Regarding the people researching New York Coleman lines. How far back are you
talking about? My Colemans are suspected of having come from New York in
1700s.
Mary Coleman
Below is four generations of my family, starting with the earliest known
individual. I have come across information regarding an allied family
that has led to the conclusion about John COLEMAN who married Frances
HARRIS in Warren Co., NC. It is a strong possibility that this john is
tied to the Daniel Coleman who died in Wilkes Co., Georgia in 1784 and
to the Daniel Coleman who died in Warren Co., NC in 1777. That would
make John's parents Daniel and Unity Coleman.
Also the information regarding 2. William Coleman is drawn from
information in Barbour Co. AL records where three of his nephews went to
live. It may be because William had already moved there shortly around
the 1840 census. This part of Barbour Co.,AL would eventually form
Bullock Co. in 186(1)? around the Midway area.
Thanks for any leads or corrections and for posting this on the list.

Willis Coleman lived Hosmer(Glezen),Pike co. In. married Mary around
1890 they are my grGrandparents. They had 10 children among them my
Grandfather Curtis who married Mary Mcroberts and lived in
Princeton,Gibson,IN.
My mother has told me much about my grandparents but at my
grgrandparents I've stalled.
Census says Willis was born July 1862 in Mo. but cemetery book(Oak Hill)
says born 1859.
Know very little about his wife Mary, 1900 census says she was born in
1872 in INDIANA and same cemetery book has her listed as Mary E. born
1871.
Willis and Curtis both were married before when, where and to who I don't
know.
Other children were Bessie, Ira, Neavil (last known to live in
Ohio),Ival, Addis, Gladys and Nellie

In "The Colemans of North Hamilton County", by Cleveland C. Yarborough,
Jackson Coleman is reported to have married Casannah Pickett in the late
1830's. She was born in North Carolina about 1824 (very young bride!). I
am looking for any descendants of these two. The reference cited listed
four children:
NANCY J. COLEMAN, born about 1839, in Georgia,
ELIZA A. COLEMAN, born about 1841, in Tennessee,
CASSY E. COLEMAN, born about 1848, in Tennessee, and
RACHAEL M. COLEMAN, born about 1850, in Tennessee.
If you have any information on any of these AFTER 1850, I'd very much like
to hear from you. The ref cited reported that the family may have moved
west after 1850, but no record of them is known.

Dear Joyce,
I have PARKERs in Mississippi in the 1800's, in Simpson Co., MS, may have

There was a Doctor S. Coleman, born 1846, who was the son of Isaac Coleman
and Mary Evans. I don't know where he lived, who he married or his children's
names, but he was not a physician. "Doctor" was his given name.
Could this be the one you mentioned?
Mary Coleman
Richmond, Virginia
Trying to locate information about my grandparents Frank Coleman in Camden
County, GA
during 1920's, he was married to a Georgia Brown. He was born in
Kingsland, Ga and my grandmother
was born in St. Marys, Georgia.
Any information will be appreciated. thank you.

John COLEMAN was granted 243 acres of land in the second District of
Bedford Co.TN in May 1809. This was recorded in Bedford Co in Dec. 1810.
Is anyone researching this John COLEMAN? I would like to find out who his
parents and siblings are to see if he "fits" in with my Coleman's of
early Bedford Co. Thanks. Barb in FL

I hope I am doing this right.
Peggy, it was a common practice for people to give their children the
mother's maiden name as a middle name. At least one child and sometimes
more than one.
I am looking for the family of Elizabeth Coleman who married Moses
Copeland. I do not know for sure where or what part of MS. - or for
sure it was in MS. The had a son named Thomas Coleman Copeland and he
then had children with the middle name of Coleman.
I would appreciate an information you could share on the Colemans.

Hello,
I am curious about the name COLEMAN, specifically in/near Church Hill
(Jefferson County) Mississippi. My great-grandmother (1866-1967) had a
sister named Juliet Coleman Allein.
Nothing in my research has indicated that I have any Colemans in my
lineage, although other siblings in the Allein family all seem to have
family surnames as their middle names.
I know there were a number of Colemans in Jefferson County, including a
Doctor Coleman. Was just wonderiing about the likelihood of Juliet
being named after him, if he was by chance the one who delivered her
when she was born. I think at least one of the sisters of her mother
married a Coleman, also. Thanks,
Margaret Allein Dyas (Peggy)

I have some first names that are family names my Coleman and Boone family
these names are 'Quay', 'Kerr', 'Finesse', 'Fine' and 'Wylie'. Since I am at
a brick wall I will ask has anyone found these names, I know Finesse can be
spelled other was. One family of mine had both a Finesse and a Fine as sons.
Any information is welcome Thank You, Alicia
Hi--
In my VAN BRUNT-LUCKEY family (the former from early Ulster and Orange
Counties, NY the latter from Westchester and Orange, NY) I have an
individual named Roe COLEMAN Van Brunt. I can figure out the "Roe" part,
probably short for Roeloff, a common family name. But the Coleman part has
me stumped.
I have seen it suggested that COLEMAN is actually a Dutch name. Is it? Are
there any Coleman researchers out there who can enlighten me on how it
evolved, and where this family originated in NY? Or somewhere else?
Thanks, Maureen
Hello, I am Alicia and I live in TX. My Coleman family moved to Tarrent and
Parker CO's in TX around 1880's. I have from Joshua Coleman to William
Samuel to Finesse Elmo to Joan Coleman and me. Joshua is a major brickwall
for me and several others. Jesse, Obediah, John, Joshua, Jack-a lot of
Coleman families at loose ends. We wouldn't be working together if it wasn't
for one family verbal history-A family of Colemans from NC, SC, VA. to the
areas around Flat Creek Bedford CO and Lincoln CO. TN several had J names.
To my knowledge no one can prove or disprove this information. I know my
family had kin in TX when they moved here, what I don't know is who the kin
was, or where they went. Now when I list the wives names I think some
people turn me off. Joshua[ Jack] married Sarah Ann Byrd 1st, Jane Floyd
Bearden 2nd. Samuel mar. Sarah Ann Boone [niece of Jane Floyd Bearden
Coleman. ] Joshua had a large family but several of his & Sally's died and
his and Jane's children died from accidents, illness and his oldest son John
died in the war. Any information is welcome. Alicia
