I am researching a William Coleman who died in the mid-1830s in Meade
Co., KY. He was married to Elizabeth Swinford and had three children
by her. His father may have been a Josiah Coleman who settled in
Hardin Co. (area later became Meade Co.), Kentucky. Any information
on Meade County Colemans would be appreciated.

The information I have on the Colemans comes from Colvin and Allied
families, by Baker and Ethelle Colvin. Yes they would have come from Chester
or Fairfield, SC. I have Feaster, Crosby, and Rabbs also from that area.

I know that Robert Coleman, b. ca 1745 and wife Elizabeth Roe b. 1747
lived near Feasterville, SC because they are mentioned in the excerpt from
Jennie I. Coleman's diary where she attempts to record the history of her
family. Her diary excerpt is reproduced starting on p. 34 and Robert and wife
are mentioned on p. 35 of the book titled, "The Robert Coleman Family"
by J. P. Coleman, 51st Gov. of the state of Mississippi. I think he follows
the Robert/Elizabeth line which wasn't what I was interested in back when
I copied those pages. I am interested in Charles' line, his brother, which the
book doesn't follow. But now I am interested in tieing together those in the
Census and that is what you have provided. Thanks!
Probable Head of

Y Allen,
N Charles (probably Robert's brother; possibly my line),
Y David (definitely in your line),
N Fanny (nickname?),
Y Francis,
N Jesse,
N John (unless this is Henry),
Y John R.,
Y Robert,
Robert R. (Possibly the old man; not the youngest son),
N Solomon,
Y Solomon R.,
N Stephen, and
N William (Possibly Robert's other brother, mentioned
in the diary excerpt.)
Again. Thanks!
Anyone else have information on this group?

I have been trying to mail but it has bounce back. I guess it can't take
attachments. I have a Charty Coleman married to Stephen Crosby for my line. I
part of a line on David Roe Colman from Fairfield, SC. I will like of yours.
Hi Jennifer........

Well, Jennifer, there are some out here but we aren't very active on the list.
I would be interested in any information tieing together Colemans in
Fairfield County, South Carolina in the 1780-1820 period.
The 1810 Census lists the following heads of household:
Allen,
Charles,
David,
Fanny,
Francis,
Jesse,
John,
John R.,
Robert,
Robert R.,
Solomon,
Solomon R.,
Stephen, and
William
I am particularly interested in Charles Coleman's line here. I have, from DAR,
records for a Charles Coleman's Will probated. I have an excerpt of Jennie I.
Coleman's diary dated Dec 3rd 1905 in Feasterville, SC which says that the
Colemans, at least three brothers named Robert, William, and Charles, came
from Halifax Co. NC to her neighborhood about 1775. She says Robert was
born 1745, married Elizabeth Roe b. 1747 and that there was a large family
of Colemans and of Roes.
Anyone have info on the Colemans of Fairfield Co. SC during the 1780-1820
period?
Can anyone point me to church records that could help tie these families?

Aloha,
I'm new to this list and currently working hard on my Coleman line, but have
watched the posts and haven't seen many for Colemans. Is anyone out there?
I've collected several bits and pieces on my own line and several others
which I hope to someday connect to. I am seeking information on the
following, and any help would greatly be appreciated:
1. John Coleman b. ? m.? d. 1789 in Caswell County, NC
2. Daniel Coleman b. 1770 in Orange, NC, m.12/22/1789 in Caswell Co., NC
d. 1802 in Edgefield?, SC
spouse: Lucy Bumpass b. 1761 in Orange, NC
3. Thornton Coleman b. February 21, 1792 in NC, D 5/3/1877 in Edgefield? SC
spouse or sibling? Dorothy b. 7/22,1797
4. Daniel Coleman b. December 13,1819 in ? d. February 13, 1876 in
Swainboro, GA
I have info on all ( or almost all) of #4 Daniel's Children, one of whom is
my line, and another child who is an ancestor of a distant cousin.
I am looking for something to confirm #1John Coleman as the father of #2
Daniel Coleman, and also who was John married to. I think if I could locate
the siblings of any of the 4 listed above that I could connect other
Coleman names which I have been collecting. I also am wondering if a
Coleman married a Thornton to bring the Thornton name into the family. 3
other family members have this as their first or middle name. Most of the
Colemans I've collected from others list the names John, James, Richard, and
Daniel quite often. Do you have these names in your Colemans? I'd love to
hear from you!
Sincerely, Jennifer

Is there anyone out there who traces their Coleman roots back to

I can't contribute anthing to this line, but my COLEMAN ancestors
appear in the same general area of Alabama at about the same time, so
perhaps there is a connection.
John M. Coleman, a minister of the M.E. Church, South, was born 23 Jan
1833 in South Carolina. On 19 September 1859, he married Nancy H.
Parker in Alabama (Calhoun/Cleburne/Randolph county?). He died on 23
May 1906 and his obituary stated that he was the son of Robert and
Sallie Coleman.
Found Robert & Sarah Coleman on Randolph County 1850 census with 10
children (including 16-year-old John) and an 80-year-old John. Sarah
is buried at Shoal Creek Church (located within the Talladega National
Forest in Cleburne County), but I have found no information on
Robert's death. He does not appear on the 1860 census in either
Calhoun or Randolph county. (Cleburne county was formed in 1866.)
John and Nancy Coleman appear on the 1860 Calhoun county census in the
Shoal Creek district. By the way, the Shoal Creek Church is about 500
yards or so from Coleman Lake!
John and Nancy eventually migrate to Marion County, Alabama; they are
both buried at Cedar Tree Cemetery in Hackleburg, AL. (Fayette County
is nestled up next to Marion County, so perhaps your group and mine
are related.)
If anyone has information on Robert or Sarah/Sallie Coleman and the
migration from South Carolina to eastern Alabama, I'd love to exchange
data.

Leigh

Hello,
I've recently extended my knowledge of my ancestry to find that I have
descent from a COLEMAN family in the parishes of Longhope and Westbury
on Severn in Gloucestershire, England. The period is pre 1820.
Anyone else with Coleman interests in that area ?
