Asa was indeed a descendant of Francis.
I have Asa's birth date as exactly one year earlier and exactly nine years
later than your date, but these are the same Asa's certainly. At any rate, I
have Asa as the son of John Colegrove -- John was born 21 Jan 1742/43 in
Exeter, Washington Co., RI, and later lived in Dover, Duchess Co., NY -- who
was John's wife (Asa's mother)? John's parents in turn were John born 1699
in Warwick, Kent Co., RI, and Susannah James (daughter of William and Mary
James of Charlestown, Washington Co., RI). This last John was the son of the
immigrant Francis and his wife Anna (not Hannah Bailey who was the wife
instead of Francis's son Francis).
I also show that your Asa was also married to a Susannah, and had several
children by her as well.
Contact me and I can send an electronic file...

On p. 480 of the latest edition of "The History and Genealogy of the
COLEGROVE FAMILY in America," there is Asa COLEGROVE, b. 8 Apr. 1756, d.
1825. He was son of John, son of John, son of Francis. First wife's name
was unknown, but their 7th child was "Amy" who m. "Joseph COONS," so this
sounds like your man. Books says he was farmer at Charleston, Montgomery
Co., NY. His father John COLEGROVE was of Dover, Dutchess Co., NY, and
supposedly was b. 21 Jan 1743 (precocious?or a typo on year). John's father,
also John, b. ca 1699, was "Pioneer & Farmer, of South Kingston, R I, and
then of North East, Dutchess Co., NY.
Based on my lines pride in its R I roots, it wouldn't be surprising if a
person b. elsewhere was rumored by descendants to be of R I.
Great-grandmother was b. in MI of woman b. in NY, yet Grandma's delayed birth
certificate says her mother was b. R I just because of all the talk of
"Colgroves of R I."

If you really look at this, Oliver's family is missing a generation. Thomas
is younger sib of my ancestor Nathan COLEGROVE, b. 1780, lived Cortland Co.,
NY, Wastenaw and Jackson Cos., MI., etc. Ages of family censused with Oliver
in RI in 1774 would indicate multi-generation household, but I haven't been
able to find the probable Oliver, Jr. Is anyone even looking? Colegrove
book would indicate that Oliver, b. 1708, was fathering a child a year while
in his mid 70's. Once again here's the 1774 census info on Oliver:
>From "Census of the Inhabitants of the Colony of Rhode Island and Providence
Plantations," Baltimore, Genealogical Publishing Co., 1969:
COLGROVE, Oliver
Males over 16 = 3.
Males under 16 = 3.
Females over 16 = 2.
Females under 16 = 3.
Household total = 11.
This looks like more than one generation to me.
I posted this info and that for other Colegroves/Colgroves in the book a
couple of years ago, will be glad to do it again if anyone can't locate it in
the list archive.

I may have your Herman Colegrove. I have a Herman born 19 Feb 1872 (the same
year as your Minerva) in Osceola, Tioga Co., PA (the same place as your
Minerva). I do not know who he married or whether he had children.
But I do show that Herman was the son of Willett Stillman Colegrove (born 17
Jan. 1827 in Truxton, Cortland CO., NY) and Catherine Smith. Willett was the
son of Thomas Colegrove (born 22 Feb 1785 in Exeter, RI; died 3 Feb 1854 in
Tioga Co., PA) & Polly Brighten (5 Feb 1791- Dec 1684). Thomas was the son
of Oliver Colegrove and unknown wife. Oliver was the son of Eli Colegrove
(1689-1710) and unknown wife. Eli was the son of the immigrant Francis
Colegrove and his wife Anna, who settled in Warwick, RI, marrying there in
1688.
I have more on the siblings of each of these generations -- I could send you
an electronic file on what I have on the descendants of the immigrant Francis
Colegrove if you like.
My Colegrove ancestors also moved from RI to Cortland Co., NY, after the
Revolution, marrying into my Gibbs line. Also. I believe my line at least
spent a decade in CT en route to upstate NY from RI in the 1790s, so perhaps
yours did also.

I'm researching English COLGROVES and any related families. The earliest
record I can link to my family is Robert Colgrove, born around 1743 in
Buckinghamshire. Most of the family remained here until the 1960s (as far
as I know).
I'd be interested to hear of any other Colgroves that could be linked to my
tree. My research is obviously free to all too.

Murdock was born in S. Troupsburg, NY in 1872. I think that they probably

They were in Eldred by the time her father died in 1926.
Minerva was my grandmother Jennie Murdock Poley's half sister. If I could
find Minerva's death certificate it might tell me who her mother was. i.e.
Edward Palmer Murdock's first wife. I'd also like to know if Herman and
Minerva had any children.
The Murdocks were in the Steuben Co., NY and Tioga, Pa area.
