Francis Coleman, according to information in James P.
Coleman's book, "The Robert Coleman Family, from Virginia
to Texas", etc., was born in Virginia in 1744.
He moved to South Carolina where he received a Royal
land grant from Gov. Montague, later sold out to Henry
Macon and went to Jefferson Co., Ga., where he owned more
land as his family continued to grow.
Documentation shows he sought and received permission
in 1799 to leave Jefferson Co., Ga., and travel through the
Creek Indian Territory to the Tom Bickby Country in Spanish
West Florida. (He bought land there and settled in what is
now Washington County, Ala., in a bend of the Tombigbee
River. He died there in 1823.
There are two unsolved mysteries related to this Francis
Coleman. I hope someone can help unravel them.
MYSTERY #1: So far no one has come up with Francis's
wife's last name. She is always listed as Margaret ______ .
Some say she was a Mobley; some say she was a Daniel.
There are some who steadfastly declare she was a Mobley;
same for Daniel.
MYSTERY #2: I have read rumors that Francis Coleman
was a captain in the British Army during the Revolution who
cast his lot with the Americans. James P. Coleman, author
of the above mentioned book, wrote to London asking for
information on this. The reply he received was that he would
have to furnish the name of the British Army unit to get an
answer. Question: Does anyone know what regiments King
George sent over here during the Revolution or how I can
find out? Thanks.

Hello COLEMAN researchers,
I'm looking for the Farish COLEMAN who had a daughter Rebecca Kay born
abt 1800 & marr. James JONES 1819 in Mason County, Ky. There is a marr.
bond for this marr. signed by a Daniel COLEMAN who I believe may have
been the bondsman. A special note in the Mason County Clerk's office
indicates that Rebecca's father was Farish COLEMAN.
I have a Farish born 1751 Caroline County, Va. parents were: Thomas
COLEMAN & Sarah FARISH. I can't seem to find a wife or children for this
Farish.
I have another Farish born 1768 Spotsylvania, Va. parents were: Thomas
COLEMAN & Rececca K. (unknown). This Farish marr. Elizabeth CAMP. Was he
maybe the son of Thomas & Sarah? It seems this might be the Farish who
had the dau. Rebecca Kay.
I would like a reply from anyone having data for any of these COLEMAN'S.
Thanks in advance for your help,
Ed Jones New Palestine, In.
Sarah COLEMAN was born 27 May 1789 in New Jersey.
She married Jacob MYERS in Jefferson County, Ohio in 1803.
I think they lived for a time in Belmont County, Ohio (Richland
Township) and then moved to Worthington Twp. and/or Mansfield,
Richland County, Ohio.
They had many children.
Sarah died in Bertram, Linn Co., Iowa and is reported to be buried in
Nauvoo, IL. Nauvoo is a Mormon settlement across the border from Iowa.
One of Sarah & Jacob'd daughters had married a Mormon named Warren
Foote.
Sarah and Jacob's son, Jeremiah MYERS, is my great-great grandfather.
Oh, Sarah's parents were John COLEMAN and Hanna FARNSWORTH.
This is all I know about my COLEMAN family.

I was wondering if anyone know about this Internet organization called
Ancestor Roll of Honor? I wanted to know if it is associated with any
other organizations and if it is legit. There are plenty of hoax's being
pushed and I wanted to know if anyone knows of this organization. I
qualify to join, but do not want to join a hoax. Thanks for the feedback!

Christina and Kelly,
The name Scituate, MA appears in the excerpts of a book on the Barnstable, MA
families. The name derived from an Indian village names. I have the five pages from
the book that talk about the Colemans there.
These scan in OK but they don't OCR well at all. I could fax them to those who
send a request to me at:
coleman(a)ro.com
(Don't send requests to this list).

Hi Christina,
There is a book on the Colemans from MA. I obtained it on microfilm on
an interlibrary loan at my library. I don't remember the name of the book
but remember the name Huldah in the index, because my Colemans have strange
names as well (Selkirk and Hollan). I didn't find my Colemans in the book.
Maybe someone can remember the name of the book.

My ggg-grandparents were Thomas Arrington s/o Samuel and Millie Coleman d/o
James. They married 27 Sept 1791 in Franklin Co., Va. My question is: Is
Mary Anna Cocke Millie's mothe and James' wife? Millies brother John Coleman
married Martha Arrington. Martha was Thomas' sister. Would be greatly for
any help. Thanks in advance.

I have a James Coleman in the Person-Caswell-Orange Co., NC from 1784 - abt.
1800. He is surrounded there by "English" Colemans - (Richards, Johns,
Daniels, Spilsbys). I have tried every angle to connect him with them, but
just can not. Our family has passed down that James was "Scotch-Irish." He
& his brothers headed "west" when he stopped in Orange Co., NC, married and
lived there until early 1800's when he and his family headed for Tennessee.
I have no idea where the brothers ended up. I have been to both NC and to
SC trying to hook him up there. Now - I would love to hear from anyone with
Scotch-Irish Coleman's in Virginia in the early to mid 1700's. I am in Ohio
and would at least like to find a starting point before I make my trip to
Virginia. Thanks, Linda Coleman
