Car Thief
Gets 3 Yrs.
Alvin Colgrove, 28, of Windham
Center, Pa., received a 3-year
sentence to the federal penitentiary
at Atlanta today in U. S.
District Court on his plea of guilty
to interstate car theft.
The young man told investigating
officers that since 1944 he has
been in 23 jails and prisons, has
been a free man a total of only
18 months, and has escaped jail
"7 or 8 times".
He escaped from a deputy U.
S. marshal last year after his
arrest on the car theft charge,
and Judge Moore added a year to
his sentence for that offence.

DEATH OF AN AGED CITIZEN
THe passing away of John Burrel at
Urbana was an event expected for
sometime, as he had been in failing
health for several years. HE was born
in Clyde, N.Y., May 8 1821. He re-
moved to Plainfield, IL., in 1836 with
his parents when 16 years of age. He
was married to Caroline Colegrove of
the same place. Ten children were
born to them two little girls dying in
childhood. The boys growing to years
of manhood, came to Urbana and settled
there. Twenty-four years ago he rented
his farm in Illinois and came in Iowa
to spend the remaining years of life
near his children. He lived to see
the bleak praries of Illinois and Iowa
transformed into rich farming lands.
The old home was the scene of many
joyful reunions on Thanksgiving day
or like occasions when the children and
grandchildren would gather with wel-
come baskets, the table would be
lengthened out adn the appetites of
old and young satisfied. Should these
scenes occur again one chair will be
vacated at the table. All that was
mortal of grandpa has been laid out
of sight just after the early frost had
colored the leaves adn sent them to the
ground rustling under our feet. The life
swept out as quietly as teh going to sleep
of a little child.
The funeral was held Saturday, October 28,
Rev. Martin having the services in charge,
assisted by Red. Stuart of the Christian
church. He was carried to the last resting
place byu six grandchildren. He leaves a
wife and several children to mourn his
loss.
