Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
I received several emails today from my list mail that had pif files. The
senders all had _ in the beginning of their email address. Like
_Debsaokie(a)aol.com. they all had subject lines that had been sent before but
just a download. No message. Does anyone know is this the way the virus
travels? I don't download from lists but someone told me just opening it
allows it to travel. Information please :) Deb

This wasn't very clear... :000 would be the name on the address book and then
you would not put an address for that entry. Does that make
I have seen this also on my Davis list. Someone on that list said to add to
your address book an entry with no address, exp.: :000 at the top of your
list so when the virus starts to scan your list it gets "bumped" thus keeping
it from infecting others. The problem is still in your computer but you save
others from the virus. I'm not as savvy on the computer as some but I have
done this hoping to at least save someone else if my computer is infected.
If this theory is all wet I'd love to hear from any of you. I have also heard
that some of the virus have gotten pass McAfee.
Good hunting :) Deb Davis Boyles

With resepct to several Rootsweb lists I subscribe to (COLEMAN, MASSEY,
SHARP. WADE), someone's virus is randomly selecting messages from other
subscribers from their hard drive - messages which I or others had
previously posted to these lists - and sent a reply to me. The infected
file did not go to any of these lists, so can't be picked up from the lists.
The infection is in an attachment that genenerally has a pif extension and
unusual subject (e.g.., Hamster.com or something about a fat man.) I didn't
open any of the attachments I got and don't even know the name of the
virus.
So, as always, but espeically now, be very cautious of opening any
Attachment that looks suspicious. If it's a .txt attachment, it's ok, but
pif or exe can be dangerous.

Theron Smith.
I am trying my best to sort out my maternal Co Mayo COLEMAN and related
lines. While I have accumulated some information it has proven a difficult
task to separate the various unrelated COLEMAN lines.
It appears my ancestors are related in one way of the other to these various
lines; COLEMAN-Castle Cloughan; COLEMAN-Coolcran;
MELVIN-Clooniolla(Cloonyvollon); KNIGHT-Coolcran; BEAVIN-Foxford;
COLEMAN-Pontoon; COLEMAN-Knockmore; COLEMAN-Lisecutran: COLEMAN-Bridge St,
Ballina: TRAYNOR-Ballina; COLEMAN-Cloghan; FLYNN-Ranns(Grange);
BROGAN-Friarstown; GILLIAN-Knockmore; LANGAN-Knockmore; TRAYNOR-Arthur St.
Ballina; WALSH-Garden St-Ballina; GAUGHAN-Foxford; BELL; HOGAN-Co Cork;
CLARKE; GILLIAN-Cuinbeg; COLEMAN-Foxford; MURRAY-Foxford ;LUNDY-Foxford;
ROACHE(ROCHE)-Foxford; TERRY-Foxford: MOLLOY-Foxford; BARRETT-Foxford;
AARTHUN-Foxford; DOYLE-Foxford; LAVIN-Foxford: Mc HUGH-Co Donegal.
To further complicate matters my great grandmother Winifred COLEMAN B 1841 in
Coolcran married John COLEMAN from Friarstown. Some of the COLEMAN-TRAYNOR
and COLEMAN-HOGAN lines emmigrated to New Zealand; others to England; while
my direct line went to the US and settled in Pennsylvania and Montana.
Any help and/or suggestions will greatly be appreciated. Thanks

Re Colemans from Canada:
My Colemans are from Ameliasburgh, Ontario, Canada. My Robert Coleman
was born 1787 in Ireland (dont' know where). He mar. Sarah ? from Ireland in
Ireland. They had my ggrandfather David in Ireland. After this, they
migrated to U.S. (don't know where). They had five more children, Charles,
James John, Jane Ann and Robert. They found the U.S. to be unfavorable to
Loyalists. Being Loyalists, and favorable to the crown of England, they
migrated on to Ameliasburgh.
Would love connect and share info with anyone related to this family.

Hey Gang,
Does anyone know the best value for the census? I have seen so many I don't know what is what - the CD's or the subscription to ancestry.com. Suggestions please - I guess I will have to break down and purchase something to continue at home. I hate to admit this but I am sure I am obsessed with this and until I find the "skeleton in the closet" I will not rest!
Shaking the tree and nuts are falling,

Hi Colemans,
My Colemans come from Castledermot, Ireland and I recently discovered that
cousins of my Coleman went to Canada around 1830. Names are Walter,
Benjamin, Samuel and they had a brother Jeff who went to North Carolina. I
had a researcher helping me and he knew of a book called "Colemans of
Kildare" (privately printed @1982) and it is these Colemans who am referring
to. I was hoping I could find out more about them but haven't been able to
so far.
My ancestor was a John (b. 1832) who's father was William - who is likely
descended from a Walter who was born @1775. John had brothers Walter and
Adam and sisters Mary and Katherine (Cate) who married a KEYS before they
came to America. I can't find any of them.
The name Walter goes down every generation until the present - as does
William.
So, perhaps there are Colemans who recognize ancestors from this post - it
would really be helpful .
Thanks

Hi Brenda,
I just rejoined this list after a really long absence, and found your
message. Where are your COLEMANs in Canada? My mother was a COLEMAN, and her
family migrated from Norfolk in England to Western New York State, then on
to Winnipeg, MB and finally to St Catharines, ON.
Cheers,
Jeff

In the middle of an old soy bean field near where I live in DeSoto County, there is what appears to be a family burial plot. There are about 4 graves there and one is a William Coleman that died in the late 1860's. I will have to go back out there and look at the exact dates and the remainder of the names. I mentioned William's grave since it gives his rank in the military. I assume he was involved in the Civil War but I don't know for sure which side. I am guessing he fought for the Confederate Army. If anyone is interested, I will make a point to go back out there and write down more information and post it here.
Thanks,
Hello Fellow Searchers,
I am searching for information on my great-grandfather George W. Coleman born 1867 in Missouri. After his daughter Lucy (born 1895?) died at the age of 16 or 18 and his wife Mattie(Elizabeth)Holland Coleman died (they both had TB)it is said that George had to go to the asylum.
In Arkansas (that's where I am) there was a state hospital for the "insane". Does anyone know if there was such a hospital in Missouri. He was found in Pemiscott County in 1900 with wife and children. I have hit a wall and can't get past it. I would love to find where he is buried or when he died - anything!
Any help with this puzzle would be great!

For Theron Smith.
You may be on the trail of the unknown son of Hezekiah Coleman. The First
Census report in 1790 mentions that he had 4 sons, a wife and 2 daughters.
Only
3 of the sons have been found*. 1. Absalom. 2. William. 3. Bartell. The
daughters
were Winiford and Rebecca. the wife's name is presumed to have been Winiford.
Suggest you review p. 12* of " The Robert Coleman Family from Mobjack Bay,
Virginia----" 1638 to 1970 by James W. Coleman. Copy may be found at the
Laurens
County Library.
Have you searched for Boyd and Sarah Moore's families ? There were both Boyd
and Moore families in Waterloo Twp., Laurens County, where the Colemans
lived. Have a
look at the 1883 map of Laurens County by Kyzer & Hellams, showing names and
places. Also at the library.
Good hunting,
