Oh fiddle. Here I thought I was presenting all you needed to figure out the question and I didn't put the years. I'm sorry.
1. Year 1900. SD5, ED 122, Sheed 9A, Stamped 216, Line 32 in Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri. What was John G. Cole's occupation? It looks like St. R. Commissioner Merchant but I haven't been able to figure that out.
2. Year 1920. SD 5, ED 147, Sheet 4B, Line 57 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. What are Hugh and Lloyd's jobs? Hugh is I believe a clerk but of what?
3. Year 1920. SD 10, ED 13, Sheet 1A, Stamped 99, Line 26 in Marshall, Clark County, Illinois. What is John Emery Cole's job? Its seems like something to do with a restaurant but I can't figure out what.
4.Year 1910. SD 8, ED 122?, Sheet 7B, Line 62 in Washington Township, Taylor County, Iowa. What is this young man's name? In the 1900 census, he was identified as Virt. I don't like that one either. What do you think his name is?
5. Finally, Year1910. SD 7, ED 74,Sheet 6B, Line 74, Dwelling 152, Family 188, in Findlay, Hancock County, Ohio. What was Sarah's last name and what was her relationship? Is she a maternal aunt? And where does Marion work?
Thanks for your help.

Brian,
What year are these census??? What State or States ?
---
They do not always give the name of -what-
1 . Commissioner Merchant
Could be a Grocery Store, A Dress Shop (smile)
A Dry Goods Store.
---
2. Clerk -the same as above
---
4. Virt perhaps a nick name
---
5. What was Sarah's last name and what was her
relationship? Is she a maternal aunt
--
Since it did not have a last name for Sarah, she is more than
likely a aunt of his father. If she had a different name other
than the Head of the Household it would have been there.

This has probably been answered by now however my browser opens
alphabetically. Have you tried the Community directory of persons in those
cities? I found the occupations of everyone in the home that I was
searching for. When my first great grandmother's brother was a clerk in the
1900 US Census I found that he was "clerking" in a law office. His brother
then living at home was listed as a "Painter" turns out he painted homes.
Their sister Agnes was "teaching" the directory for the city gave Primary
Grade.
So the city directory is your best bet. There is a wealth of information to
be found in these books much like the phone book with additions probably the
precursor to the Yellow Pages. They even gave the physical address and
cross streets.
