I think you will find the Cole family of NS came up from Barnstable Co.,
MA
in the early days of the settlement of Queens Co., NS. I have a number of
cousins who married into the line. I think Israel and Benjamin Cole may
be
the two who came up. I suggest you join the Barnstable Co. List and ask
on
there. Priscilla
I am looking for Cole family. from England ? to Nova Scotia, Canada. I
can't
find any reference of coming direct from England so is possible came
through
US. before 1814. William Cole, some of his descendants went to the US
and
stayed there. Am wondering if anyone is trying to connect back to NS,
Canada. Names were John, James, George, and others. I can't find proof of
the first William's wife. they are my 3rd g grandparents, which isn't all
that far back. perhaps to Vermint, California and Mass, Boston.
If anyone finds a connection I would be eternally grateful.

To Marilyn Wenzel,
I woul love to have any information you have on your John M. COLE b in NC
to see if it is possible have the same ancestor. What county was your John
born in? What is complete birth date? Any siblings, parents, any idea
where john's family came from before NC? I the match looks promising, do
you have any male COLE surname relatives living at this time? If yes I
will recommend to you to have them DNA tested so we can prove or disprove a
relationship. Exciting posibility!! Looking forward to hearing from you.
My data on my John follows:
18 Apr 1774 in North Carolina*2*, and died Abt. 1834 in Lynchberg, Sumter,
South Carolina*3*. He married ACHSAH NEWMAN 1791 in Sumter County, North
Carolina*3 [I strongly am concerned that this data may incorrect since I
have never seen this before. All the other is correct as proved by
me--Jerry Cole. It may be correct, but I suspect it may actually be Sumter
County SC]*, daughter of THOMAS NEWMAN and ELIZABETH NORMAN. She was born
28 Mar 1774 in Sumter, South Carolina*3*, and died 1830 in Sumter, Lee
County, South Carolina*3*.

Subj: Re: [COLE] Tennessee Cole (with New England Connections)
The only book I know of that Redmond Cole published was about the Coles
of
Johnson Co., TN. I have a copy, but I'm not sure if it's readily
available for
purchase. Here's the entry for that book from my Bibliography:
-----------------
Cole, Redmond Selecman; Mary C. Cole, ed. The Coles of Johnson County,
State
of Tennessee. Tulsa, OK: By the editor, 1961–62. The title on the cover
of
this paperbound book says The Story of Captain Jesse Cole of Johnson
County,
Tennessee, His Ancestry and Related Families. Redmond Cole began
compiling
this book, his only published major work, about a year before his death.
In the
Foreword written in February 1958, he said:
“Years have been spent in contacting known descendants of Capt. Jesse
Cole
[(Sampson6, Joseph5, Hugh4, Hugh3, Hugh2, James1)] to acquire essential
facts
concerning this man and his descendants wherever found.... In the very
nature
of things, I have had to rely in many instances, on the facts supplied
by
my
informants. I have, where possible, checked my data against records
found
in
courthouses at Elizabethton, Tenn., and Mountain City, Tenn., and in
some
instances, data gathered from Federal Census records. The data used, I
verily
believe, is substantially an accurate story of the families mentioned.”
After Redmond’s death on 16 July 1959, his wife Mary finished the book.
She
wrote in October 1960:
“This story of Capt. Jesse Cole was the last genealogical work he was
attempting. I had been helping him arrange his material so hope I can
retain enough
of his knowledge to understand his arrangement and proceed with the
records
to save them from being lost, scattered, burned or buried in some hidden
box.
So many members of the family have expressed interest that I feel I
would
be
false to his ideals, if I let the project die. So I will publish the
material I now have on hand, hoping I will not make too many errors.”
----------------------
Actually, three James Cole descendant brothers (sons of Joseph Cole and
Freelove Mason) married three Daniel Cole descendant sisters (daughters
of Israel
Cole III and Remember Burgess), and they all lived in Washington Co.,
VA,
having come from MA via NY.
There are a number of Grindstaff's in the Jesse Cole book's index. I am
interested in contacting any descendants of Joseph and Freelove Cole.
Jim, is Abel F. Cole a descendant of James Cole of Plymouth? I couldn't
easily find him in my records.

A few years ago, a coworker from the Bristol TN area was reading a
book his mother had (History of Johnson County 1986, Sesquicentenial
Edition (Johnson County TN), Johnson County Historical Society, LC #
85-52178.), and thought it very coincidental that there was
significant mention of COLEs with a New England linkage. (I'm a NE
COLE.) Whereas I was just beginning to dabble into genealogy, he was
kind enough to let me review this book and I copied pages and input
much of the information. The info I found indicated that the JAMES of
Plymouth MA line and the DANIEL of Eastham MA line came together when
Sampson COLE (James1, Hugh2, Hugh3, Hugh4, Joseph5) married Kezia COLE
(Daniel1, Israel2, Israel3, Israel4). Sampson had another wife, Lydia
Wheeler, with which he sired Shady Valley TN's most famous prodigal
son, Capt. Jesse Cole.
I have this documented digitally, however this was done, a while
back, before I knew the importance of documenting sources. Some of
the info is from the aforementioned book, the E.B. Cole book on JAMES
of Plymouth, as well as from FIDO-Net BB's I was monitoring at the
time. I also have a pretty extensive GEDCOM given to me by a gent
