Samuel Colgrove, who lived about three
miles southeast of this village, came to town
last Saturday to get a grist, and about half-
past six in the evening went to the church
sheds and got his team and drove to the mill
and got his grist, which had been set on the
platform for him when the mill was closed,
people across the creek from the mill bearing
cries as of some one in pain, O. W.
Edwards and Harvey Dodge started out
with lanterns to see if they could find out
what the trouble was. Upon reaching
the mill they found Mr. Colgrove lying in
the mud groaning, and people being notified,
a doctor was called and he was taken
to the home of O. H Rice and from there
to his mother's, where he died yesterday
morning (Sunday). It is supposed that he
fell out of the wagon after loading his grist
and struck upon his head and shoulders,
which caused his death. The funeral will
be held at the M. E. church, Tuesday afternoon
at 2 o'clock.

--Wednesday at 2 o'clock at her
home occurred the death of Nettie
Bussey Colgrove. Her sickness had
been of such a nature that it was
almost a relied for those that
cared most for her to know that
she had passed away and was through
her suffering. Nearly two years
ago she submitted to an unsuccessful
operation, from that time life has
been one constant struggle and for
the past year the only relief from
her suffering was by the use of
morphine. She was a woman greatly
lobed in the community. Besides her
husband Frank Colgrove she is survived
by her father and mother, Mr. and
Mrs. Robert Bussey, three brothers,
Fred of Canastota, Bert of Syracuse,
Walter of Ohio; three sisters Mrs.
George Irving of Deersfield, Miss
Florence Bussey of Utica and Miss

death in the family and they feel it
keenly. They have the sympathy of
their many friends. The funeral was
held from her late home Saturday at 1
o'clock, Rev. Geo. Phelps officiating.

PART OF CHILD'S
BODY IN SEWER
(Special to The Journal)
Ridgway, May 15.—Miss Anna
Colegrove. 30 year old Bell Telephone
operator who hitherto has borne an
excellent reputation is in the Ridgway
hospital in a critical condition.
Miss Colegrove is said to have admitted
being the mother of a child
born Monday morning. That night
her condition became so critical that
she was taken to the hospital.
The sewer of the Rankin building,
where the Bell Telephone office is
located, became clogged and the
plumber who was sent for found in
the clogged pipes parts of a baby's
body. It had been dismembered and
the head and legs have not been
found. The fact that Miss Colegrove
gave birth to a child, and the fact
that parts of a child's body were
afterward found lead to the supposition
that she may have disposed of
the Infant or have helped in such
disposition. Coroner Luhr empanneled
a jury and a verdict was reached placing
the blame for the infanticide on Miss
Colgrove.
The woman refuses to say whether
the child born to her was alive at
birth or still born. She also refuses
to talk concerning whether she had
help at the time the child was born
Or whether or not she is concerned
in the dismemberment of the body.
She is an orphan with one brother
on a farm near Ridgway and other
brothers and sisters in an orphan
home at Erie.
