A book written before 12/10/84 (date of the addendum) by
Cy Yarborough, of Salem, VA titled:
The Colemans of North Hamilton County Tennessee
is an excellent reference, probably as complete as possible
from all court, Census, as well as other local data and
interviews permitted. Available from the library in Chattanooga,
I have had a copy for a number of years, as this family is
part of my line. It deals with all the descendants of Charles
Coleman (who died Jan. 1860), one of the earliest white settlers
in the area of Soddy-Daisy Tennesse (just north of Chattanooga).
This Charles Coleman is almost certainly the same as the
Charles S. Coleman, b 1793 in S. Carolina, son of Charles
Coleman b 1762 in Virginia both of whom are recorded at the
back of J. P. Coleman's book as having no known connection
(other than marriage) to J. P. Coleman's lines recorded in his
book.
For your benefit and mine, I have created a web page for the
Colemans in the Index of Cy's fine work. I can also add to the
tome for one line which was "lost" from the perspective of the
author, but which I connected in a few years ago. My family
GEDCOM is also available online and includes this line.
Anyone with Coleman's in North Hamilton County area of
Tennessee will find this the treasure that I have.

I am researching the family of George and Nancy (Bufford) Coleman
reportedly from South Carolina. I have no dates on George Coleman, his wife,
Nancy (Buffford) Coleman was born in 1782. She died in Carroll county in
1866. The couple had at least one son named Henry Allen Coleman, born 1814,
in Putnam county, GA. This family may be kin to the Colemans of Baldwin
county as Putnam was formed from it.
Henry Allen Coleman and his mother Nancy were in a will of one, William Allen
of Putnam county in 1825. It appears he was the 2d husband of Nancy Coleman,
as there is a record of marriage in Putnam county in 1819. Henry Allen
Coleman married Sarah Ann Barnes, b. 1807. He had a number of children, among
which were James P. Coleman, b. abt 1834, and William Allen Coleman, b. 1838,
there were also born to them, John Henry, Mary, and Elizabeth Coleman. This
family lived in DeKalb, Cobb, and Carroll county,GA. They were of
Scotch-Irish descent and also used the spelling of Colman in the instance of
George and Henry Allen Coleman.
Please reply to CERJR(a)aol.com if any of this is familiar.

For those of you with missing Coleman's (that's all of us, right), Indiana
marriages before 1850 are on-line at and there are 200 Coleman marriages
listed:
http://www.statelib.lib.in.us/www/indiana/genealogy/mirr.html
I know, I thought the address looked weird too, but it works. The first 2
times I tried it I got an error message. Just try, try, again. I was as
surprized as anyone to find my Coleman's went to Indiana, but they did,
atleast for a while. Kathy
Found a great document which can be downloaded from the net. It is entitled
"Some of the Descendants of Robert Coleman of Gloucester, Co., VA. It can be
found at http://ro.com/~coleman/sdrcgcva.txt. If that doesn't work, I found
it by using AltaVista search engine to find "Colonial Caroline". It is 58
pages and I think worth downloading. Kathy
I sorry if this is a repost. I did not receive a copy of my note back
from the list server when I originally sent it on Oct. 8. I would like
to connect with anyone interested in these Coleman families. I plan to
take a day trip to NY state to visit Lisbon, Flackville and Ogdensburg
this weekend. I could use any pointers in locating the local cemeteries
or museums.
I have finally started to document my American cousins. I was lucky
enough to come upon a 1956 booklet by a Faith Coleman Carson. Four of my
GGGGG Grandfather's (John Coleman b. 1762 Cullybackey Ireland - d. 1855
Dundas Ontario) family emigrated in 1824 to Lisbon, NY.
William Coleman (1788-1866) (found in 1860 US census for Bremer Co.
Iowa)
Agnes (Nancy) Coleman (1797-1872)
Janette Coleman (1800-1875)
Jean Coleman (twin of Janette?)
After Lisbon, this family has spread out to Ogdensberg, Bremer Co. Iowa,
Beaver Falls PA. Geneva College (Beaver Falls) held a large place in
this Coleman Family. I counted 30 Geneva students, 5 professors, a head
of the history department, and a head of the political science depart.

I am trying to tie JOHN COLEMAN of Nantucket, Massachusetts to JERUSHA
COLEMAN of Nova Scotia.
I believe that my ancestry might be as follows:
JOHN COLEMAN, born 15 August 1732 at Nantucket, Mass. JOHN COLEMAN and
SOLOMON COLEMAN went to Barrington, Nova Scotia and was there when the
census of 1762 (July 1)was taken. It appears that SOLOMON died in
Nantucket so he may have returned home. But there is no record of JOHN
after his marriage in Nantucket. In the 1770 census of Granville, Nova
Scotia there is a JOHN COLMAN who had a wife, one son and one daughter.
JOHN COLEMAN, born circa 1754
JOHN(??) COLEMAN, born circa 1775
JERUSHA COLEMAN, born circa 1798, married DANIEL MATTHEWS II, 29
October 1818.
Would anybody be able to help me!
