Jerry,
Thank you so much for your reply.
Hopefully, one of those people researching in the South will reply as well.
Thanks again!!

Good morning. I've been watching all these messages with interest and
decided to ask...is anyone on here researching Coles from the South? All
these posts seem to be about the Northeastern Coles and I haven't gotten
that far back yet. I'm specifically looking or Coles from South Carolina
who made their way down into Georgia.
William Cole b abt 1816 SC. I'm told his father was James C. Cole b 1784
Newberry, SC died 1847 Paulding County, Ga but have not yet made the
connection.
I'm also researching Rev. John Cole (1736? - 1808) Newberry South Carolina.
Does anyone have any information on these Coles?
Thank you in advance for your help!!

I've enjoyed seeing how active this list is and seeing how some of you are
finding answers to your Cole questions. I sure wish someone could help me,
but apparently my Cole line was dropped off here from some other planet.
I was born with the last name of Cole. My father was Gilbert Cole, born
in Colorado in 1926 (married Arlene Turner). His father was Nelson Goodan
Cole, who was born in 1899 in Colorado (married Hester Roxanna McConnell).
Nelson's father was Levi Nelson Cole, born 1857, possibly in Iowa (married
Lottie Stone, then divorced her and married Cora Lyn Goodan). Levi's
father was Albert J Cole, born 1827 (or not) in Ohio (or not) and who married
Nancy Chamberlain. I know these folks existed because they are buried in
Linn Grove cemetery in Greeley Colorado. And I think I've identified their
children as: Edwin H, Mary E, Levi, James A, Philena, Sarah L, Delilah, and
George.
I don't actually know that Albert had parents, although I suspect that
would be much more likely than the whole 'dropped off from some other planet'
idea.
I'm still a novice genealogist so it could be that I just don't know how to
search. I'll keep plugging along but if any of you spot Albert in your
research will you toss him my way, please?

Bill,
???? My 3GGrandfather John M. COLE was born in NC in 1774, county unknown
and died in Sumter District SC in 1834.? I started the COLE-COLES Surname
DNA Project some time ago after I concluded I may never find the paper trail
for John,s ancestors.? I have over 115 people in the list at this time.?
We have had a number of successes in matching different COLE families.? In
my line we have proven that another COLE line in Darlington SC does have a
common ancestor with my John.? I still have not found my COLEs in NC.? I
have the MD COLEs (some of whom moved to NC) as a good candidate for my line.?
I am very interested in testing all COLE lines in NC between 1700 and
1800.? For this testing we need living, COLE surnamed males who have known
ancestors in NC.? If you have any candidates for testing, please let me know.?
(Also for?any of you others who have COLEs in NC).

The following is what I have I might be missing one of the Abraham Coles but
cannot be sure of that. I finally found the file I was looking for that
connects my 4th great grandfather's wife to her ancestors. In particular I
am looking for members of the Cole line.
My 4th great grandfather (paternal grandmother's line is Lucy Adelia King))
is Amos King (Revolutionary War Veteran) he married Hopestill Hoskins in
1781 New Salem, Hampshire (now Franklin) County (however all the records
show she seems to have spelled the surname (HASKINS)
My 4th great grandmother (paternal grandmothers's line Lucy Adelia King) is
Hopestill is the daughter of William Hoskins jr. IV and Mary Cole. William
appears to have been born in Taunton, Bristol County, Massachusetts. Mary
was probably baptized on 10 May 1719 in either Bristol or Salem,
Massachusetts.
Mary is the daughter of John Cole (Rhode Island - Plymouth Cole's) and Mary
Cole (of the Boston Cole's) I don't know when this Cole line arrived in
Rhode Island however I see from a letter that I received years ago that he
might trace back to John Cole born about 1629 in Sandwich, Kent, England who
died in Wickford, Washington County RI and had as a wife Susannah
Hutchinson daughter of William and Anne (Marbury) Hutchinson. She died in
North Kingston, Washington County, RI.
Mary Cole is the daughter of Thomas baptized March 1690 in Salem and Mercy
(AKA Marcy) (Vealy) Cole. It appears that she was born in Salem, Essex
County, Massachusetts and that her parents were married there as well.
I am showing from the letter that I received that Thomas is probably the son
of Abraham Cole born 6 January 1674 and is the son of Abraham and Sara
(Davis) Cole also of Salem who where married there on 11 June 1670.
These records were gleaned from John Slaughter's MA-Vitalrecords.org and
Familysearch.org.
My Line:
Daniel Lewis Frommherz (Lewis is my grandmother's maiden surname)
Arthur Francis Fromherz Sr. married Winifred Jane Lounsbury
Adolph Joseph Frommherz Sr. married Lucy Adelia King
Abraham Lincoln King married Clara Elisabeth Bussey
Solomon King married widow Annie Mariah Allen King
Nahum Amos King married Sarepta Norton
Amos King married Hopestill Haskins
William Hoskins married Mary Cole
John Cole married Mary Cole
Thomas Cole married Mercy Vealy
Abraham Cole married Sara Davis
At one time I had 2 files for both Cole lines but I cannot find them again
and it has been about 6 years since I looked for them.
Daniel
Folks my files seem to have up and gone with the wind so I am basically starting over with part of my research. Some time ago I discovered that I had in my 4th great grandfather's line his wife's family. William Hoskins had married Mary Cole. As I remember it Mary was the daughter of John Cole (Rhode Island branch from Plymouth) and Mary Cole (Boston Branch) I am only estimating that their birth years were about 1682 can anyone help me with this family?
Daniel
Swansea, Massachusetts and Providence, Rhode Island are 15 miles from each other.

Folks about 10 years ago the Cole list was really active and I was able to
find both Cole lines for a married couple. The husband was John Cole from
the Plymouth to Rhode Island line and he had married a Mary Cole who is
possibly from the Boston area. The LDS church had her listed as only Mrs.
Mary Cole indicating that they thought that Cole was not her maiden surname.
I proved with your help that he had indeed married Mary whose maiden surname
was Cole. All that info is on my old Windows 95 computer that sits across
the room with no wires or screen I think since I cannot find it on either of
my newer XP computers. So John and Mary have a daughter named Mary Cole who
married William Hoskins son of William and Abigail (Hoar) Hoskins. the
eldest daughter of William and Mary (Cole) was Hopestill Haskins (surname
spelling changed) who marrried Amos King of New Salem, Hampshire County,
Massachusetts. The removed about 1785 to Lebanon Springs, Columbia County,
New York where they had 6 children before her death and Amos remarried there
where his second wife and he had 9 children. Can anyone shed some light on
either of these two Cole lines?
Daniel
I do have a few Teets . . . Andrew, Benjamin, Edward, Martha and
Samuel. Are these yours?

Does anyone know how large Swansea was in the 16 and 1700'? I wonder because
I had Gibbs family and Terry and Mason and Cole all from there. If it was a
small town they probably didn't have a lot of choose to choose from.

Since my earlier response concerning Barnard/Barnett Cole was way off, I
thought I'd better correct it so that it ends up in the archives to correct
my earlier post.
Barnard Cole was born at Swansea, Mass. 11 Feb. 1723/4 <VR:46>, the son of
Nathaniel4 Cole Jr. (Nathaniel3, John2, James1) and Sarah Thomas. Nathaniel4
and Sarah were married at Swansea 10 Oct. 1721. <VR:197>
Barnett Cole married at Rehoboth, 14 Aug. 1742, Mehetabel Wheeler <Rehoboth
VR:442>. Barnard Cole died at Rehoboth before 4 August 1761when his widow
administered his estate <Bristol Co.PR 18:78-9>.
