Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Phil, I have Family Origins and Family TreeMaker, both supported by
GEDCOM. I'll wait to see if you can convert this website to "http".

The address is right. "ftp" is a different protocol than "http" - it could be
that your browser doesn't support ftp..... :-(
Be advised that a GEDCOM file, while technically readable by human beings, is
really intended to be read by computer programs. Unless you have a program like
Reunion or Family Tree Maker, the file will not be very interesting.
I'll see if I can convert a subset of the file into web pages this weekend -
then you can browse them using "http" ...

Phil Muhm placed this website: ftp://ftp.hia.net/muhm/colgrove.ged
I cannot connect to it and was wondering if anyone else is having
problems? Always, when I connect to the internet, I use "http://"
instead of "ftp://" Could this be the problem? If not, Phil, is the
address correct?

Terry Colegrove may be able to use this information and incorporate
it into his homepage. What do you think, Terry? It would be a good
start. This might take some thinking about. If there is some way we
could single out a particular line (for example, my line of course
runs from Francis), at some point during that line I can add
additional information that can be documented. This would "update"
the book with documented information. Also, if there are errors (and
we all know there are), we can make corrections somewhere in a
separate section that will tell of those errors and provide
documentation to prove them. We would not want to make corrections
to the book form itself, but in a separate section.
What do you think? I haven't visited Phil Muhm's site (above) yet,
but will do so within the next few days.
Mary Nell Hodnett
A while back I corresponded with a Colegrove in NJ that I found on the web. He
sent me a GEDCOM file of the descendants of Francis. It looks like it was
entered from "the book" (it seems to have the same errors...). At any rate, it
has about 3300 individuals in it. I used Reunion (Macintosh) to turn it into
web-browsable pages the other night - worked like a charm, but all the files
took up 20 MB, which is more than my ISP lets me post for free..... :-(
The gedcom file is available at: ftp://ftp.hia.net/muhm/colgrove.ged
Feel free to download it, but please let me know. There are a number of errors
along my wife's line that need correcting, and I'd like to get the corrected
version out when I get around to making all the changes....

I have an online genealogy file on what I have on the descendants of Francis
Colegrove of Rhode Island. It can be found at
www.familytreemaker.com/users/g/i/b/James-H-Gibbs/
I will gladly add any other lines which connect to it -- I already have added
some that have come across this mail list. I can read FTW and gedcom files,
or I can be reached at my address below.

I also think it's a good idea to use Colegrove in the subject line.
Yesterday, I went into Yahoo and typed Colegrove as the search word.
There's a ton of information there. At one time I was corresponding
to John Colegrove, who has a wealth of information on the Colgrove
family. John has a great website there. I don't know if John is a
member of our Colegrove listserver or not.
Max, do you want to try to get in touch w/him?
Could we please all use the Colegrove surname in our subject lines! I nearly
deleted Ms. Mary's "volunteer" message without reading as I did not recognize
her screen name, and the subject looked like spam mail (something I delete
without opening).
Kudos to Terry for the web site.
Chris
Max, count me in to help get this ball rolling. I have Word Perfect
6.1 for Windows. Since you are the list owner, will you volunteer to
spearhead this? Let's all put our heads together, pitch in and come
up with the beginning of our first project. Please post your ideas
as to how you feel we should begin.
A good example of Colegroves-Helping-Colegroves is the good work
Terry Colegrove has done on his website. I have been looking for
Jeremiah Colegrove who married Mary Betts for quite some time. It
just so happens that Terry seems to have found him for me.
Terry, will you scratch around and try to come up with the
documentation for these Civil War entries? I am big on
"documentation," as we all should be, and I want to obtain copies for
my files.

Hi Colegrove Researchers,
I am forwarding information I received on OHIO-ROOTS-L. Jeff Thompson sent
it. It's a good site. Enjoy!

Hi Colegrove Researchers,
I like Mary's suggestions. Do we have any volunteers? Does anyone have
any other suggestions? Please review Mary's suggestions and e-mail me if
you would like to help.

In Terry Colegrove's Civil War Forum in his website, is listed:
Jedediah Colegrove, Cpl., b. 02/11/1811; d. 29/7/1882; Served: 40th
KY Mount. Inf. Co. D
Jeremiah Colegrove, Cpl., b. 18/9/1841; Served: 40th KY Mount. Inf.
Co. D
Jeremiah Colegrove; Served: 22nd KY Inf. Co. H
It is possible that Jedediah Colegrove is the brother of my ancestor,
Jeremiah Colegrove who married Mary Betts in Greenup, KY.
Also, since Jeremiah Colegrove, Cpl. served in the same Company as
Jedediah, this could likewise be a relative.
Likewise, the next Jeremiah Colegrove listed also served in KY Inf.
This is interesting.
Terry, please be so kind as to post where you located this
information.

I recently visited Terry Colegrove's website ( http:www.geocities.
com/heartland/hills/5698) in which he has posted much information on
the Colegrove family. If any other Colegrove family members have
websites, please post your address so we can all enjoy them.
Godd work, Terry.

Hello Group: Max Colgrove has asked that I respond with suggestions
as to how our Colegrove/Colgrove group can become more active. I am
a member of another discussion group (Looney/Luna/O'Looney) which is
very active, and will pass along some of the things our group does to
maintain interest of all of group members. Some things we do:
1. One of the family group members is in charge of keeping a list of
all family members, along with their address, telephone number and e-
mail address, and the family line they are researching. This list is
maintained on our family home page.
2. One family group member is in charge of putting together and
maintaining a Looney Family Home Page.
3. Each member submits his/her lineage and it is placed in the
family home page. As new members join our group, they likewise
submit their lineage and the keeper of the home page joins them into
our lineage chart.
4. Members submit typed copies of old letters, wills, real estate
documents, scanned photographs, etc. to our family home page, and
those documents are placed in our family home page.
5. Like the Colegrove Family, we have typed book-form documents from
a researcher way back in the early 1900's or late 1800's. These
documents are invaluable to our research. A group of family members
united and have re-typed these documents in a format that can be
compiled and placed in our family home page for all to research.
This took quite a bit of organizing but is a valuable tool for
everyone on the internet researching our family name. This could
also be done with our Colegrove Family book.
6. Visit some of our sites:
http://members.aol.com/jsully7http://members.aol.com/jsully7/roots/roots.htmhttp://members.aol.com/jsully7/index.html#Homehttp://members.aol.com/jsully7/evidence.htm#Early%20Looney%20Lifehttp://members.aol.com/jsully7/biograph.htm#Biography's
http://members.aol.com/jsully7/loonlinks.html
Also check out the website of one of our members:
http://www.flash.net/~johnsonl/
7. Terry Colegrove has already started typing in some of the book
mentioned above. Terry, if you will get in touch with Larry Johnson
about how he organized the typing of our Looney book, I am sure we
will all volunteer some of our time to help you get the rest of the
Colegrove book on line. Larry's e-mail address can be gotten from
the above website (http://www.flash.net/~johnsonl). (That's a small
"l" at the end of the name and not a "one."
Hopefully, this will give us all some ideas as to how we can become
more active in the Colegrove genealogy. There's not a day that goes
by that I don't have at least 8 messages from a researcher of our
Looney surname.
Everybody, let me know what you think.

Hello all,
Over the last 3-4 years I've been encorporating the book Published
by William Colegrove "The History and genealogy of the Colegrove
Family in America." In the past year I have been working on putting
that information on a web page. Todate I have about 1/5 the persons
listed in the web page. I'm still working on getting the rest of the
book added to the web. If you have any information I can use, and/or
add to what I have please forward it to me and I'll include it. Check
it out and let me know what you think of the page so far.

And, yes, I know there are errors.. :) if you find any please let me
know what the file name is..
example file c0802006.htm
Thanks,
Terry Colegrove
Hi all,
Mary Hodnett told me some great ideas for activating our list. She also
said that Larry Johnson has some good ideas also. I have invited them both
to post there ideas to the list. We should be hearing from them soon. If
any of you can contribute other ideas, please do so.
