Chris,
Thanks so much for taking the time to write me back. I will definitely try
your suggestion. Once before, I tried to purchase a death certificate from
Texas with Billie's name and it turned out that we don't have that kind of
access. Do I need to go to Texas to do something like that? To purchase one? I have
adoption papers. Is that proof enough?? I don't mean to throw so many
questions at once to you. I do appreciate your help though.

>My wife is descended from Tacy, the sister of the Elizabeth Partelow who

>what appears to be an early 19th century handwritten transcript of still

>
>The specific entry for Tacy Partelow's marriage is "Oct 2d 1791. Ambrose
>Coats of Stonington with Lucy Partelow of Voluntown." I have no doubt that
>the early 19th century copyist mistook "Tacy" for the far more common name
>of Lucy.
>
>Ambrose and Tacy (Partelow) Coats named two of their daughters Lydia and
>Freelove Tacy, respectively. The name Lydia no doubt honored Jonas
>Partelow's wife Lydia Keyser/Keezer/Kezer, etc., and Tacy no doubt honored

>married Naboth B. Welch and they named two of their daughters Clarissa Tacy
>and Lydia Maria, respectively. Another daughter of Ambrose and Tacy

>
>So far I have found that the three known daughters of Ambrose and Tacy

>
>I have re-ordered LDS film 5888 at the Oakland Family History Center to try

>a number of the cursive double s's that look like "fs" such as in "Bliss"

>
>In 1970, Gertude H. Jones, a descendant of Ambrose and Tacy, a Mormon and
>an historian particularly of American Indians, submitted to her church an
>"Archive Record" showing two generations of descendants of Ambrose and

>children of Naboth B. and Freelove (Tacy) Coats, including their spouses

>
>Miss Jones also submitted detailed individual entries for proxy baptism,

>sealings. On one of the latter entries she identified Ambrose Coats' wife
>as "Lucy Partelow (Church Record), Tacy Partelow (all other records, Bible

>I further note that "The Descendants of Robert Burdick of Rhode Island," by
>Nellie Johnson (1937) identifies, at page 442, Lydia Coats who married Amos
>Burdick as "dau. of Ambrose and Tacy (Partebro (?))."
>
>I also have contemporary deed evidence. In 1820, when Ambrose and Tacy

>Do you know whether Stephen and Elizabeth (Partlow) Colgrove ever lived in

Marna,
Have you checked for your grandmother in the SSDI under her birth and death
dates? I'm assuming she may not have had the Gault surname at death as I
don't find any Gaults born 1926, died 1978, in that index. However, three
"Billies" with those dates are in the SSDI who filed their SS-5s and received
their last benefit in TX: Billie Countz at Weatherford, Billie Turner at Dallas,
and Billie Webb at Fort Worth. Of course, there's no way to tell whether
these are men or women, but look at the SSDI and see if any birth or death
dates match the person you're looking for. The last benefit might indicate place
of death, but ordering the SS-5 from the Social Security Admin. will get you
parents' names.
