I am researching my Coleman families.
My grandfather's dad was William Samuel Coleman born in 1848 Flat Creek
Bedford CO TN. Those of you who have Coleman families that came from TN OR
had family that had Coleman kin in TN let me know. I am interested in 1780
to 1880. One of my cousins remembers some of William Coleman's uncles or
great uncles settled in AR & MI. I know this family moved a lot up and down
VA, NC. & SC to TN and I don't know where else. For the most part these were
LARGE families poor & rich. My great great grandfather was Joshua C.
Coleman, he is on several census around 1840 to 1860 in Bedford CO. Two
marriages 1st was to Sarah Ann [Sally] Byrd died June 16, 1850. His 2nd
wife was Jane Floyd Bearden mar. her very short time after Sally's death.
Total of 15 children.
Any information is welcome.

Hello Coleman Clan.....Please allow me to begin by thanking each & everyone
of you for being such wonderfull helpful folk. At this point I really don't
have time to keep up with all the emails from the gen lists. My Momma passed
on March 09th. this year, my Mother-in-Law April 26th, yesterday. Hubby & I
are attempting to be first time home buyers, & I just went back to work at
the Garden store for Appleway Florists after caring for my Momma for four
years. This is a very busy time of year, & after July I will be working the
FTD dept. I hope to be back in the Coleman list before the end of the year &
know I'm going to be missing out on a whole lot ; (
May God Bless & keep you all,
As always, all my very best,
Teresa (Spokane, Wa.)

Cathy,
The U.S. Census project for Missouri has placed images of the Randolph Co.,
AR U.S. Census of 1900 on line at:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~census/states/missouri/
I would check a Missouri Census Index and the Census Soundex which records
names of children 10 years old or younger. See your local library with a
genealogy section for these resources, or if all else fails, read the Census
directly for the district if you know it. Hey, I have found that very
productive, though time consuming.

I have nothing on him in the NY census. I would like any of this you have.

Yes I have that also. Since a nephew went to Ohio I thought he might have
gone there but I don't find him in the census here.

Why do you think that?

Yes I have that and the line back to Thomas 1595 in ENG.
Also Martha back 10 to 13 generations.

What do you need? "Ask and it shall be given unto you." If I have it. 8-}

Looking for information on Royal Coleman. He was born in 1778 in Athol,
Massachusetts, married to Dolly Godfrey. At some point, he went to Central
New York. I have found him in the censuses for several counties there.
After about 1840, it was reported simply that "he went west" There could
have possibly been a second wife, Rebekkah Cross (or Grass). Royal was the
son of John Coleman, Jr and Martha Hasey.
Any info on Royal Coleman and hhis family would be greatly appreciated.
thanks,

Hello,
I am a member of a Belgian team of World War I battlefield prospectors,
active in the Ypres area. For the past 3 years we found the remains of more
than 100 soldiers on a battlefield in my village (Boezinge, north of Ypres).
Most of them are British. Unfortunately only one has been identified by
name.
From time to time we find personal items of soldiers, too. Last November
2000 I found shreds of a waterproof tent or rain cloth on which the owner
had written his name and service number twice.
This is what I have found out about him :
Name : EDGAR COLEMAN
Service number : 9142
Unit : 2nd Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers
Medals : Victory / British / 15 Star
Date of entry in his first theatre of war (France) : 21 May 1915.
He survived the war ; discharged 19 Oct. 1917 (Battle of Passchendale)
Not known : married ? / children ? / place and date of birth ? / place and
date of death ? /parents ? / residence ?
Fot the past 4 months I have been trying to find out if Edgar Coleman had
direct relatives or descendants. All my attempts have been unsuccessful.
(Also writing to 3 newspapers in the Manchester area, and posting message on
the Coleman genforum.) A trace I had set my teeth in turned out to be wrong.
I do not know for sure if Edgar Coleman was from Lancashire or went back to
Lancashire after being discharged.
I'm afraid this is my last attempt to solve my problem. I do hope that some
Coleman with a family tree finds an Edgar Coleman who was born between
1880 - 1895 (?).
Or does anybody have a suggestion that might lead to an answer ?
All replies will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Aurel Sercu

Just ran across a Coleman reference in "Two Centuries in Elizabethtown and
Hardin County, Kentucky 1776-1976" by Daniel Elmo McClure, Jr., copyright
1979, Hardin Co. Historical Society, p. 184:
Colonel Francis SLAUGHTER, Junior
1730-1805
Francis SLAUGHTER, Jr. is recorded as having been born in Culpeper
(Orange County) Virginia, a section of that state in which some members of
the family were found at early dates. One Robert SLAUGHTER is recorded among
others as being settled on land between the Rapidan and Robinson Rivers in
1728 and 1729. (Footnote 40 - Kegley, op. cit., p. 23)
"After the Treaty of Lancaster in 1744 by which the Six Nations of
Indians renounced their claims to all lands in Virginia there was still
greater interest in western lands. The Wood's River Grant was issued in the
spring of 1745 to James PATTON, Robert SLAUGHTER, and others...."
"At a Court for Orange County on Thursday the 23rd day of May in the
Eighteenth year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord King George the Second by
grace of God of Great Britain, France and Ireland, Defender of the Faith,
etc.... Before his Majesty's Justices of the Peace for the said County, to
wit: Robert SLAUGHTER, and others, Gentlemen...."
The writer (McClure) would not know the possible relationship of the
above Robert SLAUGHTER and the subject of this sketch; both lived in Orange
County at the same time. Colonel Francis SLAUGHTER, Jr. had several brothers
who also served in the Revolutionary War. For his military services he
received extensive grants of land in Kentucky, and came to Hardin County
around 1785. IN VIRGINIA HE HAD MARRIED **SARAH COLEMAN**, DAUGHTER OF
ROBERT COLEMAN AND SARAH ANN SAUNDERS. They (the Slaughters) were parents of
SEVEN CHILDREN, six of whom came to Kentucky with their parents. The
birthdates of the children are not known, other than that of Elizabeth
SLAUGHTER, who was born in 1776, perhaps their youngest child.
The children of Francis SLAUGHTER, Jr. and Sarah COLEMAN (SLAUGHTER) were:
Thomas Coleman SLAUGHTER, who on July 17, 1790 married Elizabeth HUBBARD,
daughter of Honorable Austin HUBBARD.
Robert Coleman SLAUGHTER, who married Nancy HYNES December 21, 1797, she
a daughter of Thomas HYNES.
Francis SLAUGHTER III, who remained in Virginia. He married a HOLLOWAY.
Frances SLAUGHTER, who married in 1796 to Samuel Ball HACKLEY.
Sarah SLAUGHTER, no information.
Gilly SLAUGHTER, married James CRUTCHER of Elizabethtown (Hardin Co., KY).
Elizabeth SLAUGHTER, born in 1776, married in 1796 to Daniel FOUSHEE,
born 1775, died 1824. Their issue included Sarah Coleman FOUSHEE, who
married October 21, 1806 William CASH, son of Rev. Warren CASH and Susannah
BASKETT CASH.
End------
I have enough proof and information to know the facts about this gentleman
born in 1823 in the area of Flat Creek Bedford Co TN. I know that in the
year 1840 he married Sarah Ann [Sally] Byrd b. 1826 same area of TN. They
had 4 children, found on the 1850 census for Bedford Co TN. On the farm
listed before their farm was a widow and 4 children-Jane Floyd Bearden.
Sally died June 16, 1850. Joshua married Mrs. Bearden the same year, 1850. I
have some basic genealogy of this family to today. What I need is any
information that could be about Joshua's family. A Nancy Coleman is on the
census in his home age 66 born in SC. This may be his mother.
