Dr. James I. Gibson, 80, prominent
Iowa Veterinarian, of 119 Thirty-
sixth street drive SE, died suddenly
at 4 p.m. Friday of a heart attack.
Dr. Gibson was sitting in his car at
a Cedar Rapids parking lot when,
according to witnesses, he suddenly
slumped over the steering wheel. Dr.
T. F. Hersch, Linn county coroner,
investigated and pronounced death due
to a coronary ailment.
Dr. Gibson was a former Iowa state
veterinarian, serving four terms from
1899 to 1919. He moved from Des
Moines to Bloomington, Ill in 1919,
where he was instrumental in organizing
the Illinois State Veterinarian
Medical association.
In 1922 he served as livestock
commissioner at St. Joseph, MO. Dr.
Gibson was a past president of the
United States Livestock Sanitary
association.
Dr. Gibson was a salesman for the
Jen-Sal Laboratories of Kansas City
for 14 years until his retirement in
March 1944. He came to Cedar Rapids
from Des Moines eight years ago to
open a branch for the Jen-Sal company,
a distributor of veterinary supplies.
Born near Ottawa, Ont., Jan 27, 1865,
he was married to Minnie M. Colgrove
Dec. 31, 1892, at Denison. She survives
with a daughter, Mrs. Linn Culbertson,
Des Moines; a sister, Alice Gibson,
Ottawa; six brothers, L. P. of Kansas
City, Mo; Harry H., G.H., J Wesley and
E. Gibson, all of Ottawa, and F. D.
Gibson of Vancouver, B.C., and a grand-
son, James I. Mason, Cedar Rapids.
Dr. Gibson was a member of the First
Methodist church, the Masonic order and
the Shrine. He was graduated from the
Ontario Veterinary college in 1887.
Services will be held in the Turner
chapel Monday at 3:30 p.m. The Rev. John
De Long, pastor of Trinity Methodist
church, will officiate. The body will
be taken to Des Moines for burial in
Glendale cemetery. Friends may call at
the chapel.

received word of the death of his
sister, Mrs. J. W. Colgrove,
formerly Miss Lillian Wilson, at
her home, 19 Fairfield street,
North Cambridge, Boston, Mass.
Mrs. Colgrove's demise occurred
Friday, and came after a long ill-
ness. She was 45 years of age,
and leaves to mourn her death,
besides her husband, her father,
James Wilson, who has resided with
her, and two brothers and four
sisters. She was a cousin of John
C. Wilson of this city.
The funeral services are
announced to take place at 2
o'clock Sunday afternoon, from
her late home.

Dollie Marie Kennedy Langcor, 90 of
Parkridge Nursing and Rehabilitation
Center in Pleasant Hill died of a
heart ailment there Thursday. Grave-
side services will be at 10 a.m.
Monday at Greenwood Cemetery in
Knoxville.
Mrs. Longcor was born in Norwalk and
lived in Pleasant Hill most of her
life. She was a homemaker and enjoyed
gardening.
She is survived by a daughter, Jan
Dougherty, and a son, Dean Colgrove,
both of Des Moines; two stepdaughters,
Ann Oberst and Mary Lou Eimer, and a
stepson, Dale Kennedy, all of Kansas
City, Mo.; numerous grandchildren and
numerous great-grandchildren. She was
preceded in death by her husband Glenn.
The family will receive friends from
2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Hamilton's Funeral
Home. Memorial contributions may be
made to the family.

and ten, he passed away on March 19,
1920, at the age of 83 years, 10 months,
and 15 days.
His keeness' of mind and gentle
disposition had won him many friends who
will miss him greatly for he numbered
among his acquaintances many older
residents of this city to whom he was a
familiar figure.
He leaves to mourn his death four
daughters, Mrs. Hattie Hamilton, Mrs.
Minnie Beagle, Mrs. Ben Holmes and Mrs.
Glen Hathorn, all of this city, and two
sons, Charles Losey of Dutton, Mont.,

upright, the dead body of Mrs. Julia E.
Colgrove, a widow who lived alone, was

Wilton, Ia., Jan. 4. -- This community
today mourns the death of Mrs. Theodore
Bentley, aged 78 years, one of the well
known residents of this community. Her
demise occurred last evening at 10:30
o'clock and was die to the hardening of
the arteries. She had been in failing
health for some time.
The decesdent was a native of New York
state but removed to Iowa many years ago.
Her husband passed away four years ago.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs.
Frank Garstang, of Davenport, one sister,
Mrs. I. K. Terry and one brother, David
Colgrove, of Ithica, N.Y. The funeral will
be held at the home on Friday afternoon at
2:30 o'clock. Rev. C. L. Stafford,
officiating.

BOLDTON LANDING, N.Y. (AP) --
A 10-year-old boy died when a
fire swept a home in this Lake
George community and his mother
was charged with setting the
blaze, authorities say.
Judith E. Colgrove, 29, was
arranged Monday on felony arson
charges. Her son Thomas was
found dead in his burned upstairs
bedroom, according to sheriff's
department investigators.
Colgrove, who lived alone in
the house with her son, was being
held in the Warren County Jail in
lieu of $25,000 bond. No hearing
date was set.

Joseph H. Colgrove
Joseph Hervey Colgrove, 85, of Leola,
died of natural causes on Friday, May
30th, 2008 at Moravian Manor. He was
the husband of Ruth Ann (Watters) Col-
grove. They were married 59 years
last Nov. 20th. Born in Canaseraga,
NY on June 25, 1922, he was a son of
the late Harold V. and Mary (gray) Col-
grove.
He was a graduate of Ohio Wesleyan in
1948 and earned an MBA from Northwestern
University in 1950. Joseph retired as
Vice President and General Manager of
the R.C.A. Color Tube Division,
Lancaster in 1982 with 32 years of
service to the company. He was a
member of Highland Presbyterian Church,
1801 Oregon Pike, Lancaster, PA 17601.
He served in the U.S. Army during WWII
and attained the rank of T/Sgt. in the
Ordinance Corps. He was a member of
the Lancaster General Hospital Foun-
dation, past Chairman & Director of
Lancaster General Hospital and
Lancaster General Service Co., Past
Director of Lancaster Chamber of
Commerce and Industry, Director
Lancaster/Lebanon Boy Scout Council,
past member of the Rohrerstown Band.

Mrs. Laura Walker Colgrove
Laura Walker Colegrove, daughter of D. J.
M. Walker and Bridget Walker, was born at
Fayette, Iowa, May 20, 1862, and passed
away at Oak Park, Illinois, at the home
of her daughter, July 3, 1940, at the age
of 78 years, 1 month and 13 days.
Funeral services were conducted at the
Fox Funeral Home at Fayette, Iowa, on
Saturday, July 6, 1940, at 2:30 p.m.
Interment was in Grandview cemetery at
Fayette. The pallbearers were, Lowell
Walker, and Glenn Porter of Waterloo,
Waldo Walker and Charles Aylesworth of
Fayette, Frank P. Walker of Clear Lake
and Herbert Porter of Maynard, nephews of
Mrs. Colgrove. Rev. V. C. Welch officiated.
The early years of childhood and youth
were spent at the Fayette community where
she received her education in the public
schools, and in Upper Iowa University,
where she graduated in 1883, and later
secured her Master's degree in 1886. She
taught in the public schools in both Iowa
and Illinois, and served as assistant
county superintendent for Fayette county
schools for four years. She was the
author of "Romance of the Lake" and other
poems, and of several Minnesota and
patriotic songs.
Mrs. Colgrove was ever active in church
and community life, giving much time to
and service as president of the Tourist
club in West Union, and of the St.
Anthony Falls Study club in Minneapolis,
also of the Women's Foreign and Home
Missionary societies in the First
Methodist church in Minneapolis. She
also serves as president of the Ladies Aid
Society, and was active in the Sunday
School of this church.
On April 8th, 1995, she married Albert
L. Colgrove and in 1935 they celebrated
their Golden Wedding anniversary. They
lived in West Union for some time after
their marriage and moved to Minneapolis
in 1904. Mr. Colgrove preceded her in
death December 9th, 1936. In their home
were born four sons and three daughters,
of whom three survive: Chester W. of
Hollywood, Calif., Mrs. John S. Peoples
of Oak Park, Ill, and Francis E. of
Minneapolis, Minnesota. She is also
survived by a brother, D. J. Walker of
Waterloo, and four granddaughters, and
one great grandson.
The death of Mrs. Colgrove marks the
passing of a loving wife and mother,
good neighbor and an active community
leader, who was reared in a pioneer home
in Fayette county, and who knew the joys
and hardships of those early days.

LAKE CITY -- George Jesme, 61, of
Lake City, died unexpectedly of a
heart attack on Monday, Oct. 30.
Funeral arrangements are pending here
at the Huffman Memorial Chapel.
Mr. Jesme was born Nov. 12, 1905,
at Wallace, S. D. He served in the
United States Army during World War
II. He was married to Irene Cole-
grove at Sioux Falls, S. D., on
Jan 6, 1959, and they farmed south
of Lake City in Carroll County. He
was a member of the Presbyterian
Church and American Legion Post No.
31 at Lake City.
Surviving are his wife, Irene;
three sisters, Mrs. Glenn Miller,
Groton, S. D.; Mrs. Horace Ustrud,
Watertown, S. D.; Mrs. Thea Hagen,

D. L. Burrell, 95, died at the
Woodlawn Convalescent Home at 6:20
a.m. Saturday of complications
incident to advanced age.
He was born June 6, 1857, near
Plainfield, Ill., the son of John
and Caroline Colegrove Burrell.
He came to Iowa in 1878 and settled
at Urbana.
He married florence McCulley at
Urbana in 1883. She preceded him
in death in 1895. He married
Melvina Davin Byers at Urbana in
1898. She preceded him in death in
1909.
He had lived in Waterloo for the
past three years. He had been a
member of the Masonic Lodge for
65 years.
Surviving are three daughters,
Mrs. Ray Geiger, Brandon; Mrs. Ed
Meyer, Tripoli, and Mrs. James
McKee, 725 West Parker St.; a son,
Blain B. Burrell, Cedar Rapids; an
adopted son, Warren Burrell Rambo,
Cedar Rapids; a sister, Mrs. Will
Kerwin, Cedar Rapids; a brother
Jesse Burrell, Medical Lake, Wash.;
12 grandchildren and 10 great grand-
children.
He was preceded in death by two
sons, three sisters and five brothers.
A prayer service will be conducted
at the Locke Funeral Home at 12:30
Tuesday with funeral services at 2
p.m. at the Urbana Christian Church
with Dr. Frank Court officiating.
Burial will be in the Urbana Cemetery.
Graveside services will be conducted
by Alta Lodge No. 362, AF&AM, Urbana.
The family requests that no flowers
be sent.
