anniversary of Mr. and Mrs.
Bernard J. Smith of 138 Powers
Rd. Saturday. The event will
be held in their home at 7 p.m.
They were married in New Cumber-
land Sept. 20, 1933, by the Rev.
Oresta C. Gross. They have
lived in Weirton since. Mr.
Smith is employed in the
Electrical Department of
Weirton Steel Co.
Mrs. Smith is the former Eva
Colegrove of Middlebourne,
W. Va., She is the daughter of
Mrs. Florence Ash of Mannington,
W. Va. and the late George B.
Colegrove. Mr. Smith is the
son of Mrs. Laura Pierson of
Josephs Mill, W. Va., and
Charles Smith.

Mrs. Colegrove
Shot In Back
Separate funeral serices will be
held Monday afternoon for LeRoy
and Irene Colegrove, victims of
a murder and suicide Thursday
over custody of their minor
child.
Services for Mrs. Colegrove will
be held Monday at 3 p.m. at the
Wappner funeral home with Rev.
Samuel R. Parreh officiating.
Burial will be in the Mansfield
cemetery.
Services for Colegrove will be
held Monday at 1 p.m. at the
Jones Memorial with Rev. Ralph
Mount pastor of the Pleasant
Valley Baptist church officiating.
Burial will be in the Memorial
park.
Police said Mrs. Colegrove was
shot in the back with a 12 gauge
shotgun as she leaned over a crib
in the Colegrove trailer home to
pick up her 17-month-old son,
Kenneth. Colegrove then fatally
wounded himself in the chest.
Both died instantly.
Mrs. Colegrove was born in
Mansfield July 10 1932, the
daughter of Edward and Mary Stickle
and lived her entire life in
Mansfield.
In addition to her son and father,
she is survived by her stepmother,
Mrs. Betty Jane Stickle, a sister,
Mrs. Raymond Dale Mumaw, and a
brother John Edward Stickle, all
of Mansfield.
Colegrove was born in Ashland, Ky.,
and came here with his parents
when he was a year old. He served
18 months with the U.S. Army after
world War II and spent eight months
overseas, part of which was in
Korea before the outbreak of the
Korean war.
He was discharged in 1948 and
became an employe of the city
garbage department July 14 1949.
In addition to his parents and son
he is survived by two brothers,
William K. and elwood Colegrove,
and two sisters Mrs. Paul Shoup
and Mrs. Sara Turner, all of
Mansfield.
Friends may call at both funeral
homes this evening.

KILLED IN ACTION
Olive Hill, Ky., Sept. 18. (AP)
Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Colegrove of
nearby Gregoryville have been
informed thier son, Pvt. Oliver
Colegrove, was killed in action
in Korea August 16.
He was the first Carter county
man reported killed in the
Korean fighting. Colegrove,
age 18, enlisted in the army
October 7, 1948, and trained at
Camp Breckinridge. He went
overseas in January 1949, and
was stationed in Japan before
the Korean invasion.

Edward Henry Lozier
Edward Henry Lozieer, 59, died
at 3:20 a.m. Sunday at his home,
1737 Oakland av. Mr Lozier was
born OCt 4 1898, at Greenup,
but spent most of his life here.
He attended Portsmouth Schools
and was a machinist for the
Norfolk & Western Railway for
34 years. Surviving are his
wife, Barbara; his mother and a
sister, Nelle Goodman, 922
Eigth st; a half-brother, James
Colegrove of Columbus.
Funeral service will be held
at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Redemer
Church with Rt. Rev. Msgr.
Joseph R. Casey in charge. In-
terment will be in Greenlawn
Cemetery under the direction of
Mart Glynn. The body may be
viewed at Lynn Funeral Home.

Mrs. Abigail Brooks
Mrs. Abigail Brooks, 83, of 1219
McConnell Av, died at 2:20 p.m.
Friday at Portsmouth General
Hospital after suffering a stroke.
She was admitted as a patient
there nights before.
She was born Oct. 20, 1865, at
Minford, a daughter of Ezra and
Mary Colegrove Snyder. She was
married first to William Rowley,
who died in 1893. In 1904 she
was wed to Samuel Brooks, who
also preceded her in death in
1929.
Surviving are two sons, Jesse
Rowley, 1416 Spring st, and
Frank Rowley, 1765 Poplar st.
Two Sons, two brothers and a
sister also are deceased.
Mrs. Brooks was a member of
Central Christain Church and of
the women's auxillary of the
Brotherhood of Locomotive Fire-
men.
Funeral services will be held
Monday at 1 p.m. at Emrich
Funeral Home, with Harry F.
Hannum, minister of Central
Church, officiating. Burial
will follwo in Greenlawn
Cemetery. The body will remain
at the funeral home.
