Hello, I saw on the Cole rootsweb that some on was looking for Coles in
Nebraska. My family was from Ansley and Mason City, in Custer County and Miller, in Buffalo Co.
My Grandfather was John Daniel Cole, my GGrandfather was Thomas Westly Cole. They
were married into the Himmelright family from the same place. I have quite a bit of info
but always looking for more and conformation on details.
Any info and or information will be helpfull.
Ivan
Scott, I can assure you that I've been posting more in the last two
months than in several years. Were you not getting my posts?

My maternal great-grandparents were Frank R. Cole b. Elmira NY in 1848 and Sarah J. Simmons b. Albany, NY in 1852. They married in Waterloo (Seneca Co.) in 1871 and had 7 children in NY and MI. Purely by accident, I recently came across their divorce papers from 1909 in Saginaw, MI. My grandfather, James, was listed as one of three surviving brothers....Robert and Frederick were the other two listed. I believe both Frank remarried (to a Hatfield) and Sarah (to a Brown) and remained in Saginaw. I am still looking for their dod’s.

I have a William Cole in my line born 1829, a brother Thomas born 1832 to
parents Thomas abt. 1791 and Kity? abt. 1801 (unable to read name). All born
in Ireland somewhere, emigrated to England prior to 1851 and William
emigrated to the USA prior to 1855 when he married Lydia Chauncey in
Brooklyn. NY. Thomas arrived a year later. William fought in the Civil War.
William has been my brick wall as far as place of birth. If anyone has this
person in their line please contact me.

Still not clear if I can reply to this e-mail.
I continue to look for information about my great-grandfather, Cornelius Cole -- b. circa 1832, Kentucky or Indiana. Other locations after about 1865: Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida.

OK! Here's a bit more traffic:
Does anyone have evidence of the birth or parentage of John Cole, Sr.
who married Elizabeth Elwell in Biddeford, Maine in 1757, lived in
Narraganset Township No. 1 (later Buxton), Maine, and served in the

?
The following is not my line but some?Coles I had listed which seem to fit yours. I often find that folks, who may be?different each census,?do not remember what ages or dates, or even their own names, they give from census to census, so there tend to be discrepancies in dates of birth?as well as enumerator or ?transcription errors.??Sometimes, I?review similar first names in the same area because they may be related, such as the first two sets also from New York:
?
1860 Census: --Clinton Cole, age 2,?Turin, Lewis NY ; father is Madison Cole, 25, mother Eliza Cole, 26. Farmer
?
1870 Census: --?Clinton Cole, b. abt. 1856, 14, LeRay(?) ?Jefferson, NY. P.O. Philadelphia; father is Chauncey Cole,, 57; mother is Esther Cole, 55. Farmer
?
1880?Census: --Clinton C. Cole, b. abt 1856, age 24, ?Watertown, Jefferson, NY, wife is Idah Cole, 22, daughter Mertie; Bricklayer
?
1900 Census: --Clinton C. Cole, age 42 wife Julia J. Cole (discrepancy with 1880). age 41, married 24 years; Children: Clinton E, 15; Harry R. 10; Roth (Ruth)?E., 9; Mary S. 5; Jarmes R. 41 (discrepancy in age ?) Carpenter. [Was Myrtle also Mertie and had left the household before 1900?]

I am actually researching three Cole lines. 1) James Cole from Devonshire Eng to Plymouth, down through his line to Sampson Cole who married Keziah Cole who was a descendant of 2) Daniel Cole who came from England to Eastham, Barnstaple, Mass. Forward their descendants traveled from Mass to VA to TN to AR to IL to TX and beyond. And then recently in researching my granddaughter's father's line, picked up a third line - 3) the Kool/Cool line from Amersterdam, Netherlands and played a pretty good role in settling New Amsterham, NY. The name gradually changed from Kool to Cool to Cole (her line ended up in Nebraska).

Hello Cole list - I thought the list was 'defunk' ... is that a word???
Anyway, glad to see activity again.
Msaban-do you have much info on your third line of Coles (Kool, Cool)? My
g-g-g grandfather Harvey Cole (1791-1863) m. Nancy Taylor (1788-1866) and so
far everything shows Greene County, Cairo (and Durham), New York. I'm
looking for Harvey's parents. One note I found indicated this line of Coles
was from Holland. I have much info from Harvey and later but can find
nothing on his parents.
Thanks, Linda

Since we're discussing John Cole, let me toss in my Cole ancestor....
My 5th great-grandfather was John Cole born 18 April 1744, Massachusetts. The 1790 Federal census shows him settled in Windsor, Berkshire Co. Massachusetts. It it possible that he was born in Berkshire Co. He died 9 July 1817, Gorham, Ontario Co. New York. My line descending from his son Jonathan, born 3 September 1768, Berkshire Co, Massachusetts, died 8 August 1828, Gorham, Ontario Co. New York. Spouse: Mary Ann ( called Polly) Brewer.
Any connection? Anybody?
Joanne Mack, Salem, Oregon...where it's snowing in the Willamette Valley. In March!

Hi - I have developed information that my great great grandfather,
Jacob Cole was a descendant several generations, the earliest of
which used the surname "Cool" and many married into families with
Dutch surnames. Jacob Cole was born about 1774. He was in Junius,
Seneca Co. NY in 1820. This line ended up in Iowa. Could this be the
same Cool line as the one you mentioned?

All groups get hit with spam occasionally. This is no big thing.

I do agree with you that the post below was inappropriate. And yes, there is an administrator for the list. Give him/her some time. It may be a matter of vacation, illness or whatever. Every administrator is a volunteer and does not sit on the list 24/7. Rather than unsubscribing, please write the administrator at Cole-admin(a)rootsweb.com and express your concerns. I am sure it will be taken care of as soon as that person can.
