"THE COLEMAN FAMILY OF MOBJACK BAY, VIRGINIA" is being printed in a
limited number of copies for a cost of $62.50 for priority mail, or
$59.85 book rate (books will be boxed for mailing). The two-volume book
is 945 pages indexed, with 4277 numbered descendants (plus allied
families). Sections include Definitions, Headrights, Virginia County
Boundary Maps, Early Colemans in Virginia and Missing Links. The book's
subject is Robert Coleman who came to Virginia from England in 1638, his
wife Elizabeth Grizzell, and their six known children: Thomas, Robert,
Joseph, Grizell, Daniel and John.
In Judge S.B. Coleman's 1959 manuscripts, he expressed the wish that
Coleman researchers would add to and/or correct his work. Forty years
later, "THE COLEMAN FAMILY OF MOBJACK BAY, VIRGINIA" does just that.
The book is full of new information previously unpublished. By studying
the identified Coleman lines, patterns of migration and other
information, researchers may be able to place their own line in this
family. To order the two-volume copy of "THE COLEMAN FAMILY OF MOBJACK
BAY, VIRGINIA", please send a check or money order and mailing
instructions to Sherrianne Nicol, 6930 32nd Ave. W., Bradenton, FL
34209-5908. (e-mail pr9toes(a)gte.net)

I am attempting to learn who M. Coleman in Smith County, 1840, is. Do
you happen to have any idea if some of your Colemans settled around
there?

Paula, my Coleman family was in Creal Springs in 1869 and Crab Orchard in
1871. Both towns in Williamson Co. IL. They moved to Springfield, MO
in1877, then to Pleasant Hope, in Polk Co, MO. My family lore says seven
Coleman brothers, all with first names starting with "J", settled in Flat
Creek Lincoln Co. (formerlly Bedford) TN in or around 1810. Though the
story is unvarified, I know my Coleman line is from one of those seven.
Anyone have such a tale among their family stories? Thanks, Barb

Sarah RISNER COLEMAN married William M. SIMMONS in Wayne County, TN in

Looking for ancestral information on Thomas P Coleman. He was born August 4, 1783, in Harford County, Maryland. He married Ester McClary on September 24, 1806, in Orange County, North Carolina. He died September 26, 1833 in Clairborne County, Tennessee.
I have extensive descendant information, but can't identify Thomas's parents in Harford County. They may have come from Maine? Would appreciate any information.
Thanks,

Bye Mary in CA
My first recorded Coleman is John Coleman born 1761 in New York City,
died 1845 Southport, Wisconsin. His father is reputed to be John
Coleman born in Ireland. He married Rachael Barden (1768-1858). They
had about 15 children. Those known by name are: Hannah, Jacob, Mary,
John, Rachael, William, Samuel, Elizabeth, Sarah, and Stephen. The
extended family was in Canaan and Greene, New York areas until 1835
when they moved to Conneaunt, Ohio. By 1844 the extended family of
Colemans, Bardens, Tubs, VanHorns, St.Clairs, Byingtons , and Herricks
began to arrive in Southport, (now Kenosha) Wisconsin. I descend from
Stephen who married Sarah VanHorn. Their living children were George
W.(m Susan Slusser), Jane (m John B. Parrott), Mary (m James Hay
Bucknam - this is my line), Sarah (m John Parrott - a cousin of Jane's
John B. Parrott), John (m Vilroy Coleman), Homer (m Ida May Hamilton),
Charles (unmarried) and Jennet (Emma Jeanette m Daniel Wetzel Saxton).
By 1858 the Stephen Colemans are in Dubuque County, Iowa. They move
back to Wisconsin and then on to Nebraska by 1880. Stephen dies in
Arcadia, Nebraska in 1888. They move on to Idaho, Oregon and
Washington. Sarah died in 1903 in Union, Oregon.
Be delighted to hear from any Coleman researchers. Barb
