "dead end" - I seem to have a lot of those lately!
Also, my George W. Coleman was born in Missouri in 1867 - I think his father was George I. (or E.) Coleman born in VA in 1842(not real sure of that).
Thanks again for your help and we'll keep on plugging - I'm sure I have run across your George W. somewhere - I think I have seen all of them lately.
Donna
Well I have looked everywhere for a MATTIE HOLLAND COLEMAN and come to find out on a marriage record in Pemiscot County, Missouri 1882 - 1884 my "Mattie" was recorded as Neattie A. Holland - marring George W. Coleman.
In the 1900 census in Cottonwood Point, Pemiscot County, Missouri she is listed as Mattie A. Coleman.
Her children were
Clay Watkin Coleman (my grandfather) born 1893
Lucy A. Coleman born 1895
John Britton Coleman born 1897
and a Edmond or Edward Coleman listed in 1910 census as 4yrs old. My mother knows nothing about him and this would have been her Uncle.
She knew that Lucy died of TB when she was 16 or 18 (can find no record of that). John moved to California. I have found his family.
Any help?
Thanks,
Donna
My brick walls are getting higher!
Does anyone have a Harold (born 1903 in Missouri) or a Homer (born 1905 in Missouri) in their line? Parents were Lee and Rilla Coleman and they lived in Fayetteville, AR in 1910? Other children were Varel,(1900) Helen (1907) and Doris(1909-10) I am most appreciative of any and all help!!
Thanks,
Donna

My great grandmother, Mary A. Coleman born 1856 in Cuyahoga County, Ohio;
father, Oliver Coleman born 1825 in New York.
I only have Oliver in the 1860 Census...
Does any of your Coleman's tie into my Coleman's?
