Oliver COLEGROVE, "son of Eli, son of Francis," apparently died intestate
before May 1801 (he was alive for the 1800 census). Volume 11 of the "Rhode
Island Genealogical Register," page 300, edited by Alden G. BEAMAN, summarizes
Colegrove transactions in 'Richmond Land Evidence,' Vol. 5, pp. 230-240. The
deeds were executed 19 May 1801 to 3 Mar 1807 but not recorded until Feb 1813.
(That could be a clue to when the widow had died or just a lack of due
diligence on the part of the recorder.):
Widow: Esther [TEFFT].
Children:
Amos with wife Lydia.
Joseph with wife Hannah.
Nathan with wife Polly.
Ruth, spinster.
William of Ri(chmond)/Ho? with wife Susannah.
Desire, wife of John HILL of NY.
Thomas with wife Mary.
Christopher.
Mary, wife of Arnold BARBER of We(sterly).
Esther, wife of Isaac PROSSER of Ch(arlestown?).
Jonathan with wife Fanny.
Browning.
One unmentioned child (to account for each inheritance being equivalent to
1/13 of the estate, presumably Eli married to Mary COON if he belongs with this
family). If Eli had left RI early, he may have received his portion before
his father's death.
Some of the deeds apparently refer to the mother's dower right as an
encumbrance while others do not.
The pages I saw were printed from Family Tree Maker CD215 Vital Records of
Rhode Island; however, some libraries may have hard copies of Alden Beaman's
books.

The "book" does not list Esther or Christopher but appears to have two Marys,
once as Mary, wife of David POTTER, and again as Polly, wife of Arnold
BARBOUR. (Polly was a nickname for Mary in those days.)
Here are the people listed in the will of Eliezar COLEGROVE of "Town Shipp of
Exeter in the County of Kings County and Colony of Rhode Island" signed 17
Jan 1758, proved 11 Apr 1758:
Wife: Elisabeth.
Eldest daughter: Sarah.
Second daughter: Mercy or Marcy.
Third daughter: Elisabeth.
Fourth daughter: Thankful.
Son: Oliver.
Witnesses: John WEAVER, Peter CRANDLE, Parry MUMFORD.
I think this is as close as we'll come to proof that the COLEGROVE book
wrongly shows Eli dying in Queen Anne's War. Instead he was Francis COLEGROVE's
eldest SURVIVING son. The Eleazer listed on page 54 likely is the same man.
I do not know which RI will book the copy I saw came from as it was extracted
by someone else.
