Wedding vows pledged by
Linda Colgrove - Billy Allen
Miss Linda Lu Colgrove, Blue Springs,
and Billy Dean Allen, Morland, Kan.,
were united in marriage Jan. 15 at the
Blue Springs Christian Church. The
bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
James E. Colgrove, Blue Springs, and
the bridegroom is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Loyal Allen, Morland.
The double ring ceremony was ready at
2:30 p.m. by the Rev. Darrell Cotting-
ham in the presence of 120 guests. Two
large baskets of gladioli decorated the
altar. Mrs. Wayne Marples, Blue Springs
played the traditional wedding music and
accompanied Mrs. Jesse Schmidge, Wymore,
who sang "Dearly Beloved", "Through the
Years" and "Wedding Prayer"
Given in marriage by her father the
bride chose a ballerina length dress of
sheet nylon over taffeta featuring a
full skirt and shirred midriff, topped
with a nylon lace jacket designed with
three-quarter length sleeves. The high
neckline tapered to a V in the back and
was edged in its entirety with white
satin. Tiny white bows marked the back
closing. Her elbow length veil was
attached to a tiara of lace trimmed with
tiny seed pearls and sequins. The
bride's only jewelry was a pearl neck-
lace. She carried a white bible topped
with a corsage of red roses.
Mrs. Robert Allen, Wymore, sister-in-
law of the groom was the matron of honor.
She wore a street length princess style
dress of powder blue taffeta with white
accessories and carried a colonial style
bouquet of white mums.
Sherry Herman, Panora, Iowa, cousin of
the bride was flower girl and Brian
Mettscher, blue Springs, also a cousin
of the bride, carried the rings.
Attending his cousin as best man was
Larry Brown, Hill City, Kan., and seating
the guests were Danny Colgrove and Melvin
Mettscher, both cousins of the bride.
The bride's mother wore an ice blue
brocaded satin dress with bone accessories
and the groom's mother chose a black lace
dress with black accessories. Their
corsages were of white mums.
A reception was given by the bride's
parents in the church basement. The
wedding cake was baked and decorated by
Mrs. Tony Neuman, Barneston, and cut by
Mrs. Gene Heran, panora. Mrs. Dick Col-
grove, Blue Springs and Mrs. Don Colgrove,
Wymore, poured. Miss Midge Andrews, Lincoln,
was in charge of the guest book. Arranging
the gifts were Miss Ginger Pegans, Mrs.
Garnet Richards, both of Lincoln. Mrs.
Sharron Lytle and Miss Darlys Graham, Wymore.
For traveling the bride chose a sapphire
blue knit suit, trimmed with pearls, and
black accessories. Her corsage was of
white carnations.
The new Mrs. Allen was graduated from the
Wymore High School and is employed at Neylon
Brothers. Mr. Allen was graduated from Hoxie
High School, Hoxie, Kan., and is now employed
by Sharps Construction Co., Norton, Kan.
They will reside at 902 Grant St.

James E. Colgrove
BLUE SPRINGS -- James E. Colgrove, 78, Blue
Springs, died Tuesday morning, Dec. 24, 1996,
at the Wymore Good Samaritan Center. He was
born Nov. 21, 1918, on a farm near Barneston
and spent his childhood in the Barnston/Odell
area. He married Mildred Hardy on Aug. 4,
1938, at Beatrice, and they lived at Wymore
before moving to Blue Springs in 1941. He
was a heavy equipment operator and did custom
farm work. He also operated a small dairy
and served in the Civilian Conservation Corp.
He enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing
and hunting. He did mechanical work on
tractors and small engines and especially
motorcycles, and also made bird houses.
Survivors: Wife, Mildred; daughter Linda
Allen and husband Bill of Blue Springs;
granddaughters, Debbie Henrichs and husband
Allan and Phyllis Mick and husband Ron, all
of Wymore, and Chris Thornburg and husband
Greg of Beatrice; three great-granddaughters,
and one great-grandson; brothers, Donald Col-
grove and wife Helen and Harold "Dick" Col-
grove, all of Wymore; nieces and nephews. He
was preceded in death by his parents, James A.
and Anna (Paisley) Colgrove; a great-grandson,
Chase Henrichs; brothers, Bert, Ivan and Howard
"Buss" Colgrove, sisters, Mae Immel, Ida Cook,
Hazel Clemons and Virginia Pike.
Funeral: 11 a.m. Friday, Dec 27, Wymore Church

WYMORE -- Virginia M. Pike, 73, of Wymore, died Friday,
Dec. 31, 1993, at the Milder Manor in Lincoln. She was
born June 20, 1920, on a farm near Wymore and has been a
resident of the Wymore area her entire life. She was a
former employee of Marshall Produce and was a self-
employed seamstress. She was a member of the Wymore
Church of Christ and the church's womens group. She was
also a member of the Anderson American Legion Auxiliary
Post No. 25 at Wymore and the Lincoln Art Guild. Her
hobbies included art work, gardening and cake decorating.
Survivors: son, Ronald Pike and wife DeAnne of Lincoln;
daughter Ramona Fauver and husband Bob of Lincoln; grand-
children, Greg Fauver and wife Barb, Vicki Clarke and
husband Scott and Jeff, Cindy and Mary Pike, all of
Lincoln; great-grandsons, Bryan and Brad Fauver; brothers,
Harold "Dick" Colgrove and Don Colgrove and wife Helen

Laura Fast, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
O.D. Fast of Diller and Kenneth Col-

Colgrove of Wymore were married in a
double ring ceremony at the home of
the brides maternal grandparents, Mr.
and Mrs. Frank Foetisch, of near
Tecumseh on July 20 at 4 p.m. The Rev.
Clifford Reynolds of Tecumseh
officiated.
Mrs. Melvin Brinkman of Tecumseh
provided the traditional organ music.
Capri gladioli and green hydrangea
arrangements were used throughout
the home for decor. An Antique
pillar console table held a Bible
and wedding candle flanked by two
lavender candles.
The bride descended an open stair-
way to meet her father who presented
her in marriage. She wore a gown of
slipper satin with an empire bodice
overlay of Alencon lace. Tiny pearls
and irridescents were scattered over
the lace sleeves, bodice and detatch-
able train.
Her three tiered finger tip veil of
illusion was held by a profile clip
of pearl encrusted lace petals. She
carried a modified cascade of white
miniature carnations, sweetheart
roses and baby's breath accented with
ivy.
Maid of honor was Janet Fast,
sister of the bride. Brides maton was
Mrs. Warren Fuller and bridesmaid,
Mary Hays, all of Diller. They wore
gowns of dot flocked crepe in pastel
shades of lavender, mint green and
apricot. White Venice lace outlined
the scoop necklines, puffed sleeves
and flounce. Each wore a white
picture hat with ribbon steamers and
carried long stemmed tinted carnations.
Michelle Fast of Sidney was flower
girl. She carried a basket of rose
petals. Mike Colgrove of Bellevue
carried the rings.
John Prebyl was best man and grooms-
men were Davis Colgrove from Wymore
and Jim Fossler of Pickrell.
A reception was held at the home
following the ceremony for about 75
guests.
The bride attended Diller Schools
and is enrolled in the L.P.N. classes
at Southeast Community College in
Fairbury. She is employed at the
Beatrice State Home. Her husband
attended Wymore schools and is
employed at Petersen Manufacturing
Company of DeWitt.
After a Colorado wedding trip they
are at home in Wymore.

Following a wedding trip to Kansas
City, Mo., the couple is residing at

WYMORE -- E. Irene Colgrove, 74, Wymore, died
Sunday morning, July 11, 1993, at Beatrice
Community Hospital. She was born Jan. 20, 1919,
at Rulo, where she spent her childhood. She
married Harold "Dick" colgrove on Feb 24, 1977,
at Mound City, Mo., and they lived in Falls City
and then in Ozark, Ark., until 1985, when they
moved to Wymore. She attended the Wymore Church
of Christ.
Survivors: Husband, Harold "Dick"; stepsons,
Jerry Colgrove and wife Sharon of Fairfax, Va.,
Dale Colgrove and wife Linda of DeWitt, and
Kenneth Colgrove and fiance, Chris Koepsel, both
of Wymore; nine grandchildren; two great-grand-
children; sisters, Dorothy Lippold of Falls City,
Edna Moore and Husband Wes of Mankato, Kan.;
brother, Walter Wiessman and wife Carol of Car-

Wymore Southern High School and
received a degree in data processing
from Southeast Community College,
Milford. She has been a computer
programmer at Security Mutual Lige
Insurance, Lincoln. Beginning in Aug 1.
she will work for Blue Cross and Blue
Shield, Sioux City, Iowa, as a computer
programmer. The groom is a 1981 graduate
of Wymore Southern High School and is a
student at Westmar College, LeMars, Iowa,
where he will be a junior this fall. He
is co-captain of the wrestling team.
After a wedding trip to Kansas City,
they will live at 1135 Fourth Ave., No.
S-14, LeMars, Iowa.

MARY COLGROVE
Mary Ann With, daughter of John
W. and Elizabeth With was born
June 8, 1855, at Smyrna, Del. At
the age of four she moved to Bureau
County, Ill., with her parents,
but returned to Delaware after a
short stay there. In 1872 she
again made her home in Illinois.
On April 16, 1874, she was united
in marriage to James F. Colgrove
after which they moved to Marysville,
Kan. Her first two children, John W.
and Millie were born there and soon
after the family homesteaded south-
west of Wymore. They were frightened
many time by Indians who passed
through. At his place three sons,
James, Charles and Edward, were born.
The colgroves then purchased a farm
and it was here where the last four
children were born: Elizabeth who
died in infancy, Elmer, and the
twins, Nell and Dell.
In 1892 the Colgroves moved to
Odell where they were engaged in
the lumber and elevator business.
In 1893, Mrs. Colgrove united
with the Christian church at Odell
and lived a faithful Christian life
until her death., In 1921 Mr. Col-
grove suffered a stroke and Mrs.
Colgrove cared for him patiently
until his death, Jul 27, 1931. Since
that time she had not been well and
during the past three years she
stayed at the home of her son James,
being bedfast most of the time. She
enjoyed having her friends come in
and to read her favorite passage, the
23rd Psalm.
She passed away Nov. 2, 1943, at
the age of 88 years, four months and
24 days. She leaves in her passing,
six sons and one daughter, 38 grand-
children and 37 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Colgrove was a great flower
lover and enjoyed caring for sick
friends.
Funeral services were held Nov. 6
from the West Chapel in Wymore with
the Rev. Kenneth Hoschouer of they
Wymore Christian church officiating.
Burial was in the Wymore Cemetery.

The bride wore a gown of white
satin with simulated pearl chriss-
cross illusion net across the
sweethard neckline. Embroidered
applique trimmed with pearls and
sequins lavished the front bodice.
A small cascade of simulated pearl
drops fell against the open back.
Delicate embroidered cutouts high-
lighted the upper and lower sleeves.
The long flowing skirt traveled
into a cathedral-length train,
featuring cutout embroidered Schiffi
lace outlining the scalloped lace
hemline.
The groom wore a white tuxedo with
a full dress tail coat featuring
satin covered lapels with matching
vest and bow tie.
Maid of honor was beth Colgove of
Anniston, Ala., twin sister of the
bride. Bridesmaids were Stacey Step-
hens and Emily Martin, both from
Anniston, Ala., and Kelly Stevens
of Beatrice, sister of the Groom.
Best man was Brian Searcey of
Virginia. Serving as groomsmen were
Daniel Colgrove of Anniston, Ala.,
brother of the bride, Curt Martin
of Blue Springs, and Robert Hunt of
Crab Orchard.
Ushers were Robert Parthemer of
Beatrice, brother-in-law of the
groom, Billy Kagy of Crab Orchard,
cousin of the groom.
Ring bearer was Jacob Parthemer
of Beatrice, nephew of the groom.
Flower girl was Kara Boerger of
Lincoln, cousin of the bride.
Personal attendant was Jana Stevens
of Virginia, sister of the groom.
Lighting candle was Amy Shumaker
of Blue Springs, cousin of the
bride.
Musician was Rachel Snyder of
Liberty. Soloist was Gwen Colgrove
of Gretna, aunt of the bride.

Lesa Parthemer of Beatrice, sister
of the groom.

Legion Hall in Virginia were Dave
and Fern Colgrove of Wymore, uncle
and aunt of the bride.
The couple is residing at Virginia.
They will take a wedding trip to
Florida at a later date.
The bride is attending Southeast
Community College-Beatrice majoring
as a medical secretary. The groom
is employed by Home & Business
Improvements of Virginia.

witnessed the ceremony. After visiting
at Gothenburg, Neb., Mr. and Mrs. Rosen-
trater will go to Tabor, Ia., where they
will enter a school to prepare for the
mission field.

services for Ray Colegrove,
who was killed Tuesday in an
Automobile accident south of
Dawson, will be held Friday
at 10:30 a.m. from the First
Methodist Church with Rev.
R. H. Lingard officiating.
Colegrove was born Sept.
20, 1888. His wife preceded
him in death.
Survivors include one
daughter, Mrs. Ervin Siske,
Pawnee City; two grand-
children; three sisters,
Mrs. Lulu Wiand, Lenox, Iowa,
Mrs. Grace Olson, Ferndale,
Mich., and Mrs. Ruth McCracken,
Jobman, Mo.; and four brothers,
Ralph of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.,
Everett of Dallas, Tex.,
Theodore of Detroit, Mich., and
Merritt of Girard, Kan.
Interment will be in Pawnee
City Cemetery. Wherry Mortuary
is in charge of arrangements.
