Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb

I am trying to find information on Joseph Smith "JS" Coleman
born May 7 1838 in Tennessee. Married Feb 2 1859 in Tennessee.
and died Sept 2 1925 in Randolph County Arkansas. He married
Virginia Ann Thompson.

The entry for James Coleman reads:
James Coleman, a soldier in the 11th Pennsylvania Regiment was tried on
the 29th (April 1780) ulto at the General Court Martial whereof Colonel
Shreve is President for "Repeated Desertion Forgery and disposing of his
Arms and Accoutrements Pled Guilty. The Court are of the opinion that he
is Guilty of a breach of the 1st Article 6th Section and 3rd Article 12th
Section of the Articles of War and do sentence him to death more than two
thirds of the Court agreeing. The Commander in Chief confirms the
sentence. (P. 319 Vol 18)
Vol 19 p. 198, the following is stated regarding Richard Coleman:
Of the Fifth Virginia Regiment. He was appointed lieutenant to rank from
May 1778 and retired in February 1781.
(am interested if any of the list members are related to this Richard
Coleman. I would like to know more about him - particularly his death
date and place and place of origin)
Vol 3 p. 92. J. Coleman is named in reference to a list of goods sent to
George Washington.
Vol 15 p. 462: Ensign John Coleman served until Dec 1779.
Vol 12 p. 107: Lieutenant Dudley Coleman of the Thirteenth Massachusetts
Regiment. He resigned in March 1779.
