Dear Janet in Georgia,
Hello. Not sure if you were wanting ancestral or descendant information and
you may have already seen the following...but, just in case you haven't, here
is some information on the couple, Marie Theresa COLEMAN/shown here only as
Marie Therese COLEMAN, (slight difference with the "E" instead of an "A" makes a
huge difference sometimes in what you can locate regardless of which one she
actually used or it may be she used both,) and husband, Jean PORTAIS. Also,
including links and url addressesses for these websites where this information
is located. The following will show information on their children as well as
ancestors for both Jean and Marie.
Again, you may have seen these websites and this information but, perhaps,
not. See the following information immediately below.
Good luck.
Sincerely,
Bellinda Myrick-Barnett

Many, Many Colemans were in Virginia from the earliest Colony right up to
today. However, my group is not known to be connected with most of them.
Robert Coleman of Nansemond County Virginia (recorded from 1684 to 1714)
eventually followed his sons south and inland away from the unhealthy gases
of the swampy tidal region. In fact, I imagine what they needed to get away
from was the swamp mosquitoes, though in their time they thought the gas was
unhealthy, not realizing the mosquitos could make you fatally ill. That
didn't become known until much later when studies of the Panama Canal
workers demonstrated the link between skeeters and disease.
The locations and time periods of interest in my study of the descendants of
Robert Coleman of Nansemond County Virginia are:
Hamilton County, TN 1820-present
Fairfield County, SC 1750-present, particular the town of Ridgeway.
Edgecombe County, NC 1700-1800, especially near Tarboro, the Tar River, and
Fishing Creek
Robeson County, NC, 1700-1750.
Georgetown District, SC
Greene or Bibb Counties of Alabama, 1820-present, especially the town of
Eutaw
Columbus Counties, especially the towns of Fair Bluff, Cherry Grove, Cerro
Gordo, and others near them of NC 1700-1800.
Marion County, SC 1700-1850, especially towns near the state line close to
Fair Bluff and Cherry Grove, NC
or Bertie or Robeson Counties, NC, 1700-1850.
Please note: The URLs below may wrap to a second line. When that happens,
you must copy and paste both parts together in your web browser before the
link will work. There should be a blank line after the end of each, so if
any text appears on the next line after a line starting "http://", it
belongs at the end of the previous line!
If you find Colemans in these places and periods, then you could have a
possible connection with Robert Coleman of Nansemond County, VA. See:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~nansemondcolemans/index.html
If you find Colemans in Charles City County Virginia, Halifax County North
Carolina, Union County South Carolina, Mississippi or Texas, you may connect
with J. P. Coleman's group of descendants of Robert Coleman of Charles City
County, VA. See:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~nansemondcolemans/chascity/index...
If you find Colemans from the Mobjack Bay/Gloucester County area of
Virginia, or Georgia, or Kentucky, you may connect with the descendants of
Robert Coleman of Moback Bay Virginia. See:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~mobjackbaycolemans/index.html
