Hello,
Does anyone know what COLEMAN families were living in Jones County, MS in the
years between 1850 - 1880?
In advance, I thank you for any information that you might be able to provide.
Sincerely,
Bellinda Myrick - Barnett
Hi list. I'm confused. I get the list in digest form and sometimes it seems
there are responses to messages I never recieved.
For example, I recived one that I read today which at the top says this:
#2 COLEMAN...Theophilus very early 18 ["Jennifer Sherwood Braswell" <jens]
But when I read the #2 message it doesn't say anything about Benedictus
escept in the subject line, which says:
Subject: COLEMAN...Theophilus very early 1800s Middle GA area
I've never heard that he was in Georgia and recieved no responses from anyone
with info on him. Did I miss a message? Was he in Georgia?

I am in search of the Coleman family that has 'left few, very few records'.
What I know but can't prove is the family of my great great grandfather,
Joshua C. [Jack] Coleman b. 1823 TN [verbal records say Flat Creek, Bedford
CO] on the 1850 census for Bedford CO TN I located him, his 1st wife and
their 4 children AND the entry before his was the woman who was his 2nd wife
and her children[ she was listed as head of house] a Nancy Coleman age 66 b.
SC was also in his home. Also my family was mention in the "Gowen Papers". I
know a Jesse and a Obediah [Colemans] were kin, don't know what
relationship. I know my family lived in VA, NC, & SC before TN, I know they
went to Cumberland Gap to go to TN. I know this family spread over several
states. I JUST DON'T KNOW THEIR NAMES before Joshua. OH, His wives were
Sarah Ann [Sally] Byrd b.1826 d.1850 and Jane Floyd Bearden.

You are using first names and dates that match up with some Colemans that we
cannot find their parents or anything. There is a group of " Cousins" that
found each other because we were in the same time span and same counties of
TN, NC, and VA. I will make sure they get your mail. I am a great great
granddaughter of Joshua C. [Jack] Coleman b. 1823 TN and Sarah Ann [Sally]
Byrd b. 1826 TN. I have a good basic history from this couple's children to
the present but nothing more on them.

Hi Anna,
I don't know if I connect to Valentine, but I think it is possible.
The earliest Coleman I have is Thomas Coleman, who was born 17 April
1811 in Wheeling, West Virginia and who died 7 May 1882 in Bellepoint,
Delaware Co., Ohio. According to his obituary, he is buried in
Columbus.
His wife's name was Jane LYTHE, born 1 August 1824 in England, died 26
July 1882 in Bellepoint. She is buried at Green Lawn Cemetery in
Columbus (I can only assume that Thomas is there, too.)
If it helps, here is the rest of the information I have on Thomas:
He was the postmaster of Bellepoint.
He shows up on the 1880 census as a resident of Bellepoint.
In the 1860 census, he was living in Hamilton Twp., Franklin Co., Ohio
and his occupation was listed as "grocer."
If any of this sounds familiar, please let me know.

I am HOPING someone has some information on my gggrandfather..
1. ELLISON1 COLEMAN was born Abt. 1805 in North Carolina, and died November
03, 1889 in Jackson Cemetery, Ridgeway Township, Illinois. He married NANCY.
She was born 1808 in North Carolina, and died 1860.
Notes for ELLISON COLEMAN:
On the Gallatin County, Illinois 1860 census the family of Ellison Coleman is
listed thus:
Ellison Coleman, 53 born North Carolina
Nancy Coleman, 52 wife, born North Carolina
Spencer Coleman, 20, son, born Tennessee
Lucy Coleman, 19, Dau., born Tennessee
John H. Coleman, 16, son born Tennessee
Joseph Coleman, 9, son born in Tennessee
John H. Coleman is my ggrandfather and I have his information forward...just
can't seem to find the right connection back. ALSO, I had talked to someone
on this list about a family story about two Coleman brothers that made gun
powder during the Revolutionary War and later started a powder company. I
have found the information about the Coleman/ DuPonte families although I'm
sure they are not my line. I have no idea how this story started in our
family but more than one has repeated it. The person I talked with was
visiting in Florida at the time....if you're still around email me and I 'll
send the information we talked about.
Thanks, Deb
Hi all. I am trying to find info on this Benedictus Coleman and his kids.
His name may have been William Benedictus COLEMAN. He lived in Granville NC
at some point, next to James HUNTER, who married his daughter, Rachel
COLEMAN, who was born bef 1745.
James HUNTER and Rachel COLEMAN married (1760) in and lived in Surry County,
NC.
This info is according to info on the Rootsweb World Connect Project site.
I'm stumped. I'm thinking it may be a clue as to the identity of the parents
of Peter Coleman (b. 1740), who married Abigail Jayne. There are many
questions still as to his parentage, though I've seen good theories.
Please let me know if you know of ANY COLEMANs around Surry County, NC prior
to the 1800s who are also not descendants of Peter and Abigail.
Thanks!

Hello,
I am really desperate to find out any tidbits of information beginning with
my 3rd great grandmother, Elizabeth PIERCE and other missing ancestors in
this information listed below. I am sending it to all the lists regarding

Patsey;
AT a first check of my index (which is grossly out do date) I did not
find an Edwina
Coleman. I did find a Sheldon PERRY who married a Sarah COLEMAN. As soon
a as I rework my index with this years additions to my book I will check
again. Also
I have little or no data on COLEMANS who left OH for other states. Jess

All of the children of William P. COLEMAN, 1808-
1896 and Mahalia SPEAR 1815-1887 were born in OHIO, none to my knowledge
in
VA or WVA. NO SCOTT spouses. Do you need a list of their children?Jess.

The following is a digest of a recent message we sent on our OH. COLEMAN
lines:
We (Doris BENEDICT, Nancy RILEY, and I )are all descendants
of Charles COLEMAN, b. abt 1755, prob. Eng., d. 1800-1810 MD, through his
oldest
son Colby, b. 1771 Eng- 1850, Morgan Co. OH (Nancy's and mine) and his
youngest (?) son Nathan, 1770/75?- 1840-50? Muskingham OH. (Doris' )
We are combining our results into a book on our line and hope to
publish it at cost for further researchers so they wont spent the
frustrating
years that we have on this elusive, muddeled line!
I (Jess Coleman)am a descendant of Colby's oldest son Charles, b.
1796/93? MD - d. 1856, Athens OH. Charles and his first wife Elizabeth
fFULLER
had seven children. He and his second wife Hannah HALL (my line) had
three.
We have identified the following children of Colby COLEMAN and
Hannah GEORGE:, b. 5 Oct 1770, Eng.- d. 2 May 1847, Morgan OH.:
1. Charles 1793/96? + 1. Elizabeth FULLER, +2. Hannah HALL (mine)
2, Rebecca, 1798 + William HARRISON
` 3. Samuel, 1794/1806 + Lidia BECKFORD
4. Ann, 1800 + George CARSON
5. Elizabeth, 1806 + James J. WILSON
6. William< 1809? + Mahala SPEAR
7.. Colby Jr, 1810, +1. Abigail MILLER, 2. MRS Lorena BRUCE,
+ 3. Elizabeth BURSON (Nancy's line)
8. Jesse, 1812-1893, Athens OH, unm.
9. Hannah, 1814? + James G. ROBERTS
There are several possible children of Colby or Nathan we cannot
prove parentage:
Mary J., 1790/1800 + George KINSEY
Fleming, 1815 + Lydia SMITH
Charlotte, 1790/1800 + John BRIGGS
We have traced most of these for three to six generations through
census, marriages and descendants .. We would like to identify the
parents
of the last three and any unknown descendant of Colby or Nathan Coleman.
Tomorrow I will repeat the list of Nathan's known children.

There are a number of William Colemans from VA. However, I wonder if this
might be your tie. Taken from Sherry Nichols' book:
William COLEMAN, b. 1780, Buckingham Co., VA. William was a tithable in
1799. In 1811 he is missing from the tax lists ad does not reappear. in
1803 he sold the 150 acres he inherited from his father Samuel, to his sister
Frances and her husband Robert Harris. William may have been the family who
left home and went to England. That Coleman became very wealthy and left
money to kin in Virginia. A lawyer from Appomattox Co., H. Sackett, handled
the legal details. He was given a sheepskin with all the family ancestry.
No one knew what happened to the money, but lawyer Sackett became involved in
a number of shady deals and finally took his own life.
<<Researchers of William COLEMAN of VA........do you know if a branch of
your VA COLEMAN'S went to TN, ca 1800-1811? Family letters say Obediah
COLEMAN, (my gr, gr, grandfather) b. 1808-1811, came to TN as one of the
youngest in a bunch of COLEMAN'S from VA. Obediah named his first son
Will. If naming patterns hold true, Obediah's father "could" have been
Will, or William. I'm still looking for the parents of Obediah!! I know
Obediah was in Bedford Co TN because his three sons were born there
......1834, 1836, 1838. ANY help would be most welcome. Will share
family info from Obediah down. Peace. Barb in FL>>
