Hi! We're new to this group and very happy to join. We're also
somewhat new to our genealogy journey. What we'd really really really
like to find out is about my husband's gg grandfather's (Joseph Coleman,
b. County Tipperary Ireland 1828) parents, siblings, etc. Family lore
has it that Joseph and a brother, who were possibly in their teens,
stowed away on a ship to America and were separated upon arrival. We
don't know when they arrived or where, only that Joseph ended up in
Melrose, Iowa ("Little Ireland") and we have a lot of the info from
there. Any and all info you'd like to share would be much appreciated -
and we'd be glad to reciprocate. Happy Hunting & God Bless!

I have been searching for the parents of CALVERT M. COLEMAN for so MANY years.
He married SARAH WESTFALL in Dec. 1863, Belleville, Michigan.
Census information includes these clues:
He was born in New York state around 1840-42;
His parents (in one Census) were born in Ireland;
Hhis father (in another Census) was born in New York; mother in Vermont
His death certificate gives the name of his father as Patrick Coleman; his
mother as Bridget Hand. The death certificate information was NOT provided by
a family member, so it may or may not be true.
Does anyone out there have information about Calvert M. Coleman, who seems to
have dropped from the sky into Michigan in 1863? For him to have been born in
New York state in the early 1840s, his parents must have immigrated from
Ireland BEFORE the potato famiine and that large group of Irish immigrants.
Thanks for suggestions, clues, whatever!

Shirley,
There was a Wyatt Coleman listed as head of a household in Rutherford Co.,
TN, U.S. Census of 1830, page 350.
There was a Wyat Coleman listed as head of a household in Williamson Co.,
TN, U. S. Census of 1840, page 119.
Hope one of these helps point you in the right direction. Your Wyatt being
around 19 in 1830 may have just missed the census by not be head of a
household quite yet. That is to say that though he fathered a child by
1832, he still may have missed being head of a house in 1830.

Would really love to know who the parents of Rebecca Jane DICKSON were. Can
anyone help?????? This has been a very frustrating search effort for so many
of us as there is so much information on the HERRINGTON lineage and other
groups connecting and yet absolutely nothing that surfaces regarding Rebecca
Jane DICKSON. I feel so terrible for her that we can find out nothing about
her.
Also, there is a Jeremiah PIERCE who married Jane STUCKEY, daughter of Simon
STUCKEY, brother of the above mentioned Harriet/Harriett STUCKEY, children of
John STUCKEY. Does anyone know anything about the family of Jeremiah PIERCE?
I believe that it is most likely that he connects somehow to my 3rd great
grandmother, Elizabeth PIERCE, born: 1790 in SC, who is mentioned above.
Looking forward to hearing from anyone.
In advance, I thank you.
Sincerely,
Bellinda Myrick - Barnett
For Belinda Myrick-Barnett: The Coleman's and Tucker's of Amelia Co, VA had
close ties in early 1700's or so. The only daughter of Wm. Coleman of
Raleigh Parish, Amelia Co VA, Frances, married Robert Tucker, Jr.(he was born
in 1706). Of their many children, there was a daughter Rachel, but both
Robert & Frances died by the late 1760's, so their Rachel is not the one
you're looking for, I don't think. However, you might consider this family
as a source, rather than the Mobjack Bay Coleman's.

I am looking for information about the family of Christian Coleman who
was born abt 1804 in VA. This family migrates to Middle TN-Robertson Co
area.I do not know when they came to TN. Christian Coleman marries
Elizabeth Adcock, b abt 1810 VA, in Davidson Co, TN in 1835. They are
listed on the 1850 census of Robertson CO, TN with children: Joseph,
Chapman, James K, Mary Jane, Tennessee, and Virginia.
I wonder if he, Christian Coleman, is from the line of Samuel Coleman
and Anna Mourning Christian of Goochland Co, VA.
I appreciate any help you can give me on this family.
Thank you,
Sherri
Hello,
First of all, regarding the WARNER and/or WASHINGTON lines, I have been
wondering whether or not there is any direct connection/marriage between the
ancestors or descendants of (Sir) John PAYNE, born: abt. 1615 in England,
migrated to Old Rappahannock, VA, and his daughter, Margaret PAYNE, married
John JENNINGS, born: abt. 1633 in England, migrated to Old Rappahannock, VA.
Their son, William JENNINGS, Sr., born: 1668, married Mary WILLOUGHBY, born:
abt. 1670, parents: ??, (my 7th great grandparents,) and I descend from
their son, William JENNINGS, Jr., born: 1695 - 1700, died: 1733 in Richmond
Co., VA, who married Ann KELLY/KELLEY, born: bet. 1695 - 1700, died in 1734
in Richmond Co., VA, (her brother was probably Alexander KELLY/KELLEY, could
have been related in some other way and they might be related to Alexander
DONIPHAN....speculation only at this time.)
William JENNINGS, Jr., (my 6th great grandfather,) had a brother named
Augustine JENNINGS, born: 1708 in Richmond Co., Lunenberg Parish, VA, died:
1778 in Fauquier Co., Hamilton Parish, VA, who married Hannah WILLIAMS, born:
1710 in VA, died: ?? in Fauquier Co., VA. (She is apparently related to my
Tabitha WILLIAMS, born: 1766 in Fauquier Co., VA, and her father: George
WILLIAMS, (Colonel?/Rev. War,) who married Catherine "Caty" ??. I was just
sent information the other day.....but have been working on other lines
extensively since then and need to go back and find what the connection was
or if it was just surmised that there was one....but I believe there was
something that came in and I am just about to start searching more intently
on this WILLIAMS line.....which is in my father's family.....as well as
seeing if it connects in any way to the WILLIAMS lineage of my mother's
family.....the earliest info I have there is my 2nd great grandfather,
William WILLIAMS, born: abt. 1790 in Maryland, who married Elizabeth ?,
(born in Ohio,) and before 1840 they were living in Catahoula Parish,
Louisiana....I think as early as 1820, and after 1840 they were in Franklin
Parish, Louisiana....possibly in Liddieville where later family lived and
died including their daughter, Clarissa "Clara" WILLIAMS, born: abt. 1840,
who married my great grandfather, Hudson/Hutson H. SLAUGHTER, born: 1844 in
Green Co., AL.
Back to the Augustine JENNINGS who married Hannah WILLIAMS. I am checking to
find more information about Hannah WILLIAMS but, also, suspect that there is
a connection with Augustine JENNINGS being named Augustine and Augustine
WARNER, Jr. and/or Sr.. Augustine JENNINGS' brother, William JENNINGS, Jr.,
died in 1733 and his wife died in 1734....they were both in the early to
mid-30's at the time of their deaths a year apart.....all of their children
were under age, I believe. In the will, my 5th great grandfather, Edward
Salley JENNINGS, was initially 'bound' out to his uncle Augustine
JENNINGS.....possibly may have later been 'bound' out to a William JORDAN,
(who may be the father, grandfather or otherwise a relative to Rachel JORDAN,
my 4th great grandmother, who married Edward Salley JENNINGS's son, John
JENNINGS, (Rev. War,) born: abt. 1748 in Richmond Co., VA. John JENNINGS and
wife, Rachel JORDAN/JORDON, were in South Carolina during the Revolutionary
War, along with two of his brothers, I believe, James JENNINGS and Edward
Salley JENNINGS, Jr.. Anyway.....trying to find any information on the wife
of Edward Salley JENNINGS who may have been Sarah MORE/MOORE. There is a
MOORE that was Governor in South Carolina at that time and it is possible
that there is a connection...but just speculation. Really need any
information whatsoever on this possible MOORE connection as no one that I
know has anything on this ancestral grandmother.
Back to the Augustine connection.....regarding the above.....Edward Salley
JENNINGS' son, John JENNINGS, and wife, Rachel JORDAN/JORDON, (appears to be
descended somehow from William JORDAN/JORDON who was in Richmond Co., VA in
1734,) were the parents of Bailey JENNINGS, born: abt. 1789 in VA, who
married Kitty EARLE, born: abt. 1790, daughter of the above mentioned Tabitha
WILLIAMS, born: 1766, daughter of Catherine "Caty" ?, (could she be a
EWINGS/EWEN???) and her husband, the above mentioned George WILLIAMS,
(Colonel?/Rev. War?,) (probably related to the above mentioned Hannah
WILLIAMS, wife of Augustine JENNINGS,) and Tabitha WILLIAMS' husband: Samuel
EARLE, IV, (Sgt./Rev. War,) born: 1760 in Fauquier Co., VA, (son of (Major)
Samuel EARLE, III, born: 1692, (son of Phillis BENNETT, (daughter of John
BENNETT, no further information on him yet,) and husband: Samuel EARLE, II,
(son of Bridget HALE/HAYLES, (need more info on her,) and Samuel EARLE, I,
(son of Mary SYMONS, (need more information on her as well,) and (Sir) John
EARLE, (son of (Sir) Richard EARLE,) and (Major) Samuel EARLE, III's 2nd
wife, Elizabeth HOLBROOK, born: abt. 1733, (daughter of Randolph "Randall"
HOLBROOK/HOLDBROOK and 2nd wife Jannet PATTISON - CONYERS, (1st husband was
Henry CONYERS and she was his 2nd wife.)
The above mentioned (Major) Samuel EARLE, III, born: 1692, had another son
also named Samuel EARLE, IV, born: 1727, with his 1st wife: Anna SORRELL.
They, also, had a daughter named Anna Sorrell EARLE, who married Charles
BUCK, I, whose aunt, Letitia SORRELL, married Charles BUCK, I, after Anna
Sorrell EARLE died. Letitia SORRELL was the sister of Anna SORRELL, (Anna
Sorrell EARLE's mother,) and they were the daughters of Thomas SORRELL.
The above mentioned Kitty EARLE and husband, Bailey JENNINGS, (who married in
Dec 1811 in Christian County, KY, later moved to Caldwell Co., KY and then to
Mississippi, first to Covington Co., MS and later to Simpson Co., MS,) were
the parents of my 2nd great grandmother, Sarah "Sally" JENNINGS, born:
1821/22 in Covington Co., MS, and she was the 2nd wife of Jerimiah "Jerry"
PARKER, born: 1795 in Maryland, (parents: ??, desperately trying to find
information on his family, and these PARKERs may be connected to the other
lines mentioned herein and I figure they have a connection to the surname of
PARKER,) and they were the parents of my great grandfather, Spencer B.
PARKER, born: 1859, who was the 2nd or 3rd husband of my great grandmother,
Rachael Moranda "Randa/Randy" LEWIS, born: abt. 1851 in Jones Co., MS, (also
known as Moranda COLEMAN at the time she married her 1st or 2nd husband:
Wesley BRIGHT, and then when she married her 2nd or 3rd husband, Spencer B.
PARKER,) and she was daughter of Harriett ELLZEY, (parents were reportedly
??Mary COLLINS??, and Evan ELLZEY,) and John LEWIS, born: abt. 1820 in Jones
Co., MS, son of Nancy/Nanny COPELAND, (daughter of Rachael TUCKER, (parents:
??, thought to be descended somehow from (Captain) Robert TUCKER and
Elizabeth (COLEMAN?) but not sure how exactly,) and Nancy/Nanny COPELAND's
husband: Howell LEWIS, born: bet. 1782 - 1788 in Granville Co., NC,
parents: ??
It is not sure who were the parents of Howell LEWIS, born: bet. 1782 - 1788
in Granville Co., NC. There is speculation that they may have been Betsy
COLEMAN, (possibly Mary Elizabeth "Betsy" COLEMAN,) daughter of Robert
COLEMAN, (parents: ??,) (probably of the Mobjack Bay COLEMANs but I need
more information,) (Betsy's 2nd husband is said to have been Edmund TAYLOR,)
and Betsy's 1st husband: Howell LEWIS, II, born: 1759 in Goochland Co., VA,
died: abt. 1790 in Granville Co., NC, (son of Mary Isabella WILLIS and
Howell LEWIS, I, born: 1731 in Goochland Co., VA, died: 1813 in Granville
Co., VA, son of Mary HOWELL, (daughter of John HOWELL, Sr.,) and Mary's
husband: (Colonel) Charles Lilburne (Of the Byrd) LEWIS, Sr..
Mary Isabella WILLIS was the daughter of Mildred LEWIS, (sister of the above
mentioned (Colonel) Charles Lilburne (Of the Byrd) LEWIS, Sr., and they are
both believed by many researchers to be the children of Elizabeth WARNER,
(daughter of Mildred READE and Augustine WARNER, Jr.) and John (Councillor)
LEWIS.
Mildred LEWIS married husband # 1: John HOWELL, Jr., (brother of the
aforementioned Mary HOWELL and son of John HOWELL, Sr., ) and Mildred LEWIS
married husband # 2: John BROWN, (M.D.) and then Mildred LEWIS married
husband # 3: Henry WILLIS and they were the parents of Mary Isabella WILLIS
and after the death of Mildred LEWIS (HOWELL BROWN WILLIS) then Henry WILLIS
married the cousin of Mildred LEWIS who was Mildred Warner WASHINGTON.
(Henry WILLIS's 1st wife was Anna ALEXANDER.) (This is according to the
information that I have.)
The will for Howell LEWIS, II, born: 1759 in Goochland Co., VA, died: abt.
1790 in Granville Co., NC, did not mention any children in his will. He and
Betsy COLEMAN married in abt. 1780. I am not sure when the will was written
but since his date is simply estimate at abt. 1790 it would seem quite
possible that they might have had a child after his will was written and that
the child could have been my 3rd great grandfather, Howell LEWIS, (III,)
born: bet. 1782 - 1788 in Granville Co., NC. There's just nothing to
substantiate it yet. There are other researchers that think he is descended
from (Colonel) Charles Lilburne (Of the Byrd) LEWIS, Sr. and Mary HOWELL but
through a different branch.
Anyway, back to the beginning with my question about connections with the
JENNINGS and PAYNE lines with the Augustine WARNER line. I know that there
are many different marriages that connect over the years but I'm looking
specifically to find if there might have been a direct connection between
Augustine WARNER and Augustine JENNINGS, perhaps, through the family of Mary
WILLOUGHBY as she is completely unknown to most of us. Does anyone have any
info on any WILLOUGHBY family that was related to Augustine WARNER in any way
in Virginia or, perhaps, in England before they came over?
As you can see there are several questions that I am attempting to find
answers for so....if anyone can help, I thank you in advance.
Sincerely,
Bellinda Myrick - Barnett
I know my great great grandfather was Joshua C. Coleman b. 1823 TN d. 1883.
His wives were my gr gr grandmother Sarah Ann[Sallie] Bird/Byrd b. 1826 TN.
After her death he married Jane Floyd Bearden I read on the 1850 photo copy
of 1850 census record of his home and family with one more a Nancy Coleman
age 66 b. SC. In searching what we can get we find a Jordan Coleman married
to a Nancy Anderson b. ca 1780 SC and a James Coleman married to a Nancy
Brown b. ca 1780 but born in VA. I need records of births of all the
children of couples.

Hi Mary,
I can't help you on this one, so I hope someone else can. I am pretty sure
that my Colemans do not decsend from Pocahontas (it would be neat if they
did). Mine are England Colemans but for the simple fact that I love the
story of Pocahontas (and I don't mean the Disney version) it is cool that
the Coleman name is associated with it. Take care and good luck in all your
searches.
Penny

Subject: Another Coleman-Pocahontas connection?
Hi Penny and list. I ran accross another connection, which I didn't document
and I don't remember where I found it. Perhaps one of you on the list knows
of it?
I had heard that Peter Coleman, Sr. , b. ca 1740, who married Abigail Jayne,
was a Pocahontas descendant, so I did some searching. What I found was that
a
descendant (son or grandson probably) of Peter's had married a woman whose
first husband was the Pocahontas descendant. So, the children that the
"Coleman" was raising were Pocahontas descendants, but the Coleman
stepfather
was not. Anyone know their names?
