I have a Thomas W. COLEMAN born 26June1850 in Philadelphia, PA and died
4September1927 also in Philadelphia, PA. I cannot trace his family any
further back even though I know that his mother and father were born in PA.
My big wish is to find some kind of wedding license for him and his wife,
Martha HAINES. Their first child was born in 1872 but that's as close as I
can come to a firm date. They also had a son (Thomas W. Coleman, Jr) who
lived with them on & off which makes separating them a bit difficult. Is
anyone out there connected??? Honey
My most difficult Coleman is my great-great-grandfather, Emory, b.
August 24, 1809, in Newburgh or Cornwall, NY. He d. April 26, 1879 in
Carbon, Adams County, Iowa.
Emory m. Fidelia Clemania G. Butler in Danville, Ill., in 1842. Their
children are: Henry E., Samuel Harrison, Asaph, Edwin, Annis and Julia.
Henry m. Elizabeth "Jane" Bixler.
I believe Emory's father's name was Thomas, his mother's maiden name,
Nelson, and he was related to Thomas of Nantucket who arrived here
aboard the James in 1635, however, I can't verify any of this.
Emory is listed in the 1850 Illinois census in Vermilion County where
Henry was born in 1846, but I haven't found any other mention of him.
Would appreciate any help.

Hi,
I am searching for proof of Janett Coleman parents. Janett(Jane) was
married to the Revolutionary War soldier John Allen. John died in Orange
Co., NC in 1812. He
was born about 1750 in Va(?). Janett died about 1840 in Orange Co., NC.
I have heard that her parents might have been Samuel Coleman and
Sarah (Lyons) Coleman or Samuel Coleman and Sarah Coleman, Samuel's
first cousin.
I appreciate your help.

My most difficult Coleman is my only Coleman - I have never discovered any
of her family at all. She was Lavinia Coleman, who married Thomas Wright,
probably in Virginia, about 1776 or 7. They migrated to Shelby County
Kentucky where Thomas was killed by Indians in 1783. Lavinia married a
Yocum, later divorced him, and moved to Washington County Indiana with her
son, Asa Wright. Several years work have turned up no information whatsoever
on this couple.

Here's my brick wall:
Noah Coleman Jr. is on the 1850 Census (Venice Township, Seneca Co, OH)
as being born in NY. He's listed as being 26 so he was b.~1824 or

I have many difficult COLEMANS.
My grandfather, John Hiram COLEMAN was born in Cumberland, Allegany County
Maryland on the 12 Dec.1849 and was orphaned sometime before the 1860 census.
His death certificate lists his parents as Jesse Hiram COLEMAN and Margaret
KELLY born about 1831 both in Maryland.
Being orphaned at such a young age, he didn't remember much about his family,
but was thought to have 3 brothers and a sister. Any help running these down
would be appreciated.
On the 1850 Allegany Co. census he and his parents were living in the house-
hold of Jeremiah and Liza Ann COLEMN born about 1805 and 1796. Jeremiah was
born in PA and is shown on the 1830 census as living in Cumberland, but is
not shown on the 1840 census, but is shown again on the 1850 census. Did they
just miss him?
I have been unable to find any think on this family other than the census. They are not
on any census after the 1850 of Allegany Co. MD other than my grandfather John
Hiram is shown on the 1900 census of Clay Co. Missouri.
I have a web page at http://angelfire.com/co/dcoleman/index.html that may show more
of the dates.

Something for Coleman researchers to remember about Kentucky:
"Originally part of Virginia, the land that is now Kentucky was formed
into Kentucky county, Virginia in 1776. Four years later it was divided
into the Fayette, Jefferson, and Lincoln counties of Virginia. It became
the fifteenth of the United States in 1792."

Chris,
I'm sure you have this info but will pass it on anyway. The info comes
from "The Old Free State" "Lunenburg Cousins" by Bell.
Henry Coleman secured a grant for 1000 acres in Elizabeth City Co
Va in 1632.
Henry had a son Richard Coleman who m. Rebecca Claiborn in 1654.
Richard and Rebecca had a son Robert whose wife is unknown but they
had least four children.
1. John Coleman

Gloucester Co Va
children:
1. Richard Coleman b. 1703 had a son John Coleman b. 1745
2. James Coleman b. 1722 wife Elizabeth. Also had a son John b. 1722

1. John Coleman
2. Henry Coleman
3. William Coleman
4. Thomas Coleman
5. James Coleman
6. Robert Coleman
7. Kate Coleman m. a Wagoner
8. Phoebe Coleman
I am not sure which Thomas Coleman it is but a Thomas Coleman b. 1679
m. Mary Lort b. 1683 d/o Richard Lort. Thomas' father was Robert Coleman
and mother was Ann Spilsby
children:
1. Richard Lort Coleman b. 1702

My most difficult Coleman is John Wesley. His tree follows. He died in
Decatur, Nancy moved to Pueblo, Colorado and lived with her son Alfred until
she died in 1906. I have a copy of her death certificate which tells me
nothing. I think John died in 1869 the year before Illinois started doing
death certificates. Would love to find out more about this couple. A
cemetery . . . another marriage . . . anything!

Mary and James were teachers and spoke German fluently. When son's John and
Ben were overseas in WWI, Mary had a dream and wrote down that John was in a

a hole. It is said that a couple of other times Mary had dreams that her
children were in trouble and in fact they were even when they were in another
state.
Notes for MARY ELIZABETH LUNDY:
Orphaned at age 7 after her mother and father died from taking care of others.
Her mother was well-to-do but the people they took care of took all the
wealth. Mary had to stay with others and work, but wouldn't stay if she
couldn't go to school.
When son's John and Ben were over seas in WWI, Mary had a clear dream and
wrote down that John was in a hole. When John returned he told her that he
was in a hole in a concentration camp. A couple of other times she also had
dreams about her children being in trouble and in fact they were -- even

John Coleman in Pennsylvania in 1790. Daniel and Charles were at the

manuscript mentions Daniel and Edward Mellor going bear hunting in
