Hi Paul, my name is Brett Colgrove. I am a tenth generation Colgrove. My
line goes to a Francis Colegrove from Whales who came to America when he
was 16 yrs old. There is a book about Francis and his line of relatives
that is just coming out of reprint. If you would like one email Jean
Colgrove Theil at (jjoner(a)bright.net). If you could send me some of your
line I would be willing to see what I could find for you as far as some
people here in America. I was wondering if you could help me find
Francis Colegroves Parents?
Francis was born at or near Swansea in Wales about 1667. Like I
mentioned earlier, he left when he was about i6 yrs old. If you can and
would will you please try to see if you can find anything on Francis?
Thank you
Brett
I had e-mailed to reserve the Colegrove book that is due out this month.
Will we be notified when and where to send checks? Looking forward to it.
Also, a question about Malvina Colegrove, daughter of Eli, Truxton,
NY......She married Barber J. Cardner about 1830, but was married to
Frederick Garner about 1840. I had assumed that Barber J. had died, but I
found him later on with a younger wife and two young daughters. It was 1870
and he was about age 70. They apparently continued to live in nearby towns,
and a Luther Cardner later married Hannah Garner, daughter of Fred and
Malvina. Guess everyone got along. <g> Hannah must have been stepdaughter
of Malvina as she was born in 1820.
This just seemed like a strange situation to me for that time......for these
days not at all unusual. Is there anyone who can shed light on the
situation?? Think the Colegroves were Seventh Day Baptists as well as the
Cardners, and I think the church frowned on divorce. I see in the church
records (forgot the date) where Barber Cardner Sr. was a deacon, but Barber,
Jr. was listed at one time as "rejected". Could there be a connection?
Thanks,
Sydney(feminine version of the name) Cardner
