Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Thanks to everyone who answered my C-I-L question, and helped me out as to
where I could find out more information about my grandfather Coleman's
company. It was much appreciated.

This came from another list and might interest those of you with ancestors in TX, VA, or the NE states:
Melanie Atkins
College Station, TX
The LDS has made available on microfiche the holdings of the Library of Congress collection of pre-20th century land ownership maps. This set contains 1449 county maps relating to 1041 counties, concentrate mostly in the Northeast and North Central states, and VA, CA and TX. Approximately one-third of all US counties are represented in the collection. The great majority of the maps were prepared between 1840 and 1900.
Many of the maps contain sketches of homesteads and family members around the margins, some have portions of wills and heir information (incl: the married names of daughters), and the progression of land ownership over the years. A few contain Indexes..
The fiche begin with number 6079238, and run through to 6081181. A listing can be found in the LDS catalogue under United States-Maps, and under United States-Land and Property.
Previously, copies of these maps were available throught the Library of Congress for between $50 and $75 EACH. Now, you can xerox them from the 15 cent fiche....

Dear Dan:
The only C.I.L. that I am aware of is C.I.L. Paints. Maybe there is a paint
manufacturing company in Hamilton. Maybe others have a different theory but
that is what immediately came to my mind. Hope you are succesful in your
search. I also have Coleman in my family but back in England in the early
1800's. Where did your Coleman family come from? Kerry

My grandfather Jesse Gordon Coleman worked for CIL for many many years at a
company called C.I.L. in Hamilton. Does anyone know what CIL did? What
kind of business was it?
Is it possible that CIL may have kept records, ie. photographs, or articles
on their employees?
Thanks for any information.
Dan

Hello,
I recently started a new family website which has a very large family tree,
includes my 2 Coleman lines. This site is by invitation only, and if
interested please email me for your request. My Colemans were primarily from
Fairfield Co., SC, to Franklin Co., GA., and Lawrence Co., TN, eventually
ending up in Searcy Co., ARK.

Hey there fellow COLEMAN researchers, I have updated my website a little,
still doesn't hold too many clues but for those interested please check it
out, thanks. I will hopefully have some new information before Christmas
and maybe someone out there will recognize something about my family and
make a connection. Hope to hear from you soon!!!!

Hi, I just checked with Higginson Books, Amazon Books, and the Library
of Congress, trying to find a copy of Family Potpourri by Jean
Reese...no luck.
I went to my local library and filled out a form to borrow the book
through interlibrary loan. I had to pay the postage. It took several
weeks to find a library that was willing to loan it. I did not write
down the publisher, etc. Sorry about that.
The book has a photograph of Judge Coleman, the painting that hangs in
the Chatham Courthouse, I believe.
Happy Hunting!

I happened upon a marriage between Thomas Coleman and Rebecca Claiborne
while thumbing through a periodical searching for something else entirely
and thought it wasn't mine anyway so I didn't copy it.
Now all I seem to want to do is leaf through page by page all the 100 some
volumes of the virginia Magazine of History and Biography to find it again.

Looking for information on a Mary Ann Coleman who married George Boys in
1822 in Willesborough, Kent, England. Any information on this family would
be appreciated. Some of their children carried the Coleman name as a middle
name such as Edward Coleman Boys. Thanks.
Kerry
My grandfather John T. Coleman was born in Illinois. He moved to Texas in
the
late 1800s. He married Ada Williams, also of Illinois. He had four
children, one
being Milton William Coleman b. 1890 in Texas, Probably in Ellis County.
Any
connection that can be made would be greatly appreciated.
