I was researching the 1870 census on Heritage Quest. I was looking for two
kids that weren't on the census for their parents. I found a Martha Cole
that seem to fit the age but I couldn't be sure because I couldn't read the copy
of the census I was using.
I don't know if Ancestry.com uses a different copy. However, I would
appreciate another pair of eyes looking at this entry. In Ohio, Ashland County,
Green Township, at the Perrysville PO, Page 11, Stamped 595, Line 17, Dwelling
84, Family 88. Who is the woman who is taking care of Isaac, James A., and
Martha Cole, age 3.

It says Nancy McKinley, age 46, on the summary of that census page. It
lists Martha as C Martha Cole, but that's a mistake because of the cursive
"M" merging with the capital "J" on the line above. Only Martha has the
surname of Cole. Sometimes, it will note that a member of the household is
a foster child or someone not directly related to the head of house, but in
this instance it says nothing, not even the relation ship -- only female and
age (3).
Happy to help.

My ggg-grandfather was David Cole, who came Missouri from Fayette Co.,
Kentucky, in 1798.

Joseph W. Cole enlisted in the Union Army on May 19, 1861, at Leavenworth,
Kansas. He was in Co. G of the 1st Kansas Volunteer Infantry Regiment.
I do not know anything about his family. I am curious to see if he is
connected to my Coles from Franklin County, MO.

I'm looking for information on Joseph W. COLE. He was in the Union Army
during the Civil War. In 1861, he was executed in Missouri for killing a fellow
soldier during a fight, becoming the first Union soldier executed during the
war.

This is in answer to Judith Cole's query about how any Coles had taken the DNA testing. I personally don't know exactly how many, but I can tell you this. I had my brother Robert Cole do it for me, as I am female. He has made several matches on FamilyTreeDNA.com. The Cole project is organized, and the administrator is Jerry Cole and his brother Randy. They are very helpful. The higher the DNA marker testing, the closer the match. My brother started out with the 12 marker, and is now at 37. He matched with 2 individuals at all 3 levels. So we know there has to be a tie somewhere. So far we have not found it, but are still looking.

Is anyone here related to Samuel Cole of Holsworthy, Devon England who immigrated to St. Thomas, Elgin, Ontario, Canada in 1843 with his wife, children and their families? Samuel is buried in St. Thomas. His son, Matthew Oliver Cole moved to Springfield, Missouri and is buried there, and Matthew Oliver's son, Wilson Taylor Cole moved to Minnesota....a number of Wilson Taylor's children moved to California.

The Y-Results page is updated with results automatically by Family
Tree DNA when new results come in. It's up to the admin to organize
and group the matching participants into family lines and indicate who
the Most Distant Ancestor is so anyone looking at the page can see
what lines have been tested.
I don't think we need any administrator to update or organize anything for
us. We who have submitted our saliva are the ones who have the all the
necessary information on our family trees to be able to understand the
relationships. The R1b administrator doesn't have a clue as to my I1 background. We are
grateful that someone took the initiative to organize a surname project. We can
take it from there. The automatic updating by FTDNA is all that is
necessary.

That is not true. A number of recently tested Coles in the I1 haplogroup
have been added this year as their results have become available.

I noticed a bunch of Coles are being tested at ancestry.com now, but
there is no Cole project there. Hopefully someone will start a
project and organize them.

I can find no mention of such a bargain on their web page < www.
familytreedna.com >. Do you have more info?
Bob Fetters, who wants to support a FROST Cousin in Y-DNA testing.
