Am very new to Genealogy and this list.
The names I am researching are COLEMAN, HANNEY, BAKER, ROWE from NY to name
a few. I've been lucky finding them in the 1920 & 1910 Census. This is
where I sit.
1. William Henry Coleman abt 1851 PA - 1922 NY
+ Katherine B Baker abt 1864 NY - NY
2. William Baker Coleman - abt 1891 Minnesota
2. Roscoe Chittenden Coleman - 28 Jun 1892 Minnesota - 20 Dec1969
Maryland
+Alice C Hanney - 5 Nov 1888 NY - 5 Feb 1964 Maryland
3. Stanley Roscoe Coleman - 28 Mar 1918 NY - 5 Aug 1963
Maryland
+ Jennie Lee
4. Roscoe Stanley Coleman -
2. Sylvester Wright Coleman - abt 1896 Minnesota - NY
All the Colemans are buried in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, NY.
The 1910/20 Census say William Henry Coleman was born in PA and both his
parents in PA as well. Not sure where to start the search in PA.
Alice
Gil,
This is so very nice of you.
Thank you.

Hello Barbara and All
I have looked up 1881 Census for Bridge family. There were a few living in
the West Midlands at the time. One family stood out as a contender
Charles aged 31 born Wales, Cotton Spinner
Ann 31 wife born Glossop, Derbs
Charles son 8
Mary daughter 6
Isaac son 4
Lydia daughter 1
The census has alot of errors- spelling of names, ages etc. Could you let me
have a little more info -perhaps date of arrival in America and I can work
backwards.
Bye for now, Gill
Hi, Gillian, Charles Bridge, spouse, Maryann and three childen lived in
Derbyshire, England before coming to America. If you find them there in
the 1881 census, I'd like to know the ages...especially Charles. Thank
you for your kindness. Peace. Barb in FL

Morning everyone( It's morning in wet and freezing N. Wales)
I don't know if this will help any one but I have parts of 1851 census for
S. West e.g. Somerset etc and full 1881 Census at home - I await arrival of
1891 census for Lancashire
If any one wants me to look anything up please shout though I may be slow in
replying.
I am looking at ways of tracing links to pre 1837 Welsh / Scottish Colemans.
If only they knew the trouble they've caused!!
Regards, Gill

Gill,
I have been somewhat following your post to the group and was interested but
just out of favor to the Coleman's until a mention of a George Coleman.
Well you really have my interest up now. I have a George I. or George J.
Coleman born around 1842 (just a est. guess from census records) he was the
father of George W. Coleman (my great,great-grandfather). This George I (or
J.) I found in the 1880 & 1870 census in Pemiscot County, MO. It says he
was born in VA. Going to 1850 VA census, I find a George Coleman born
around 1842 (6 at time of census) with a father named George W. Coleman who
is a Dr.
Didn't you say that some of your Coleman's came to VA? Do you think this is
some of them? Let me know what you think! :-)

Dear Coleman listers:
I am researching one of my wife's lines on her mothers side.
I have a dead end at John Coleman all the info I have in the family records
in that he was born abt 1736 of Mitcheldean, Gloucs, England. John's wife's
name is Elizabeth Young born Abt 1740 Of Mitcheldean, Gloucs, England.
His son, Edward Coleman was also born in Mitcheldean, Gloucs, England. His
christening date was 14 Jul 1765. His death date is 30 Oct 1856 in
Westbury-On-Severn, Glcstr, England. His wife was Sarah DOWELL christened 19
Oct 1769 in Minsterworth, Glcstr, England, they were married 4 Oct 1790 in
Minsterworth, Glcstr, England.
I'm hoping to break through the dead end and extend this line back a few
generations. I'd like to verify this documentation as well. I'm also
interested in the wife's info if you have any.
Sincerely,
TC

Alison I did try to contact you but had my message returned
My GGGrandfather was James Coleman born c1828 Ireland -by 1859 was in
Manchester UK I think he was married to my GGGrandmother Catherine O'Brien
by then as their daughter Mary Ann was born in 1859....however I can't find
a record of their marriage!
Did he have another life somewhere?
Please contact me if you think there may be a connection
Regards Gill
Hi Gillian and everyone
I have been on this list a while now......silently waiting for someone to
mention Coleman and Wales :-))
My GGGM and her three children came to South Australia in 1860 from
Monmouthshire,Wales and anything on the Wales end has proved to be elusive.
My GGGF Timothy COLEMAN (no information at all)did not come to Sth Aust with
them. Was he a miner? Did he die in a mining accident??
I am looking for any connection with him and his wife ANN (her surname still
unknown and born c1804) and their children.
The children were DAVID born c1839/1840: ESTHER b: c1845 and EMMA b: c1848
Ann and her children travelled to Sth Aust aboard the "SCHAH JEHEN"
David was a Miner aged 20 on arrival here and settled in a mining area in
SA.
When Ann died, it was stated on her death cert she was a widow (she did not
remarry).
As you can see I have many unanswered questions and I would like to obtain
any answers I can.
So if you or anyone else can help I would be most grateful. Is so sad seeing
my GGGM with unknown where her maiden name should be and of course, if
anyone is connected, I can help with the Sth Aussie end :-))
Kind regards
Nori in South Australia
Sorry I sent the last message without finishing it!
I belong to a UK mining list and will ask about Colemans, White Russians etc
for you
Also I looked up the 1881 Census for Wales which returned information on 516
Colemans in South Wales. I know it's a little after the period you are
speaking of but it shows that the name is concentrated around Glamorgan and
Monmouth with a high % in traditional mining areas. Many Colemans came to
Wales from Co. Cork - looking for work. From Co. Cork they would have
arrived at the South Wales ports. The name Coleman is well represented all
over Britain and I suspect the info in ' The Coleman Family ' is
misleading - plenty in Ireland, England and Wales. Many Irish Colemans came
to UK for work as did my ancestors. By 1901 Census of North Wales they were
arriving in North Wales for work. I was in the county record office
yesterday - parish records for some counties are available from C16.
As I do quite alot of research in archive dept's I'll look at some old
registers and see if the name crops up.
Do you have a full name of any of your Welsh ancestors?
Any way hope this helped, Regards Gill in sunny but freezing north Wales

To Everyone with the lost Coleman line from Wales and Ireland:: Is there a
way we can get ALL of our information in one "file" so we can check to see
what we have in common. Not only did the Wales , VA to TN Coleman go BUT I
found a Jesse Coleman d. in AR and was buried in the Old Shook Cem. in
Bedford CO TN. For all to know "When I" write Bedford CO I am referring to
an area around a town name Flat Creek in Bedford CO in TN. Do remember when
checking this area of TN you also equally research all the surrounding
counties, county lines changed and Colemans loved to move and use the same
given names over and over. I have met several 'cousins' searching for
Coleman families from Ireland and Wales -- we know where we came from and
where we have been back to 1830's then there is a brick wall. I personally
think I know my next generation family but all I find list a few children
probably not all of the children. I think Joshua's [Jack] father or uncle
was a Jordan Coleman married to a Nancy BECAUSE the 1850 census shows
Joshua has a Nancy age 66 in his home. Open for discussion.

Dear Norrie
'Shall do all I can to help. I can look up St. Catherines index for you (
BMD) and any census returns that I can get my mitts on.
I don't know how much info I'll get but will try for you. Will keep in
touch. I know what you mean I feel the same re: many Irish ancestors who I'm
trying to trace in Ireland
Regards Gill
I am still searching for leads on Philip Coleman who, census records show, was born in S.C. ca. 1808. I think his father may have been Philip Coleman, Sr. These names, along with Abner Coleman, shows up in different counties in Ga.(Cobb, Forsyth) They may have come there because of the GA. Land Lotteries. Does anyone have this line of Colemans? My Philip Coleman also was found in Coffee CO. TN. in the 1850's before moving to Izard Co., in the 1860's. Any leads would be appreciated.
