Re: DAR Patriot Index, 1966
Daniel Coleman-there are 4 Daniels listed in VA (no county given) as follows--
COLEMAN
Daniel: b.1-21-1753 d 1817 m1 Mary Childs m2 Martha Cocke
Col VA
Daniel: b 6-7-1768 d 4-8-1860 m Anne Payne Harrison PS VA
Daniel, Jr: b bc 1746 d 1819 m X PS VA
Daniel: b -- d a2-6-1789 m X PS VA
Of these Daniel Colemans the first listed, Colonel Daniel COLEMAN, seems to
line up with Kay's Caroline Co., VA extracts, although the DODs seem to be
inconsistent. At the moment I think that the Colonel is the one for whom our
Daniel Coleman MULLINS, b. 1785, is named. Col. Daniel Coleman is
contemporanious with Daniel MULLINS, the father of Daniel Coleman MULLINS
The others do not show military service so are not likely to have the
rank/title of Colonel.
I will look each up at the DAR Library to sort it out.
Best regards,
Hugh

Hi,
In years of research, you are the first that may have a clue to the
Coleman ancestry. Following is part of the obit. from Richard E.
Coleman, born in Kent County, Maryland, January 9, 1828 and died at his
home near Duquoin, Harper Co., Kansas of la grippe, February 22, 1897.
HIS MOTHER AND FATHER BOTH DIED WHEN HE WAS AN INFANT, his brother,
LEMUEL COLEMAN raised him as one of his own children, bringing him to
Randolph Co, Illinios in August, 1840.
He married Miss Lucy Delaney December 8, 1852. Removed with his
family to Kansas in 1878. He leaves a wife, six sons and three
daughters to mourn his departure.....
There is more that I don't know than what I know. I assume that
Lemuel C. Coleman was probably born 1805-10, to make him old enough to
raise his baby brother. When Richard Elison moved to Kansas he also
brought Lemuel's wife and two of his children indicating to me that
Lemuel died in Illinois. Perhaps about 1871. I have found no record of
him in Kansas and he is not listed on the gravestone with his wife,
Sarah H. Surely, there were children between Lemuel and Richard E. but
I don't have a clue who they are. If I could prove who the parents
were, the rest would probably fall into place. In the 1850 Illinois
census, there is an Elison in Lemuel's household the right age to be
Richard E. From that I have assumed the E. in his name is Elison.
Perhaps this is the maiden name of the mother or a grandmother, or
whatever.
I am led to believe the name is Elison, not Ellison. My husband's
great aunt who married a son of Richard E. named her first son Chester
Van Elison Coleman, taking the Van from the mother's Van Dolah name.
With your information, it indicates that there must be a family
tie. I hope, hope, hope.
I will cherish anything that can put this to rest for me. I even joined
a Coleman organization that had hundreds in it and no one came forth
with any information leading to this elusive Coleman. It is sometimes
difficult to uproot a farm family. They farm the land, go to church,
shop in a little town, appear in a paper only when they die. Do nothing
to create a "stir" that may be recorded.

Elison, but maybe not, since Richard gave one of his son's a middle name
of Ellsworth.

9. Stella Elberta b 21 Jul 1873 IL d 05 Sep 1972 KS
m. John O. Quigg
Quigg was a professional photographer in Wichita,
KS Stella was nearly 100 when she died.
#6 Alice Blanche & William Taylor Van Dolah were my husband's
grandparents. Alice died at age 40 so only knew one grandchild who is
now in her 90s. They are buried in Greenwood cem. near their farm north
of Belmont in Kingman Co.
#1 William Samuel, wife, and most of their children are buried in
Eastside cem. in Hutchinson, Reno Co., KS, near where they farmed most
of their lives.
The rest of the above family are buried in a country cemetery west of
Duquoin, a spot in the road north of Harper, Kansas.
Augusta Belle Coleman was a daughter of James Pittman Coleman. She died
in 1997 at age 94. I talked to her on the phone many times and she sent
me pages of information, dates, etc. The interesting thing is that she
said many times: "Some think my grandfather was born in Maryland but I
thought he was born in Kent, England." Her nieces told me she got that
in her head and would not believe the obit. Who knows? She had a
brother who was in his 90s and may still be alive but he agreed with
anything and everything she told him.
Perhaps your James Samuel was a brother to my Lemuel and Richard
Elison. He was probably born in the correct time frame. And my Richard
Elison gave his first born a middle name of Samuel.
Thanks a bunch for answering my query. Do you have any new clues now
with my information? Let me know.

This research is not COLEMAN specific, but I think you will be interesting to
you. As a start point, Daniel THOMASON, son of William THOMASON, married Mary
Jane, daughter of John and Jane (French) DENTON. I am looking for an identity
of William THOMASON. My research has lead me to the LDS Ancestral File (AF)
where there is a William THOMPSON, b. c 1775 Halifax Co., VA, son of William
and Rachel (COLEMAN) THOMPSON.
The name COLEMAN caught my attention as William THOMASON (above) is alleged to
have married a Sarah MULLINS whose brother was Daniel COLEMAN Mullins. Sarah
and Daniel Coleman Mullins were children of Daniel who was son of Charles
MULLINS who came to Halifax Co., VA from PA in 1754. Daniel MULLINS,
subsequently (by 1790), had moved to Burke Co., NC where a William THOMPSON is
known to associate with a MULLINS family. Daniel's daughter, Sarah, probably
married a William THOMASON as she is identified as Sarah THOMASON (1784-1864)
on her tombstone. Daniel MULLINS and a son the age of Daniel Coleman are
found in Rutherford Co., NC in 1800. Daniel Coleman MULLINS is in Rutherford
Co., NC in 1810. Daniel Coleman MULLINS is found in Warren Co., TN in 1812
along with John DENTON, and William THOMASON.
I'm trying to ascertain --
1) if, in this case, THOMASON and THOMPSON are the same family
2) if there is a COLEMAN-MULLINS marriage--perhaps Daniel (or his father
Charles) married a COLEMAN and their son (grandson) was named Daniel COLEMAN
Mullins.
3) to whom William THOMPSON, b. 1775 was married. (poss. Sarah MULLINS)

Searching for the parents of Charles Coleman (BD 1756; BP Wilkes Co.,

Hi I am new to this list.
I am looking for information about the birth and parents of Phebe
Coleman
who married Nathaniell Robinson in Windham CT on 13 Aug 1778.
She was also the mother of Fanny Robinson, b. 22 Oct 1779 Windham.
She died 15 Jun 1785 in South Hampton, CT.
Gendex shows many Phebe (or Phoebe) Coleman's, but none of them
are the right age. If Nathaniell was a Rev War soldier, he could have
met her almost anywhere.

Lillian B. Coleman (Lilly Colman on marriage certificate), b. Jamestown
VA 1817 or 1819, d. IL 1859. Married Robert Albin b. Pickaway Co., OH
1811, m. Vermillion Co., IN 12 NOV 1835, d. Douglas Co., IL 1890.
(Lillly and Robert are my great-great-great grandparents).)
They were in Coles Co., IL by 1840 and later Douglas Co., IL. Since
Lilly married Robert Albin at age 18 or age 16, I presume her parents
were in Vermillion Co., IN at that time also. Her mother's first name
might have been Pheobe. Her firstborn is Pheobe Jane Albin (b. 30 JUL
1837, m. 28 NOV 1855 to Jacob Ogdon, d. 31 DEC 1916). In the 1850 Coles
Co., IL census record there is a Phebe A. Potter, 54 years old, born in
PA living with the family. Lilly was 34 at the time. This Phebe might
be her mother who had widowed and remarried. Don't know. Maybe an
aunt? The 1850 census record also shows Lilly as being born in Ohio,
which I don't think is true, but might indicate the family moved to Ohio
when she was very young and that is where she and Robert met.
I have the offspring of Lilly and Robert. Am most interested in finding
her ancestry.
Thanks,
Karen Cucchia

All,
As a new subscriber, I would like to introduce my COLEMAN interest.
Daniel COLEMAN Mullins, b. 1785 VA, died 1857 Warren Co., TN m. before 1809
Rutherford Co., NC Didema Lyles. Daniel Coleman was the son of Daniel Mullins
(wife unknown) of Halifax Co., VA. The senior Daniel is listed in USC 1790
Burke Co., NC and USC 1800 Rutherford Co., NC. Daniel COLEMAN Mullins is
listed USC 1810 Rutherford Co., NC and is on the 1812 Tax List of Warren Co.,
TN.
It is believed that there was a Daniel COLEMAN of Halifax Co., vA who as a
very young boy road a long distance at night to get help for his family who
were in distress. The boy became a local hero It appears that Daniel
MULLINS named his son after this young boy, but it may be that the senior
Daniel or his father, Charles MULLINS, was married to a COLEMAN.
Can anyone help me here.
Best regards,
Hugh

I am new to this list.
I seek info about my grandmother, Ethyl Coleman, who married
"Jay" Graham in early 1900's.
They had five children in period 1912- ~1920:
Claude (my father)
Irene
Georgia
Henrietta
Katherine
The descendants had a cousin's reunion last weekend in Columbia CA.
Info appreciated, thanks,

I also have COLEMAN as middle names in 2 lines - I've been preaching about
them to several lists! :-) in 2 lists! Charlie COLEMAN Moses and Joseph
COLEMAN Mawyer from Albemarle and Nelson Cos. in Virginia. I haven't a clue
where it came from but I'll keep your COX person in case I run across the name
in my lines -- good luck to both of us!! Gayle Andriani
This Coleman family may have migrated from the Robeson Co/Bladen Co., NC area
as there were Coleman's and Cox's closely associated there in the late 1700's,
early 1800's. One of the common migratory patterns from this area was to GA.

Sounds like E. Coleman and Tom Rogers have a Cox connection to me:
